Star Wars Ep. III To Feature Longest Fight In Film

Star Wars Ep. III To Feature Longest Fight In Film History?

Star Wars Episode III stunt coordinator Nick Gillard recently told Times Magazine that Episode III will feature a duel sequence between Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi that will clock in at 12 minutes. That time would make it the longest duel in film history.

"In the next film, Ewan [McGregor] has more than 1,000 moves, which are more complicated to learn than dialogue. The climactic fight scene is, at 12 minutes, the longest fight scene in cinema history," Gillard says.

The dialogue will still sound like crab people androids trying to discuss politics. Longest duel? Big deal the Matrix had better fight scenes overall.

That's pretty cool news. I downloaded some footage of Ep. III the other day, and the few parts that I did see looked pretty sweet, ie., Anakin looking more and more like Darth Vader, them going over (what I guess) is the fight scene mentioned here, and some clips of Chewie.

How are they going to explain Anakin turning into Darth Vader? Did Obi-Wan Kenobi do some Force-Fu on Anakin causing his chi to implode or what?

Great, 12 minutes of wire fu mixed in with ultra CGI.

I like the old Jedi fights from the first three better. Much more of a samuarai/knight feel of honor to it.

This new fighting just seems like the Jedi are taunting each other and it ruins the sense I thought the "Jedi code" had.

If they slow it down and treat it as a showdown rather than a one upmanship battle then maybe I'll find it entertaining.

So far I have yet to find one battle entertaining in this new series.

How many times will Samuel Jackson say "muthafucker" before he dies?

Depends, if they let him go he might say it 30. That's the REAL goal I have for the film, Samuel L setting the number of times saying "muthafucker" in a film record.

If Sam Jackson doesn't say mutha fucka in this movie, I'm walking out.

I'M KIDDING.

I think the Obi/Ani battle will be a bit more of one upsmanship because they probably know each other's moves and how the other thinks.

What better fights are you talking about? The DragonBall Z rip-off on Matrix Revolutions? People were CHEERING in the theaters with the Yoda/Dooku lightsaber duel, and that's just one example. Nobody I've talked to was impressed with any fight scenes on the Matrix except for the first one.

What the hell are you talking about? Do you know anything about the Star Wars story?

From what I remember in the first three, Obi-Wan COMPLETELY schooled Anakin, forcing him to wear the body suit as life support. Finally I can see it in action.

No...I liked the Star Wars scenes better and thought the Matrix sucked.

Would someone be able to tell me how long that fight scene starring Piper in "They Live" was?

You know, the one that was the inspiration for the cripple fight in southpark?

I think Ep III and this duel have the potential to really be the emotional focal point for all of Star Wars. Because, at the end of the day, the fall of the Empire and the rise of the Republic were just mirrors for the fall and redemption of Anakin Skywalker.

The dialogue sucked because Lucas wrote it and I don't think that Lucas is writing most of the dialogue for episode III. I remember reading that somewhere.

I just prefer the wire-fu of Matrix, in particular the fight scene with the twins on the highway and yes I did like the DBZ inspired fight scene more than the CGI Joda fight. Matrix is better just for the fact that it had god himself direct the fights.........Yuen Woo Ping.

Well I am not a big enough fan of Star Wars to follow all of the novels and comic book storylines. But I guessing that the master Obi nearly killed Ani in a fight because he turned to the darkside.

So what are the longest fight scenes in film history? What about the Bruce Lee movies?

I imagine Dragonball Z must be up there for longest fight scene. If you're not allowed to count TV I imagine the movies must have had some awful long fights too.

What about Hogan vs Zeus in No Holds Barred?

I don't think the DBZ movies count.....I think they're talking live action here....and probably Hollywood movies........plus if you count the stop and go's in DBZ movie fights.......well then it's a bunch of little fights.

I had friends tell me how great the Yoda fight scene was.

Then I saw it.

Anyone who cheered at that is either a) insane or b) very, very, VERY easily entertained.

As in, "fascinated with bright, shiny objects" entertained.

It was *okay*. Absolutely NOTHING to write home about, though.

What about that long fight in Kill Bill? Where The Bride took on the Crazy 88's?

or are they just talking about 1 on 1 fight?

Uma vs the yakuza is not a duel. Uma vs Lucy Lui is.

I think it's just a mark out reaction from hardcore Star Wars fans to finally see Yoda "fight"*. Even I was marking out for it. That and Anakin fighting with two lightsabers at once.

*I put that in quotations because of the computer animation of course makes it not as great.

The Yoda fight was hilarious because of how pathetically stupid it looked to watch a frog jump around with a lightsaber. It looked like something BUD beer comes up for as a Super Bowl commercial.

And the Kill Bill fights, the one on one with Uma vs Lui was perfectly how I like it. Slow moments where they would sum up the battle, gave it more of an emotional impact. The Jedi fights in the first three were the same way and that's why I liked them.

The last three..they just looked like they were just charging at each other with their eyes closed and swinging like crazy. No emotional impact.

Old school fights may be slower, but damn if they don't feel like they mean more than this wire-fu charge bs.

that's why I actually liked the Anakin/Dooku duel, nothing too spectacular and I liked the lighting effect with them fighting in the darkness with only the light of their sabers, reminded me a lot of Luke/Vader 2...i just said REMINDED me, i didn't say it was as good (had to say that before you people went apeshit on me)...

The wire-fu style is an exaggeration as if they fighters were super human. The slower style is more of a samuria method of every move meaning something rather than just random blocks and counters. The Yoda fight was just a CGI cartoon jumping around.
