The "What Film(s) Did You Watch Today" Thread

Recommended Posts

I just got back from a screening of an old Milos Forman film called The Firemen's Ball, which was rather hilarious. I'll probably end up getting this on DVD sooner or later.

Wishmaster 2: Evil Never Dies

4 out of 10

Not a great horror film, not a scary horror film. But Andrew Divoff (The Wishmaster) makes it watchable. He just looks so damn evil, and he plays the charcter perfectly.

The guy looks like the Offsping of Oswald from The Drew Carry Show, and Satan.

The first Wishmaster is far better

Scrooged - 9/10

one of my all time favorite Christmas comedies

That's one of the best Bill Murray films, very funny and expertly mixes in the pathos and eventual redemption of Murray's character, great film.

This Is Spinal Tap - 10/10

Can't find any fault whatsoever with this film, its brilliantly written and performed from start to finish and it doesn't drag at any point, just one great scene after another. A classic comedy.

Lost In Translation

It's very hard to express the words for which I need to describe this movie. This is, quite simply, an absolutely ENGROSSING film. Coppola deserves that Oscar for capturing the beauty of Tokyo, which aided by the integration of two cultures, sets the stage for two fantastic lead performances by Bill Murray and Scarlette Johannson.

10 out of 10, and highly recommended.

Secret Window (8.5/10)

Wow, another surprise - but this time, a good one. Johnny Depp was amazingly good, and I won't spoil anything - but the movie has a great twist and is really an enjoyable thriller from start to finish.

Wishmaster 3

1 out of 10

Andrew Divoff is the only man who should play The Djinn. The guy they had do it for #3 isn't that bad. But Divoff just completly owns the part and no one can touch it.

Awful awful movie. The storyline is balls, and rather laughable. It's not at all scary. And the death of The Djinn is such a letdown. And it's only the 3rd movie, so I don't know how they ran out of clever ways to kill people with wishes already.

I watched two films today, both brand new theater releases.

1) The Ladykillers --- 8/10

I really liked this one. I didn't care much for the Gawain (Wayans) character, and the stupidity of Lump (Hurst) was just too far out there. I mean, I understand the point of making him out to be stupid, but to act like a certified 100% in every way RETARD was just too much. I mean, he couldn't hardly even speak. Other than my problem with those two characters, I loved the film. The Professor (Hanks) character is just awesome, and everyone else did great also. This one has the signature of the Coens all over it.

I've, sadly, never seen the original version, so I can not compare the two. I'll watch the original soon though, just so I can get the entire feel of the story.

2) Scooby Doo II --- 7/10

I loved the first one, and I loved this one in the same way. It's Scooby-Doo, I think it stays pretty faithfull to the orignal material for the most part. The only problem I had with it was the cheap ass fart jokes. Seriously, Hollywood please listen to me, ENOUGH IS E'FN'OUGH!

Really? Wayans was probably my favourite character in the movie, along with probably the old lady. Everyone else was kinda blah with me, especially Lump (and [mild spoilers] you could see what happens to his character towards the end coming a mile away). I'd probably give it an 8/10, too.

BTW, was that Eddie Murphy who played the conducter of the church choir?

Eh, the Gawain character was just too accented to me, and the same thing for Lump. I didn't "hate" them, but I didn't care for either one that much. I didn't even dislike them as a whole really, there were just certain times where they both really got to me.

Well, he isn't credited for being in the movie but it sure as hell looked just like him. I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought that. The only thing, is that he might not be the same size as Murphy.

Yeah, I thought he might have been a little too small, too, but maybe there was some trickery in there. They showed him a lot, though, and I don't think they would have done that for someone who wasn't a big name.

If it isn't him, it's his freakin' twin or something.

Him and his brother, Charlie are basically twins.

Charlie has a much deeper voice, though.
