EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2004 Well I ended up not being able to attend and am glad that some of my picks went through but my auto draft picks only went so far. I think I only did through 50. Anyone (Al) want to give me a evaluation as it was my first time having to do so with only 1 league. Keep in mind that I already dropped A. Boone. Ok. Lets evaluate...... Playing time could become an issue with Eric Young and Craig Monroe. Having Dmitri Young helps as he is multi-position eligible. Erstad is an injury risk, but should be able to fill in at first. I like the flexibility of the hitting, but I would worry about depth. The rotation looks solid. No worries there. A great closer as well. Scot Shields is next in line if one the Angels' first five goes down. Timlin's a good middle reliever. Overall, not too bad, but I think team OBP might be a problem. Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2004 I'd ask Al to give my team a once over as well. Since, well... I've realized it ain't that swank, but pretty meh... I'd like an evaluation please.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2004 The lineup looks good, albeit with DaVanon's limited playing time. Aubrey Huff is a hitting machine. Lots of homers and steals spread around. Good lineup. The pitching is a problem. Too many middle relief guys, and too few starters. Villone is no better than 7th on the M's depth chart. John Burkett......retired. You desperately need to find starting pitching.
treble 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2004 I'm pretty happy with my team. My pitching could be better, but I like my offence for the most part.

treble 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2004 Yeah, I was told that after I drafted him. I dropped him and picked up someone else, so I'm just waiting for it to go through waivers.
treble 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2004 Al's draft strategy: Draft players who aren't injured or retired. By the time I picked Mays, I was just going through trying to pick up starters on good teams and hope I'd get a few wins from that.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2004 I downloaded Netscape, and the draft test seems ok. So I should be in good shape for the SNKT draft, Tom's draft, and the NL draft. A reminder. There are two available slots remaining in the NL league. First come, first serve.
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Report post Posted March 3, 2004 well luckily, I switched to a different computer (a laptop) that let me install Java so I was able to draft. But, as you may have noticed, I got disconnected with about 8 rounds to go. ah well. Al I'd say you did pretty damn good considering you wern't even there

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2004 Yep. Soriano is not a bad guy to have around at all. My only concern is that he starts in the pen. That shouldn't last.

Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2004 Comparing my two teams I did a hell of a lot better in the Head to Head draft. And I had last round pickings all the time. This AL one, I really drafted quite poorly.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2004 You have to remember that the player pool is MUCH thinner in this league. While Jeremy Bonderman or Mike Maroth aren't worth shit in the H2H league, picking the right one can mean victory in this league.
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Report post Posted March 3, 2004 dude, Maroth is an everyday player on my team. I'm so afraid.

HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2004 I'm actually quite curious on what Al has to say about my team. I think it's pretty solid top to bottom though I'm slightly worried about my #4/#5 starters and think I got a decent steal with Chad Bradford considering how late I took him. the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2004 I am happy with my team. Swiping Phelps late allowed me to address my biggest concern (Catcher, thank you Yahoo for giving al two catchers) and that leaves my biggest lineup hole as Bobby Crosby. If he is my Pokey Reese I can live with that. In Vazquez I have an ace for my rotation, I see no reason Kim can't be an elite level pitcher, and if Affeldt stays healthy he should produce for me. Throw in one closer and one possible closer and I have saves covered. #4-#5 SPs concern me, but they are going to be a concern for most teams. Plus, I picked up Duchscherer to stash until midseason. I am disappointed that I threw away my last round pick thinking I had noone left I wanted, but hopefully my waiver request resolves that problem. But I doubt I will get him. razazteca 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2004 I think I have the official worst team in the AL league. All I have is Mr. Jheri Curl Pedro, Redman, MacDougal and several scrubs for pitchers. My best batters are Tejeda or from Japan (Ichiro & Matsui) and I have 2 players that might retire this season (Olerud & Myers).
HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2004 Olerud's said that he wants to play a few more years after this(He's still a very solid OBP guy, posting .400+ OBP's twice in the past 3-4 years). Teixiera should improve in Arlington and could see his HR's jump to 33 or more.

Teixeira could really break out this year. Except for Myers and Olerud, all of those guys are on their way up. If Crede develops, he could become useful trade bait. That lineup looks really good. The pitchers could be good, but they're somewhat suspect. The lack of a closer could hurt. ERA might be a concern as well. We've now got all 16 teams in our league, so registration is closed. The live draft is scheduled for Thursday, March 11. Hopefully I'll get it to work this time. Good luck to all involved. treble 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2004 I don't know how many ABs Myers is going to get this year. The Jays want to develop Kevin Cash as the catcher of the future so I think he'll get more playing time behind the plate and they probably don't want to take Phelps out of the line-up too often (if he plays well) to put Myers at DH.
