Damaramu Posted February 8, 2004 Report Posted February 8, 2004 So who watched the AFL game today on NBC? And which one did you get? I got the Voodoo vs. Soul. That was my first experience with arena football and I just want to say.....I don't know what to thin. It was so much different than the NFL and NCAA I didn't know what to expect. Those other football games just seem more action packed than this and I just couldn't get into it......that might be b/c I have no emotional attachment but I don't have an emotional attachment to a lot of NFL teams and I can get into their games. Like the Texans(who i could care less about) and the Chargers(who i could care less if they existed or not).....I could watch a game between those two and get into it.......so I don't know......the jury is still out with me and the AFL. What about you?
razazteca Posted February 8, 2004 Report Posted February 8, 2004 Not enough action? The scores are as high as basketball games!
Damaramu Posted February 8, 2004 Author Report Posted February 8, 2004 Not enough action? The scores are as high as basketball games! Higher score doesn't exactly equal more action. I mean they score into the 100's in the NBA and I couldn't be more bored watching it. The only thing that I thought was really cool was when they'd get checked into the boards.....it's like football hockey.
the pinjockey Posted February 8, 2004 Report Posted February 8, 2004 I can see why you wouldn't think this game was action-packed as this was a poorly played game. Since Philly got a team I think I will give it a chance, but it will be a hard sell as I have never really wanted football all year round.
Slovakia Posted February 8, 2004 Report Posted February 8, 2004 First I thought you guys were talking about the 1960s AFL of the Boston Patriots and Oakland Raiders...then I realized that predates almost every poster here.
Matt Young Posted February 9, 2004 Report Posted February 9, 2004 This was/is opening weekend, right? It's the first time I've seen the AFL on this year anyway, and I figured they wouldn't start until after the NFL season ended (tonight's Pro Bowl notwithstanding). It's cool that they're on a major network now. I remember them showing games in (I believe) TNN in years past, and it was nice to have football after the Super Bowl. Hell, I was even an XFL fan. I just find it hard to live without football. I watched most of the Avengers/Rattlers game today, and that was pretty good. I'd love to go see the LA Avengers play live one of these days.
Rob E Dangerously Posted February 9, 2004 Report Posted February 9, 2004 I really wish Kansas City could get an Arena team. I've heard that the games are great to watch in person.
Guest OctoberBlood Posted February 9, 2004 Report Posted February 9, 2004 Watching sports just for action is lame. But anyways, I didn't watch today, but I've watched AFL games before. Since I'm not a HUGE football fan, AFL doesn't really do much for me, but it's not as bad as people make it out to be. It's pretty fun to watch.
Ced Posted February 9, 2004 Report Posted February 9, 2004 I've seen bits and pieces of the AFL on TV. I'm not too impressed, but I've never been very high on watching any sport on TV. I do like when people get drilled into the sideline boards.
Guest ToddRoyal Posted February 9, 2004 Report Posted February 9, 2004 If New England had a team (again, I think we've had at least 2, but it was before AFL had TV coverage) I'd probably watch. But without that, it's hard for me to care.

I watch sports for action, excitement, and drama. What's wrong with that!? What else should I be watching for!?
Prime Time Andrew Doyle Posted February 9, 2004 Report Posted February 9, 2004 I thought you wre talking about Australian Rules football , which is by far the best football code in the world
gWIL Posted February 11, 2004 Report Posted February 11, 2004 I find the AFL to be more fun and enjoyable than the NFL in almost everyway. Its a lot faster paced and I find it to much more exciting. If you haven't been to a live game, go they kick ass. I'm hoping to go to a few Rampage games this year, as I went last for the first time and its great much more fun than I've ever had at an NFL or College game I have ever gone to.
Guest drdrainoscott Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 I'm pretty amazed that the AFL has been able to stay in business for 15 years or how ever many years it is. I mean, there is no way that AFL gets significantly better ratings than the XFL did, and the XFL got higher attendance then the AFL gets.
the pinjockey Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 By the end of the XFL, they were getting a good bit worse ratings than the AFL norm. There are minimal costs involved in the AFL as opposed to the $100 Million XFL. Plus, the AFL has their niche, so they keep their core group of fans. The XFL was just bad football trying to take on the NFL, so they kept no fans, as the XFL just pissed off fans by talking down about the NFL (which obviously people enjoy).
