Hilarious no-selling at SummerSlam'98

Recommended Posts

It's nothing to discuss I guess but I just thought I'd share a laugh here.

I just watched the Rock/HHH ladder match from SummerSlam'98 for the first time since I first saw it and my feeling right after the match (that still impressed me btw) was quite different this time as I noticed something I didn't see back then.

While Hunter sits/lays on top of the ladder DX comes in to celebrate and X-Pac climbs the ladder and starts patting Hunter on his thigh in what looks like a combination of "way-to-go-Hunter" and "I'm right here, man".

Anyway Hunter totally no-sells it (being exhausted I suppose) and after an (admittedly short) awkward moment of nothing X-Pac just starts pumping with his arms letting out a big "YEAH!" or something like that.

It's such a small thing of course, but it really cracked me up as it made X-Pac look so unimportant.

I don't like him, but I still think it would be awesome if he was a surprise enemy for a face. Imagine the heat as soon as his annoying music started up. That would be insane.

What music?

His themes after becoming X-Pac have been:

DX Theme

X-Pac-ized DX Theme.

Wussy X-Factor Theme

X-Factor Theme 2 (the non-Uncle Kracker one)

nWo Theme

Imagine...

---

Paul Heyman: "Eddie Guerrero, I am SICK of you! (yadda yadda) I have found your NEXT opponent against whom you'll defend your WWE title on Paul Heyman's Smackdown, and here - he - comes!"

"YO, YOU DEALIN' WIT THE X-FACTOR!..."

Now imagine the TSM board's reaction to that on the OAO SmackDown thread. 30 to 40 straight responses of "Ahhh fuck no...."

That actually would've been a hell of a match if it was pre-surgery Sean Waltman. Anyway, I need to go back and watch that tape. I know I have the show on tape somewhere, because it was the first PPV I ever ordered myself after seeing the shows for years at various friends' homes or on tape.

Eddy/Syxx had a nifty little Ladder Match in WCW and another solid straight up match as well...

I'll be the first to agree that a motivated and healthy X-Pac can be tremendous. But that's the thing, he hasn't been for years.

The Eddie/Syxx ladder match deservedly went down as one of the worst in history. They completely messed up everything. I know there's some story about why going around, and I don't know the details, but I remember it being interesting.

I thought Syxx Pac has had some nice matches in TNA, though I'll admit that I only saw two of them... and enjoyed them both.

First one was his X title defense against AJ Styles (ended in DQ) and the other was when he teamed with Styles against Sting and Jarrett.

I also have an X-Pac vs Eddie Guerrero match on tape from Spring 2001. I'm pretty sure it was Guerrero's last tv match before being released. It's quite good too.

I just saw it for the first time and apart from an awkward sequense in the beginning it looked fine to me. I thought it was a pretty good match.

Bischoff and DiBiase as commentators were completely awful though. They managed to take a lot away from my viewing pleasure.

Still, the best Sean Waltman with ladders moment will always be the SummerSlam'98 no-sell that this thread started with. :D
