Best Wrestlers Screwed By the Bussiness

Recommended Posts

I thought that with a decent push, Brad Armstrong could have been the face equivelant of a heel Barry Windham.

I think the only decent push he got was being a Freebird lacky. Pretty sad.

HE DID Pin Berlyn on PPV though :)

Armstrong seemed to be on the verge of unseating Tully Blanchard for the World TV Title back in 1987 --- but then he was just stuck in a tag team with his dad and his career died.

-=Mike

Brad vs. Tully would have been an awesome series :headbang:

It was an awesome series. They worked A LOT early in 1987 and the matches were all quite good.

Dean Malenko. Need I explain why?

Well, he WAS blackballed by NWA for some reason, and was pretty much near the end of his career when he became big in the states. So explain please.

I don't know the whole story but i know that Boris Malenko challenged any NWA wrestler to shoot against Joe and Dean and nobody accepted which made the NWA look bad.

I'll probably catch hell for saying Lenny and Lodi, both of them great talents lumped with bad gimmick upon bad gimmick

I do wish they would have let Lenny Lane run with his "Ab Solution" gimmick he used on Saturday Night.

Ricky Steamboat, damnit!

Watch Wrestlemania 4! He deserved to beat Valentine and at least make it to the second round to face Savage!

His IC Title reign lasted less than two months!

What's up with that?

Vince McMahon didn't like his selfish-ness....of wanting 3 weeks off to be with his new-born son.

And that reminds me, why did Monsoon say the baby was only a few months old....at WM, when it was almost a year old? Was he that stupid?

Was Kane held down by politics? He's been over forever with the gimmick, but he only had a one day world title reign, didn't he? Seems pretty weak considering he's supposed to be an unstoppable monster

The fact the guy keeps getting PUSHED alone means he hasn't been screwed although looking what he's been forced to do would lead you to believe so.

A few months/A year old isn't that far apart...It's not like he said the boy was 5

Dean was blackballed because his father ran an outlaw promotion in Florida(i think) and dean worked for them....considering his weight, height and mic skills he got a pretty good shake....to bad he wasnt put in the 4 horseman instead of mongo

Terry Taylor - one of the best all around talents of his time. stuck with Red Rooster gimmick

in wwf and wasted in wcw.

Bam Bam Bigelow - agile big man that was never really pushed that much in usa.

Alex Wright - looked like he was finally going to be the next big thing when he started

out with the Berlyn gimmick, then the rug was pulled from underneath him.

The New Breed (Sean Royal & Chris Champion) - looked like they were going to be

the next great NWA tag team and then I'm not sure what happened.

Rip Rogers - he was truely the man. mostly used as a jobber by wcw. Just look at him:

Mr. Perfect, no doubt. I don't know if he did drugs in his 88 to 91 WWF run, but it's pretty imfamous how he was supposed to win the Royal Rumble in 1990. Instead, Hogan, who was already champion, stepped in and had himself win. He, along with Dibiase, Owen Hart, Rick Rude, and Jake Roberts were consistantly over, but never got a run with the big one. I don't care if Perfect did drugs, alot of guys did who were more successful with less talent. "Cough" Hogan "Cough" Steroids"

Malenko I would say also, but he was Benoit with even less charisma. However, he did rank number 1 in the 1997 PWI 500. Does anyone know why? Still one of my favorite wrestlers of all time.

coughHogan made more money for WWF than Hennig could dream about:cough

And Perfect was pretty thick considering his look in the early 80s.

Steamboat may have gotten screwed by Vince but he was worshipped in the NWA so he doesn't count.

I don't think Monsoon thought people would nitpick and care how old Steamboat's kid was.

My only bitching is the kid LOOKED a year old. It's not that hard to tell the kid was kinda big for a month old.

Another story I heard was that Hogan was mad that Steamboat-Savage's match stole the show at WM. And he wanted to get Steamboat buried anyway he can.

Wait a second... scratch that....

but KING OF THE RING 95!

Okay, nevermind....

True on that one, I always liked Bigelow, but all his big pushed seem to get hacked up. I hear his ECW run was pretty good, but we didn't get ECW out here til its TNN days.

Agreed, Hogan had nothing to do with screwing Dibiase out of WM IV. By the time Savage was going to drop the title, Dibiase had sizzled out a little and feuded with mid-carder Hercules. Damn HTM.

I'll add Mike Shaw to the game. A talented big man as Mahkan Singh in Stampede, he went to WCW, and thanks to Ole Anderson not liking him, was given TWO shit gimmicks. He left, went to WWE a little later and they gave him two SHITTIER Gimmicks.

The guy just couldn't catch a break in the states.

I'm a big Mahkan fan. I'll never forget the Mahkan Singh fan club in Stampede. Pure gold. One other thing about him though is that he was gold on the microphone. He commentated there with Ed Whalen for awhile and was very good at it. He enjoyed what he was doing as you could just see the passion coming from him.

Rip Rodgers is another guy who should've made it bigger.

I wouldn't say he got held back from the offices of WCW at that time. He was wearing a heavy trench coat and that columbine shooting happen around the time, he was sitting in the front row, so WCW had to pull it for a little while until things calmed down. So that was more of a bit of bad luck thing happening.

Uhm...Dean WAS in the Horsemen.

Owen Hart springs to mind. He had such great skills and truly became under-appreciated by nearly everyone - myself included. He definately deserved a run with the World Title.

Barry Windham should've been a legend. He had so much skill, agility, and all around ability for one with a large frame. It wasn't until 91-ish where the effects of hitting the bottle started the greatly affect his body. He got heavier...much heavier. He lost his good lucks and started to run into knee injuries. I'd say he was screwed over by circumstances and booze. But he coulda been huge in 97-98 WWE as an opponent for Steve Austin if he had stayed in shape and not buggered up his knees.

As for Curt Hennig I'd agree except for the fact that he screwed himself out of stuff.

Could you elaborate? I never heard anything about Hennig's drug problems or alcohol problems or whatever problems ever costing him anything(unless you count him being drunk on the plane from hell).

I know when, in 1993, he was on his way to a World title his back became too fucked up to wrestle on.

And I know for the majority of his career Hall screwed himself over but still he could've been World champ cause he had the mic skills, charisma, good enough ring skills and was over his entire career. Plus I still say he should've gotten the belt off Backlund instead of Diesel.

Lex Luger got screwed over by politics...

A quick comparison of Luger/Hogan (with some What ifs tossed in)

Luger's career:

1985: Took World Champ Flair to a draw as a Rookie, Set up as legit challenger fueds with Wahoo McDaniels and Ed Ganter serve to give him the rub of several veterens

1988: Finally gets his big money program w/ Flair .... Dominates but is screwed time and time again... by the end of the year Flair is refusing to job to Luger and Luger is still majior over

1991: Flair gets pissy, so After milling around the upper mid card forever Luger is finally given the World title beating a tag team wrestler (Windham) and turned heel for no adaquately explored reason (Lack of Heels to Face?)

Luger has long lost interest in all the BS and sleep walks through the title reign, only wishing he had the momentum he had back in 88

-----

Hogan's career:

1980: Fueds with Backlund and Andre establish Hogan as a man to be wreckened with

1982: Turns face and takes Nick Bockwinkel to the limit time and time again... Hogan refuses the belt after a year or so of this and jumps to the WWF

1984: (Fantasy on) Hogan takes Iron Shiek to a Double DQ on his 1st match in and chases the Shiek unsuccessfully before being shunted down to the midcard to fued with Valentine over the IC title.

Shiek jobs to Slaughter in Nov of 84.....

1986: Sarge gets pissy and is jobbed to tag wrestler Greg Valentine Hogan beats him soon after and abruptly turns heel... The fans are unimpressed and momentum never starts.... Hogan loses interest and pursues Hollywood

Hulkamania is never born and Hulk is remembered as "a Roided up, over pushed barely drew money outside of the AWA unspectacular worker"

-----------

This sounded better in my head, but I hope you get the jist of what I'm saying.
