Youth N Asia Posted July 17, 2004 Report Posted July 17, 2004 Resident Evil 6 out of 10 The Watcher 6 out of 10
godthedog Posted July 18, 2004 Report Posted July 18, 2004 'gimmie shelter' - shitty boring first half, but the second half was great. nice feeling of bad vibes & chaos going on during the altamont concert, awesome "happy accident" photography (with that frightening shot of mick jagger trying to sing with an extremely creepy guy standing right next to him onstage & staring at him). it's too bad they didn't get any decent footage before the day of the show. Â 'mystic river' - biggest disappointment i've seen in a long time. just tried to do way too much and didn't know how to fit all the pieces together. it's a domestic drama about grief and dealing with tragedy! no wait, it's a detective story with a murder mystery! no wait, it's a gangster movie! no wait, it's an allegory about cycles of violence! just...ugh. the story kept finding new footing and trying to pounce on that & take it in another direction, and as a result just completely lost focus as a whole. after a while i stopped caring.

I pretty much agree about this. I was rather disappointed with this. I felt it started off well enough, but I agree that as time went on my tolerance for it lessened. I'd still say it's quite good, but that ending nearly destroys anything else the film had going for it. Â Anyway, Â I saw Some Like It Hot. I loved it, personally. Though I know how terrible Marilyn apparentally was working on the film, I thought she shone in it. And Jack Lemmon was awesome. My only problem was I couldn't figure out why there was a ukelele player in a jazz band. Otherwise I think it was pretty near faultless. Â And The Terminator. I know I'm in the minority, but it's better than the sequel. Arnie worked better for me as a villain. And the scenes in the police station are awesome. There are several awesome scenes. And I feel it has a stronger story than the second one, which is more a heap of action scenes strung together. While that worked for the film, I feel the original's approach was more preferable to me. Plus it doesn't have the stupid little kid. Plus it has Lance Hendriksen.

Nevermortal Posted July 20, 2004 Report Posted July 20, 2004 Monster. Â 7.5/10 Â Too much of a love story. I needed more whoring and killing.
The Mandarin Posted July 20, 2004 Report Posted July 20, 2004 Black Hawk Down (for at least the fifth time): A+
Nevermortal Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 City of God. Â 10/10 Â Best film I've seen in the past few years. No question about it.

Youth N Asia Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 I, Robot  8 out of 10  Way better than I was expecting.
Nevermortal Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 Matrix Reloaded - D+Â Neo flying really bugs me. What is he, fuckin Superman? Hence the joke in the movie.
Nevermortal Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 Last night I watched: Â Training Day = 8/10. Â Denzel's performance as a villain was real, real good even if I had to deal with Ethan Hawke's shittiness. I'm glad I bought the movie for 6.99. Â Bowling for Columbine = 9/10 Â [paging AMikeSC] Â Tomorrow I get Lost in Translation & 25th Hour from Netflix. Â Why isn't this thread pinned yet?
Mole Posted July 23, 2004 Report Posted July 23, 2004 Matrix Reloaded - D+Â Neo flying really bugs me. What is he, fuckin Superman? Hence the joke in the movie. Missed that one. Â I, Robot - B
godthedog Posted July 23, 2004 Report Posted July 23, 2004 why pin it when it always stays on page 1 anyway? it's not like you have to make any effort to find it.
Nevermortal Posted July 23, 2004 Report Posted July 23, 2004 why pin it when it always stays on page 1 anyway? it's not like you have to make any effort to find it. My eyes cannot move down. It's a rare condition.
Mole Posted July 23, 2004 Report Posted July 23, 2004 Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen - D- Â Gooooood fuckin Lord. That was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. It was just sooooo lame. The only reason it gets a D- and not an F is because of Lohan. Â And her tits.
Nevermortal Posted July 24, 2004 Report Posted July 24, 2004 25th Hour. Â 10/10. Â Easily one of the best movies I've ever seen.
nogoodnick Posted July 24, 2004 Report Posted July 24, 2004 This week: Bourne Supremacy 5.5/10 Not Another Teen Movie 7.5/10 Spiderman 2 (again) 10/10
spiny norman Posted July 25, 2004 Report Posted July 25, 2004 Trainspotting: I've often heard everyone claim Requiem For A Dream as being the best film about drug addictions ever. As far as I'm concerned, this far surpassed it. Robert Carlyle was brilliant as a complete and utter scumbag and it was a strong start for Ewan McGregor in his first major film role. But the editing and cinematography was absolutely amazing. The fact that it was only nominated for screenplay at the Oscars shows how North America-oriented the Academy is. It was funny, depressing, disturbing and entertaining (but I found it difficult to be amused after the scene with the baby, possibly the most disturbing thing I've ever seen in a film). I thought this was an excellent film. 9/10
