TSM Head-to-head FantasyBaseball League~!

Recommended Posts

Will it be straight or serpentine(1st: 1-16, 2nd: 16-1, etc.)?

Since people might let a good player go till the fifth round (as was with the NBA league) this one is straight. And no one complain, I had already stated as much in my very first post (of this thread)

*reads first post* You did?

The draft will be occuring at 9:45am PST (12:45pm EST) on Feb 26th. It will be a LIVE draft! So please make sure you clear out your schedule and everything else. Date can be changed although time will still probably be crap.

It was supposed originally supposed to be live.

Hence it would be straight up.

So see? I was telling the truth.

Live drafts are serpentine style

<_<

*even out of EWR, logic truly escapes me*

...you totally haven't read my diaries, have you? If so, you know that this, answers your question. Logic dictates a serpentine draft.

With that out of my way, SEND IN THAT INFO I WANT FROM YOU~!

The order will be whoever does as I requested, like the below.

People who are participating in the draft, send a PM (as in Private Message on TSM) to myself with your AIM name and Team Name (that way I'm not looking for it in here). I will then place your Team Name in a bowl or something and pull it out. I will then post up the draft order here tomorrow at like 3pm EST (that's noon MST, hence why I'm doing that).

So if I don't get anyone's AIM and Team Name, you will then be placed after those who's names I've pulled out of a hat, in the order that those people finally notify me (via PM) that they aren't on the draft order. Oh and to those that forget, I won't place you on the draft order until I get both your AIM and Team Name. If you only produce one of the two, you won't be placed on the draft order.

And should anyone forget to do so? You'll be placed dead last.

Deal? Deal.

One last thing I wanted to mention. Although the league has only 16 teams, I do have four positions still available should anyone who really wants to join, can join. I don't want to make it seem like I'm not willing to let others who wanted to join, but didn't because of a situation, not able to.

It doesn't matter if you make the amount of teams odd or even, it'll still work out in the end for the draft. For some reason this was different with the NBA draft, but not for the MLB draft.

AND I NEED THIS INFO FROM EVERYONE BEFORE 3PM EST TOMORROW~!

I'm 99.9% sure i should be available for the draft, it'll be a little tricky due to the time difference (me being in Australia), but i don't anticipate any problems. Now i just have to go download AIM again.

*gets ready to draft Aaron Boone and Ken Griffey Jr in the first 2 rounds*

Really Marv? They actually any good?

Aside from not being up to date (I Rod, Maddux listed as FA, no A-Rod trade) Im not too sure about some of their rankings.

For instance:

OF Rankings:

1. C. Beltran

2. Vlad

3. B. Abreu

4. V. Wells

5. Ichiro

6. M. Ramirez

7. P. Wilson

8. G. Anderson

9. A. Jones

10. M. Ordonez

I don't think I'd have Beltran over Vlad and Abreu that high (after last years blah kinda year, I had him). Preston Wilson's 141 RBI last year was a fluke.

They do have Tejada #2 at SS behind Arod, and with A Rod moving to 3rd I guess that makes Tejada the #1 Fantasy SS, although Im guessing ARod will start most leagues with SS eligibility and gain 3B eligibiliy in late April.

For the Os fan in me, I don't get how they can have Larry Bigbie higher than Jay Gibbons primarily based on Bigbies last 2 months of the season last year. They also think that Javy Lopez is in for a huge decline in his numbers even though he'll probably get more ABs being the DH. They have Lopez 5th behind Irod, Posada, Piazza and Leiberthal. I can understand all but Piazza..

I think their best rankings are their pitchers, and since Im hoping to go heavy on the pitching, Im not gonna put their list up for that.

OK if no one minds me asking. Who did you rank first in the player rankings? In this league and any other league?

I have Mark Prior. Don't get me wrong I'd have not problem if I ended up with A-Rod, or Pujos. It's just I feel he is going to be awesome. 20 wins, 2. 40 era, awesome K to Walks ratio.

Right now i'm leaning to Pujols as my top ranked player, though i've changed my mind on that about 50 times in the last few days, and will probably change it another 50 before the draft actually goes down.

Ok... I just want to let everyone know something.

...I lied. I'm sorry, but I wanted to let you people know this straight up and I apologize ahead of time.

What did I lie about? Well, for instance, I had the draft order done up totally different than what I said... Sorta.

If you had your thing into me, I added you to a list, directly as is. So if you sent your PM into me, you'd automatically got ranked. At a certain time, if I didn't get anyone at that exact time, I would add myself to the draft order and then people would follow.

That was my whole plan at the time. Reason I didn't say anything of the sort, was to get a more natural reponse and to make people pay up for being lazy.

That said here's what I've got for the draft order so far:

01) Pocono Poison - alkeiper

02) 1000% Guapos - razazteca

03) Rebels of Oakland - Bored

04) Crimson Storm - Lightning Flik

05) Whalers on the Moon - the pinjockey

06) NuclearSledgehammers - MarvinisaLunatic

07) Gotham Harlequins - HarleyQuinn

08) Warts Whackos - Wart (...I have no idea who this is, newbie I guess)

09) Pawtucket Red Sox - Cartman

10) Brockvegas Posse - treble charged

11) EL KABONG~! Slapnuts - Slapnuts!

12) Vacant

13) Vacant

14) Vacant

15) Vacant

16) Vacant

...Vern as I mentioned in PM, I need your Team Name and AIM Name, otherwise, you aren't added to the listing. And in a PM, not in here.

Finally, to those 5 managers (that's including you Vern) who haven't given me all of what I requested, please send me your AIM and Team Name for you to be added to the list.

Because Javy's year has "fluke" written all over it. These rankings are not based on last season alone. They take several seasons into account. If and when I'm drafting, I take Piazza over Lopez in a heartbeat. I computed three year averages of those five players, based on the five stats Tom and I use. Lopez comes fourth, ahead of Lieberthal.

That was my whole plan at the time. Reason I didn't say anything of the sort, was to get a more natural reponse and to make people pay up for being lazy.

Being that I'm first, I should keep my mouth shut, but aren't people who are lazy MORE likely to sit at the computer all day? If we had done this on a Thursday night into Friday, I'd be screwed.

Then that would've been the "natural" reaction.

So really, you can't say anything. :P

Besides, I could just do the hat deal. Then you might be dead last.

Then again, that's not that bad of a thing.

Although, I'm kinda not sure if it's going to be Serpentine or not. I'm actually now wondering if I should truly make those people who didn't hand in their stuff early feel it.

I'm #7 which is a good spot.

IMO the top pick should be Soriano since he's without a doubt the best 2B available in terms of power(HR's & RBI's). Granted, OBP'll kill him but he's playing in Arlington which should only help his numbers.

I have to quibble with some of the stats we're using before the draft. 12 categories seems excessive for hitters, as does 11 for pitchers. A lot of these stats duplicate themselves. Counting both singles AND hits is unnecessary. As is hits AND batting average, and earned runs AND earned run average. Also, hitter's strikeouts are counted in batting average anyway. I know you like to over-load these things, but seriously, less is more sometimes.

They are all different stats. Not one of them are duplicates. They may use a stat to produce another but they are not the same.

How the hell is singles and hits unneccesary? One is for how many singles you can hit, the other is how many times you hit! Batting Average is calculated via a formula that uses hits in it. ERA is the exact same when it comes to ERs. Strikeouts are counted in batting average yes, but to calculate the BA; this doesn't mean that the stat itself is excusable, just because it is used to caculate something.

And load them? Excuse me? I didn't have a ton when we did the NBA Fantasy League.

A modest 13 wasn't bad. Which then ended down to 8.

These are the cats I'd propose: BA/OBP(Essentially takes care of the Walks vs K's while telling the manager how many times the player gets on base)/R/H/2B/3B/HR/RBI/SB/E(Not sure how essential this is considering the other cats would be more offense based)

That's still 9 categories. If you have 2B's, 3B's and HR's as categories then essentially, hits just stands for singles if you take out the 2B's, 3B's and HR's from the total of the hits.

Pitching looks fine although I think having an ER category might be unnecessary if there's already an ERA since that's just an average of a pitcher's Earned Runs.

*sighs* FINE~! You picky, picky people. Consider batting categories changed to what HarleyQuinn has suggested.

Pitching is staying as is. Oh, and I'm not about to let people who were lazy get a good shot at redemption. SO...

DRAFT IS STRAIGHT, NOT SERPENTINE~!

Trust me, some people make some bad choices, so you will get some good players no matter what. Anyone from my fantasy basketball league can tell you this as people will pick according to how they wish to play or feel is reasonable for them.

And whoever the heck is Small Red Machine, don't you DARE drop. We've got 16 teams and you drop, you'll screw us up.

Bravo. The reason hits AND singles is unnecessary is that a batter would get credit in two catagories for a base hit, as he would a double or triple. Obviously, those should be worth more. Ideally, I'd use total bases instead of doubles and triples, but what we've got now is fine.

And right now, I'm likely drafting Alex Rodriguez first. Shortly into the season he'll be eligible at shortstop AND third base. That's not common to find, especially in one of the best hitters available.

I normally don't like the 5th spot, but since it is a straight draft I don't mind. 5th sucks in serpentine leagues. Just low enough not to get a top three stud and high enough that your second rounder is lesser quality.

Drafting 12th i have a pretty good idea who i'm going for and what draft strategy i plan to use, which means after two rounds i'll go away from my plan completely and end up drafting stupid like i do in every other fantasy draft i participate in.
