BoboBrazil Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 -There were some rumors that TNA was looking to put a group of former WWE wrestlers together for some sort of faction. With Brian "Spanky" Kendrick and Zach Gowen now free agents, they might be part of such a group that would debut before the April three-hour PPV (which still hasn't been officially announced publicly yet). Gowen wrestled in NWA-TNA before signing with WWE. pwtorch.com
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 They need to stay away from Gowen, as he will bring nothing good to the table. Spanky would be good for this though, but he hardly is a recognizable face to represent the WWE. He was more memerable from his days in ROH than the WWE. I think this could be interesting, but do we really need another "invasion" angle. It's been so overdone that it's just stupid. But then again, I won't totally knock it until they try it.
eirejmcmahon Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Sorry. It's just...well....Spanky and the one legged wonder...not what you'd call a terrifying invasion group now, is it ?
Zack Malibu Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 I could see Dustin Rhodes going into the group too. Spanky and Gowen would make a good young heel team, IMO. Spanky has played the cocky SOB who acts bigger than life before (ROH), and I'd mark for Gowen using his prosthesis as a weapon. They shouldn't be the focal points of the group, but as the team of the stable, I could see it.
Insane Bump Machine Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 How about not advertising WWE on your programming and make you look second-rate?
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 How about not advertising WWE on your programming and make you look second-rate? Exactly....I don't think it could be said better than that.
SamoaRowe Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 How about not advertising WWE on your programming and make you look second-rate? Exactly....I don't think it could be said better than that. Until Styles, Jarrett, and Raven destroy them?
syxx2001 Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 Or they could just sit and act like they are the only promotion around and insult our intellegence and leave it to everyone else to complain about them insulting our intellegence.
Guest Krazy Karter Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 Platinum, Kendrick and Gowen The Outkasts I like it.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 How is Gowen an out-cast, WWE stole him from TNA< his contratc ran out, and he's going back. Spanky? He quit WWE because he wasn't going anywhere. Dustin Rhodes though is an out-cast.
Guest Krazy Karter Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 How is Gowen an out-cast He has one leg...
Guest Choken One Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 Dustin needs to just retire and not reduce himself to the levels Jarrett and Raven have, working for a low rate company.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 Dustin needs to just retire and not reduce himself to the levels Jarrett and Raven have, working for a low rate company. Well Raven DID work for ECW and WCW....oops, I forgot, WCW is the god of wreslting promotions past and ECW is NJPW or whatever promotion in JApan that was awesome before it turned to crap.
Guest JacK Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 Hey, Raven's making money, more than in WWE if you believe him apparently; so what does he care what people think? And it's like Jarrett's company, why wouldn't he work for them?
Mystery Eskimo Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 Well Raven DID work for ECW and WCW....oops, I forgot, WCW is the god of wreslting promotions past Im not sure what point you're trying to make, but theres not a person in the world who thinks that. I'm sure Spanky would rather be in Japan then TNA anyway.
Guest Ghettoman Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 Oh man how far this fed has come. What happen to the days when I'd here about how this TNA is gonna make it on pure wrestling alone, how they were gonna let there workers doing the talking for them in the ring, and how this fed was gonna be something special for all those fans that are sick of the WWE's ways..... And now the biggest talk is about Savage and using Spanky and Gowan for an INVASION!?!? With a punchline like that who needs jokes....
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 Funny thing is, the more I think about this Invasion angle, the more I think Savage is being brought in to lead it. BOOOOOOO
Guest dvkorn Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 Rumors and the Torch and in same sentence = lots of bullshit...
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 How is Dustin Rhodes anything but a good addition for TNA? His work was improving greatly in the WWF and he was over. Everyone was creaming themselves over Raven and D'Lo coming and they weren't a fraction as over as Rhodes was.

Everyone was creaming themselves over Raven and D'Lo coming and they weren't a fraction as over as Rhodes was. Well to be fair, Raven has a large fan-base so saying Dustin Rhodes is way more over than him is questionable.

I'm talking about the fan reactions they were getting leading up to them showing up in TNA.
Guest Choken One Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 The problem is this... Dustin has NEVER been able to get over as Dustin Rhodes. EVER. You think Randy Orton is shoved down your throat? Go back to 1992-1994 where they stuck Dustin with every great wrestler in the company (Steamboat, Rude, Pillman, Muta. Windham, Anderson, Eaton, MVC, Douglas, Vader) and he still couldn't hardly get over... If Hogan had never came in, Dustin/Austin would have headlined WCW in 1994.
eirejmcmahon Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 Dustin has NEVER been able to get over as Dustin Rhodes. EVER. Simple as that.
BoboBrazil Posted February 7, 2004 Author Report Posted February 7, 2004 I agree. Dustin as the lonestar redneck sucks. Why couldn't they have debuted him in the platinum gimmick?
Guest Choken One Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 gimmick infringement perhaps?
BoboBrazil Posted February 7, 2004 Author Report Posted February 7, 2004 Platinum wouldn't have been gimmick infringement. It would be like those people who change just enough in a song so they don't have to pay licensing fees. I missed the whole period in WCW where he debuted as that Powder type character, but I would have liked to have seen him do that.
BoboBrazil Posted February 7, 2004 Author Report Posted February 7, 2004 Yeah. I saw a pic of him with the white face paint in the black leather trench coat and it looked cool.
Guest Choken One Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 yeah and according to Raven, the booking plans were atrocious. something about kidnapping someone's kid or something
Guest JMA Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 I'm not one of these people who think Dustin can only get over as Goldust. True, the redneck gimmick is pretty lame, but I'm sure there's at least one other type of gimmick he could get over with. They (TNA) just need to find it.
