Guest webmasterofwrestlegame Posted February 1, 2004 Report Posted February 1, 2004 Given that HBK may be involved with Benoit/HHH in some way at WMXX regarding the World Title (and as much as it may ruin the Benoit singles title match we all wanted it does make sense from a storyline perspective), could they be setting us up for a WMX re-run? Benoit vs. HBK opening the show with the winner taking on HHH for the World Title later on in the show? I'd have Benoit beat HBK to earn the shot, and then it leaves them a good excuse for HHH going over when he meets Benoit (i.e. Benoit tired, already wrestled etc.) before setting up a 'proper' one-on-one match at Backlash where Benoit goes over. Sound feasible?
Fökai Posted February 1, 2004 Report Posted February 1, 2004 Actually, it's the other way around. HHH, being the champ, would face HBK/Benoit at the beginning of the night, then face the other in the main event. If Michaels or Benoit needs a side match to equal Bret's night from Wrestlemania X, set that up soon (someone being jealous of Benoit?)
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin Posted February 1, 2004 Report Posted February 1, 2004 It's a possiblity and one that I'd prefer over a triple threat. And for more parallels they should do Benoit/Jericho as the opener.
Guest OSIcon Posted February 1, 2004 Report Posted February 1, 2004 If they are going to pay tribute to WMX in some way, this scenario sounds a lot better than the proposed ladder match. The could add someone in for Michaels or Benoit to ace first, but it would also work fine (and would probably be more logical) to vary it up from WMX a bit by not having Benoit wrestle twice. Logically, Benoit and Michaels should not be on the same level since Benoit earned his title shot through winning the Rumble and Michaels didn't. It would make more sense to have Michaels/Triple H early in the evening with the winner wrestling Benoit in the main event. It probably won't happen, but it is an interesting a idea and certainly a lot better than the rumored three way.
Guest Choken One Posted February 1, 2004 Report Posted February 1, 2004 but that kind of renders Jericho useless and makes him kind of a placeholder... What about Ric Flair?
Guest ManKinnd Posted February 1, 2004 Report Posted February 1, 2004 If we got another HHH/HBK classic (they'd have to absolutely bust their asses again), a Benoit/Flair meeting, then Benoit beating HHH for the title, this could be in contention for the best 'Mania EVER.
Guest Choken One Posted February 1, 2004 Report Posted February 1, 2004 I still expect WWE to just Have HBK/Benoit and the winner (Benoit) to win over HHH... I'd be perfectly happy with that although IT SHOULD be HBK/HHH first then winner Faces Benoit but that Makes Benoit look weak if he wins so he'll have to wrestle Flair or Batistia (someone that can pose a threat to Benoit's quest and that isn't being used, which eliminates Jericho since they appear to be building to X/Jericho)...
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin Posted February 1, 2004 Report Posted February 1, 2004 Choken I'll take Jericho as a placeholder in a **** match with Benoit over a suckfest with X.
Guest Choken One Posted February 1, 2004 Report Posted February 1, 2004 But it goes against everything they have done with Jericho... He's been built as a Face and is slowly breaking up with X for the past 6 months and he is getting STRONG reactions once again, although not QUITE at 2001 levels just yet... I just don't think he should be jerked right back to heeldom in a match where he is pretty much considered the loser since Benoit will advance to win the title later that night...Unless they were to add a Stipulation where if Jericho wins, He gets Benoit's slot instead but even that wouldn't work because no one would buy it... I'd rather Jericho wrestle in a match that has a purpose as opposed to being thrown in as a proverbial sacrifice...and I don't think Jericho/X will be that bad anyways and there is always a possibility they could go with my Matt/X Vs Jericho/Mystery Man (Edge) tag title scenario...
Guest reshad974 Posted February 1, 2004 Report Posted February 1, 2004 Chris Benoit must face TripleH in the main event (last match) of WM XX. Any other alternative scenario (including HBK involved in any way, shape or form) should be considered. Period!
Guest Choken One Posted February 1, 2004 Report Posted February 1, 2004 I really could care less who faces Benoit in the final Match... I just hope they find a way to give us Shawn/Benoit one way other at some point...Hell they might as well Have Bret return for a "special" award at Mania and then have him Ref SHAWN/BENOIT in EDMONTON!.
Michrome Posted February 1, 2004 Report Posted February 1, 2004 Given Shawn's track record of matches with guys smaller than him, I don't think Benoit-HBK is going to come close to what a lot of us have in mind.
Guest Choken One Posted February 1, 2004 Report Posted February 1, 2004 Apprently someone never watched the **** affairs Shawn had with Owen... They wrestled **** matches on the House Show Circuit and hit **** on PPV as well... I can't think of ANYONE else shawn has faced that was smaller...and meant something...
Enigma Posted February 1, 2004 Report Posted February 1, 2004 Benoit/Flair ---> HHH/HBK ---> Benoit/HHH

His "Dream Match" with Rob Van Dam was quite forgettable. RVD is still bigger then Shawn... Benoit is JUST barely smaller then Shawn...barely. The only guy shorter then Benoit that means something is...EDDY. That match would just rule the school...HBK/Eddy... Eddy reminds me of Owen at his ultimate heel character and Shawn/Owen rocked it... Shawn/Eddy would be better then Shawn/Benoit
JN News Posted February 2, 2004 Report Posted February 2, 2004 If they wanna re-inact the Wrestlemania 10 senario at Wrestlemania 20, here's what I would have happen. I would book 2 World Heavyweight Title matches. Benoit vs. Jericho----opening match=Jericho wins in order to pay tribute to Owen's victory over Bret at WM 10. HHH vs. HBK=HHH wins clean. Benoit vs. HHH=Benoit wins the title clean.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted February 2, 2004 Report Posted February 2, 2004 That finish would go nicely with the rumor that Jericho would be equally pushed with Benoit behind Michaels.
Guest wildpegasus Posted February 2, 2004 Report Posted February 2, 2004 That finish would go nicely with the rumor that Jericho would be equally pushed with Benoit behind Michaels. I didn't hear this rumor. Do you know where it comes from?
bradolson Posted February 2, 2004 Report Posted February 2, 2004 from 411: Change In Plans For Benoit/Triple H WMXX Match Posted By Ashish on 02.02.04 HBK sticks his nose in... The plan now for the WrestleMania XX World Title match is to have a three way involving Triple H, Chris Benoit, and Shawn Michaels. It was originally thought that Triple H and Benoit would go one on one for the title. Credit: PWInsider.com
Guest Repo Man Reborn Posted February 2, 2004 Report Posted February 2, 2004 Benoit is too green. He's just not ready. I say put him in the curtain-jerker and let him prove himself against Scotty Too Hotty. He can go over by cheating. And then give me HBK-HHH in a 40 minute classic with blading, intereference, false finishes, sledgehammers, McMahons, tables, ladders and chairs. They don't need it, but it would be nice for a change to see Triple H in a gimmicked match.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted February 2, 2004 Report Posted February 2, 2004 Wildpegasus: It was posted on a news site a long time ago. I cant find the news anymore but basically they were just saying that Benoit was chosen over Cena to go to Raw so Michaels would still be the number 1 face, then Jericho and Benoit pushed equally in the number 2 slot.
