WWE Invasion

He has alot of charisma. He just needs a good character to channel it through. As Goldust doing the stuttering gimmick on Howard Sterm was like the greatest segment on that show ever.

exactly, he tried other gimmicks and characters but only in the Gold Paint does it come through...

He hasn't really had any other characters besides his redneck self and Goldust. As Se7en he never really got a chance to do anything from what I've read, since it was scrapped after one night.

I got no problem with them signing Spanky or Dustin to deals. Spanky is very talented and extremely underutilized, and the guy'd be a tremendous asset to them outside of any silly Invasion angle - he'd be perfect for the X-Division. Dustin's a pretty decent worker and if properly motivated could be a solid addition.

But Gowan? Or Savage, or Chyna, or Nash, or Hall, or Luger, etc.?!?!?!

The NWA is very quickly going to force me to make a decision on whether or not to abandon them if they keep up with the fucking retarded hiring decisions. And as of this point, that decision isn't going in their favor.

The Se7en gimmick was not about kidnapping kids. That was the reason that the gimmick was scrapped...that the promo's with Dustin peering into the kids window made it look like he was a pedophile.

The gimmick was supposed to tie into a Raven/KISS Demon feud, where Raven would be "saving souls" and make them servants to him, and The Demon would come to "break the spell" Raven cast on them. When it turned out Raven would be a puppet to the Se7en character, he backed out. The gimmick was given to Vampiro, who started saving jobber/opener guys (I remember Evan Karagias being one of them), and saying "you owe me", before The Demon showed up (Brian Adams era Demon) and facing off with Vamp in promo's. The the whole deal got dropped, Vamp went on to go with the Misfits, and Dale Torborg became The Demon (and eventually became part of Vamp's stable during the Sting/Vampiro feud).

And I'll say it again...A Dusty/Dustin tag team against a heel America's Most Wanted (after they turn on "mentor" Dusty, who has helped them on several occasions) would be a great old fashioned Memphis tag feud that I think the crowd would eat up.

I agree.

Here's a gimmick Dustin has never had before and could get over with: a man who shatters dreams.

The story being Dustin is angry and disgruntled after being let go from WWE. His dreams of being a superstar have been shattered, so he now decides to shatter the dreams of all those around him. He would randomly attack people, causing them to lose important title matches. He would also interfere in angles, such as romance ones. He would have no real motive other than to make others unhappy. And his attacks would be random.

Eventually, I'd have him brutalize Dusty in a bull-rope match and FINALLY retire him for good.

How is Dustin supposed to get over on his own if he is still working under daddy's shadow?

Dustin has NEVER been able to get over as Dustin Rhodes. EVER.

Not true at all. Dustin was very over in WCW in the early 90's as just "Dustin Rhodes". He was a really good worker too (all of those people that say Dustin sucked and was pushed because of his name probably haven't see much or any of his 1991 and 1992 work). He was way over working tags and singles match against the Dangerous Alliance. He had a ton of great "young babyface" charisma. Obviously, he would have to channel his charisma in another way today, but it is there.

So he was over as himself throughout his whole first WCW stint. The only other times he was himself (not counting the confusing and dumb time in the WWF where he got rid of the Goldust character and acted like himself) was his brief run in WCW in late 1999 and early 2000 and his 2001 WCW run. I wouldn't say he was really over during those two periods, but he certainly wasn't "not over". I actually remember him getting some pretty decent reactions in WCW in 2001 (as decent of reactions as you could get from those crowds).

The bottom line is that Dustin can and has got over just being himself. He is great with incorporating good spots in the matches to get the crowd behind him (especially in tags). If used right, he is still has some to offer.

Beyond those statements, Dustin worked well in the following matches where his opponents/partners were not "world class wrestlers" at the time.

vs. Steve Austin (Halloween Havoc 1991) - Austin, while already very good, was still developing like Rhodes was. They weren't good enough to put on a singles matches without having the lulls and downtime that disjointed the matches.

w/ Ricky Steamboat vs. Arn Anderson/Larry Zybisko (11/19/91) - This is Steamboat's match but Dustin is not only over but he plays his role perfectly, hitting his moves well, playing the good partner on the outside waiting for Steamboat to tag, etc.

w/ Windham/Simmons vs. Anderson/Eaton/Zybisko (1/21/92) - Dustin plays face in peril in this one and does a fantastic job of rallying the crowd before making the hot tag to Windham.

w/ Windham vs. Austin/Zybsiko (2/29/92) - the pinnacle of Rhodes career as he brings charisma, energy, moves, and SELLING in this match. He plays face in peril for the second half of the match (WIndham takes the first) and does so marvelously, doing some fantastic selling on all 3 of Austin's lariat's. This under pimped match is better than any Shawn Michaels match. Rhodes at this point in his career was better than anything Randy Orton, John Cena, Kurt Angle, etc have or probably will produce.

WarGames 1992 - he does his part well of playing a fired up babyface, then selling and bleeding a TON.

Then you have the Dustin Rhodes vs. Vader (11/16/94) and vs. Bunkhouse Buck at Spring Stampede 1994 to show some more of his great work and overness.

The myth about Rhodes sucking is just that, a myth. Don't know who started it, but Skeith promoted it and people seem to believe it without investigating it.

I feel my idea is a good one and would remove him from Dusty's shadow.

I agree with Tim, which is something of a rarity.

Dustin was in a shitload of good (if not great) matches in the early 90s. He was a good worker then, he's still a pretty good worker today.

Rhodes and Windham never get the credit they deserve when people talk about great tag teams.

They were my favorite tag team back in the early 90s. I almost cried when Barry turned on Dustin.

Hey, I was like 3 back then.

Have Dustin do the majority of the work, let Dusty stay on the apron, and come in for the hot tag. The workrate would rest all on the shoulders of one guy, but Dusty would have the charisma factor (not that Dustin doesn't have it, but without the Goldust gimmick or the underdog Dustin Rhodes from years back, it's declined), and they'd be able to keep the crowd into it. Plus, if they were to feud with AMW, it would freshen Harris and Storm up a bit, and give us something new rather than AMW vs. Flavor Of The Week Tag Team.

An AMW turn should also happen if Triple X stays over as faces when they reunite, which I'm sure they will.

And I wish they'd figure out what they're doing with The Naturals. They show up for run ins, but no matches? If they're gonna pay them to be there, start sticking them in angles. With The Naturals, AMW, Diamond/Swinger, Punk/Julio, Triple X (once the reunion happens), plus possible additions if the Dusty/Dustin or Spanky/Gowen tandems ever came to fruition, and the star power of The Outsiders (you KNOW they'll get a megapop when they show up), that's a pretty good tag division right there.

If TNA would just cater to their strengths, ie. the X-Division, and focus on emphasising the elements that are actually better than WWE, ie. the X-Division, and were to employ Spanky in an appropriate manner, ie. the X-Division, then maybe I'd give a damn.
