I woudl assume the AP got that figure from somewhere and not out of thin air. I don't think Dean has a shot, but he could still stage a small comeback. I lost my interest in him after all the lying about his money coming from "regular people" who just sent him a $25 check. You're absolutely right, it's not the most reputable source. However, the fact that it happened isn't being disputed as much as who was responsible for it. Trippi thought it was Kerry, and I concur (after the bin Laden ad bought out by a 527 being run by "former" Kerry aides, I've come to expect this from Kerry's camp). Does he get ALL of his money from grandmas and little kids giving their lunch money? No, of course not. Neither do Kerry, Edwards, Clark, or Bush, for that matter. It's his pollster, Paul Maslin, who not only has bleak news out of Iowa -- but bleak news out of New Hampshire. Trippi hangs up and stares out the window. His phone rings again. "WHAT? Aw, fuck. I hate this business. This fucking sucks. Okay, thanks." He hangs up. "They're robocalling our ones," he moans. "He has just gotten a report from the field that Dean "ones" are getting bombarded with computer-generated phone calls telling them to make sure to caucus for Dean-then giving them the wrong address." Who would do such a thing? "Kerry," Trippi snaps. "They're the only asshole snake campaign that would do it. Every frickin' day now, I'm reminded of why I got out of this in the first place." A third Iowan, Dick Peterson, told ABCNEWS he received a phone call about two weeks ago from an organization claiming to be a polling firm unaffiliated with any candidate, in which pro-Kerry and anti-Dean information was conveyed. The Alexander call, should it have happened, would meet the definition of a "push poll" — a call purportedly from an objective polling firm that actually seeks to "push" voters away from candidates by spreading negative information about them. The Kerry campaign insists it is not using any anti-Dean scripts. "Not in a million years," said campaign spokesman David Wade. At the end of any election, many campaigns are eager to both make such calls and accuse others of doing so, casting them as engaging in dirty tricks to energize their supporters and to turn swing voters off on their rivals. During the 2000 GOP primaries, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., charged then-Gov. George W. Bush with making "push call" phone calls against him. His campaign soon retaliated with recorded anti-Bush calls to Michigan voters that did not disclose their affiliation. Yes, but he says that his CONTRIBUTORS are people that have only sent in a small amount. He does get a lot of small donations, but not from different indivduals. However, as I said before, I've seen a pattern of this shit and it usually leads back to Kerry. The first example was the 527 and the latest is this push-polling, which reportedly is also going on in SC and NM. Kerry's original campaign manager, Chris Lehane (who now works for Clark) was known as an incredibly dirty campaigner (he also consulted for Gray Davis).
