First off, did HBK wrestle at all between RR 98 and WM14?

I like to speculate about stuff that "could" have happened. If Shawn hadn't injured his back in the casket match against Taker, what do you think he would have done in 1998? Austin was obviously in line for his big title run, and Foley, Taker, and Kane were programmed in as the challengers for a while. Maybe HHH turning on him and they would have had that feud back then? What do you think?

I don't remember himwrestling in between. There might have been a houseshow or a tag match on Raw but i doubt it.

No, he didn't wrestle between RR and WM.

He probably would have feuded with HHH because, if you remember, after WM, HHH declared himself the leader of DX due to Michaels dropping the ball.

I'm pretty sure he didn't because of his fucked up back. All he did was talk shit to Austin from what I can remember.

Oh yeah...you had to love how they kept who DX's partner was going to be a "surprise" during the show, and then it ended up being Savio Vega. Could they have picked someone any lamer?

Simply put.....NO.

Yeah. They should have just announced Savio instead of hyping it throughout the show, if they couldn't come up with anyone else good. Can't really think of anybody who they could have used, since the only other major heel was Kane, who they obviously didn't want to use.

Speaking of Savio...were the Boriquas dead by then? And who was the guy in the group that had more hair than your average bear?

And, getting back on topic, was it pretty well known that HBK wouldn't be wrestling anytime soon, and that they didn't want to take the belt off him and ruin their main event so he just decided to tough it out through one last match?

The hairy guy would be Miguel Perez Jr. while the Broicuas were together for the WMXIV Battle Royal.

The cheap way to make the 8-man tag better was to have taken out a babyface during the show, for example, like Austin at SSeries 99. Sure it's a lame ass bait and switch (minus a switch), but a 6 man of big names is better than an 8 man with SAVIO VEGA in the main event.

Or they coulda put Farooq, I forgot the NWOOT card. (No Way Out of Texas was the 1998 version name for some odd reason although for a few weeks just NWO.)

Interesting note - While Shawn did not wrestle after the Rumble and before WrestleMania, he did get physical on Raw from time to time. In one incident, he hit the superkick (I believe it was on Austin) to close out a broadcast. Immediately after the show, he had to receive a cortizone shot in the back due to all the pain he was in ... just from hitting the superkick.

Two quick answers.

1) They changed it to No Way Out of Texas because the nWo storyline was going on and it was not a good decision to have NWO as an acronym.

2) Kane couldn't have been in the 8 man because he was facing Vader that night (that night Kane hit Vader in the head with a wrench after the match, setting up Over the Edge 1998's mask v mask match that Vader also lost). Faarooq was involved in a 10-man "War of Attrition" with the NOD against a team led by Ken Shamrock.

so they had TWO ten man tags that night?

Wow. Talk about laziness.

It was that, coupled with the fact that the previous month's WCW magazine had "No Way Out" on the cover.

I believe Shawn would have wound up taking a break anyways as he had to be burnt out...

Likely HHH still would have taken over DX and they would have been a tweener group instead of the full assualt faces they were...

Likely Shawn would have returned around SummerSlam and gone back to his Face roots as HHH would have been turned Heel...

Likely, Rock never drops the IC Title to HHH and that means Shamrock likely would have "finally" gotten that victory at SummerSlam...

A feud with HHH likely would have been along the same lines as what we wound up getting five years later anyways...
