Guest DVD Spree Report post Posted February 17, 2004 I'm sad to announce that this week's TuesDVDay News will be my last for the site. I've just accepted a new job writing for a magazine in the lovely (and expensive)south of England, and unfortunately I'm just not going to have the time to write weekly columns any more. I will continue to contribute with semi-regular DVD reviews (and even more infrequently, the odd videogame review), so I'll still be around, just not every Tuesday/Wednesday as I have been. So, TSM's weekly DVD News reporter position is now up for grabs. Anyone interested should get in touch with Dr. Tom ([email protected]), who will probably ask for a sample column. Without being overly dramatic, and though I'm still going to be around here in a semi-regular reviewer capacity, I'd like to give an extraordinarily huge shout out to The Dames, Dr. Tom, Popick, Helmet, The Truth, and everyone else here who has made me feel so at home at TSM. I felt like an unloved child when Scott and co. left for 411, but I made a pledge to stick around here and do what I could to help get TSM off the ground - it's hard to believe what the site has become, looking back at all those staff meetings where we were so desperate to generate traffic of any kind. I'm proud of TSM, and I'm proud to be a part of it, and I hope to continue - in my own, diminished way - to make the site better and better. I'm eternally grateful to The Dames for letting me sleep on his cyber couch all this time, and for putting up with all my bullshit whenever I didn't update on time or simply did the job half-assed. Thanks to everyone who's read the DVD News, to everyone who sent me feedback or news bits, and especially to the folks who kept reading me here even when TheSmarks crew jumped ship. And thanks to Scotsman, for just being a really good guy who has looked out for me. So, I'm still going to be kicking around - I'm moving next week, but reviews of Haggard, Shaolin Soccer and the like are still on their way, just as soon as I'm all settled in. You can still get in touch at [email protected] any time, and hey, I'm really not that important around here anyway. Cheers Jay Spree

Guest DVD Spree Report post Posted February 24, 2004 Hey all - just a quick update on what I've been up to. I wanted to say thanks to everyone for the kind words and props - especially all the folk who took he time to email, even though I haven't replied to anyone (for reasons I'm about to go into). This is the first time I've been online since I posted my "farewell", so apologies to the good folks who are waiting on me to reply to stuff. I spent all day Tuesday looking up apartments online, and then I drove down to Woking with the missus and spent all day Wednesday looking at them. We finally found an awesome place that had just been redone from top to bottom - new furniture, new carpets & curtains, new goddamn everything - so we handed over some cash and filled out forms, and basically everything was looking awesome. Then shit went bad. The story is boring, but siffice it to say that, having driven for nearly four hours, we were 20 minutes from home when the agent called and told us the deal had fallen through. So, I got on the train on Thursday (at a cost of £77 ($130) from Gloucester to London, which is just flat out obscene) and had to work my ass off to find a new place and make a deal before I was due to start my new job on Monday. Anyway, after much heartache, I got a new place sorted out, and then spent the weekend packing and moving all my shit down south. So, apologies for not replying to people, but I've been a VERY busy boy. The magazine I'm working on now is called INTERSEC, which is a trade publication on security and anti-terrorism. I was looking at two writing gigs, one on Edge (basically the best and most respected videogame magazine in the UK) and INTERSEC. At the end of the day, this job offered a 30% higher salary, and the Director really likes me and has been talking about plans for expansion, offering me a promotion and 15% raise before I've even been there a week. Not for nothing though - I've moved 100 miles down south right into the expensive outer cusp of London, where a loaf of bread costs more than a bottle of Coke where I'm from. Aaaaaanyway, I'm going to be a busy boy for a little while, and my internet access is still completely hit and miss right now, but rest assured, I haven't abandoned TSM and reviews will be forthcoming... hey, at least I was reliable for a couple of weeks. Cheers Jay
