Bored Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/atl...04/26lewis.html Star NFL running back Jamal Lewis was indicted Wednesday afternoon by a federal grand jury in Atlanta on drug conspiracy charges. Lewis, 24, a graduate of Douglass High School in Atlanta, is accused of conspiring to distribute cocaine from June 23, 2000, until July 19, 2000.
Guest Choken One Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 HA! HA! HA! Does he get Jail time? no Way but maybe with the distracton This makes the bengals NFC NORTH TITLE chances SO MUCH better...
Guest OctoberBlood Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 HA! HA! HA! Does he get Jail time? no Way but maybe with the distracton This makes the bengals NFC NORTH TITLE chances SO MUCH better... I was gonna post the same thing. I love it! Go the addiction of drugs, GO!
Guest Choken One Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 addiction? It only said he was conspiring to distribute...
DangerousDamon Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 Wow it takes nearly four years to bring charges. Also must I add from the looks of this, these incidents happened while he was still a college "student" or in transition to the pros.
Guest OctoberBlood Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 addiction? It only said he was conspiring to distribute... Yes I know. If Drugs wasn't so addicting and demanding, it probally wouldn't have happened. Biatch~!@
MarvinisaLunatic Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 I don't think the league will do much more than maybe a fine and hes on their list so if he screws up in regards to something with drugs again he gets suspended. They can't very well order him in to rehab for distributing drugs, and it happened 4 years ago and while he was in college. Of course, everyones gonna be like JAMAL'S A DRUG ADDICT!!! GOES GREAT WITH THE DOUBLE MURDERER YOU HAVE ON DEFENSE!
Guest FrigidSoul Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 depends on how much he was distributing since we know he only did it for like a month. If he sold a 40 every now and again then he'll get probation. If he was moving kilos and shot he should go to prison. Either way the NFL can't do shit because this happened before he was a member.
Guest Redhawk Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 Me and my roommate had Lewis pegged as the cover boy for Madden 2005. I guess this probably cancels that. So who's the guy now? (although it might be Madden himself, since everyone's paranoid of the "Madden Curse") Priest Holmes? Tom Brady? Peyton Manning?

MarvinisaLunatic Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 well hell, I forgot he was suspended for 4 games in 2001 for being a repeate violator of the substance abuse policy (the same season he missed the whole year because of the torn ACL). So its possible that he could get suspended the whole year based on it being at least his 3rd run in. Digging further back, he was arrested when he was 18 for shoplifting at a Macy's Dept Store. This is going to trial, although not any time soon and Jamal is going to turn himself in tomorrow and get bail.

Well at this rate I guess we can just flush the entire 2004 Season down the toilet for the Ravens the way its going so far.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU SELL DRUGS IF YOU'RE GOING TO BE A TOP TEN DRAFT PICK!!!!????? Goddamnit.
Guest Redhawk Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU SELL DRUGS IF YOU'RE GOING TO BE A TOP TEN DRAFT PICK!!!!????? Goddamnit. BECAUSE "GOING TO BE" DOESN'T PAY THE CURRENT BILLS!! I'm not saying selling drugs is right, but some people just see it as doing what they gotta do. And, correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the NCAA prevent players from getting jobs while they're in school?

I believe it is to protect the future stars' potential careers. Stupid, but meh. It's probably how shit like this stuff happens.
Guest Redhawk Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 When the U of Washington got put on probation in the early 1990s, one of the violations (and this isn't exact, but close) was that QB Billy Joe Hobert had a part-time "job" through a booster where he basically drove by a golf course occasionally to make sure it was still there, and got paid some ridiculous amount of money for it.
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 strange that it took so long to file charges. it'll be interesting to see what the league does about this. This would be his third time violating the drug policy (I have to assume selling coke qualifies), but he wasn't even in the league when it happened. Plus it's kind of hard to call it a repeat offense when it happened before the other times he got busted. If he misses time the Ravens are definatly in some shit. ps - I assure you college football stars aren't starving.
Spaceman Spiff Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 This makes the bengals NFC NORTH TITLE chances SO MUCH better... I'd take this bet in a heartbeat, for any amount of money. There is absolutely, positively, no way in hell this will happen.

Kahran Ramsus Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 Yeah. We all know that the Packers are going to win the NFC North easily.

And, correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the NCAA prevent players from getting jobs while they're in school? According to the article, he was buying it for a childhood friend to sell. He was supposed to have the ability to resell the cocaine to his friend at a price that he could profit from. It seems to me like he was being greedy, doing his friend a favor and really didn't have any huge debt that he had to repay that warranted selling drugs, but this is just pure speculation on my part.
the pinjockey Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 You can forget the pay the bills excuse since he was drafted in April 2000 and the charges are for crimes committed starting June 2000. He fucked up, because he is an idiot. Plain and simple.

Oh yeah...That little "unrealistic" ESPN show last fall...

See, I am making the assumption that he was doing it before that and just continued on afterward. Another Article On It (don't know if any of the info is new/different)
MarvinisaLunatic Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 Unless theres some sort of miracle, Im figuring on the NFL Suspending Jamal for the whole year based on what I've been hearing. Musa Smith to the rescue!
Dr. Tom Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 Sigh. This certainly isn't what we needed. JAMAL~! was supposed to be the cornerstone of the Ravens' charge to the playoffs this year. Now, even if he manages to avoid jail time, many sources say the league will sit him down for a year anyway. That leaves the Ravens with CHester Taylor, Musa Smith, and a lot of cap room. If he's guilty, then fuck him, and I hope he rots in jail.

MarvinisaLunatic Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 I actually heard a rumor a couple seconds ago about the Ravens possibly trying to 1 up the Redskins by trading Chris McAlister to the Broncos for Portis although I question it because I keep hearing that Portis for Bailey is a done deal. McAlister got tagged as a Franchise player and will make at least 7 million and is probably just as good if not better than Bailey. But honestly, I doubt it will happen since theres no way to know by the draft whether Jamal will get a suspension or not and trading for Portis and Jamal not getting suspended would be insane.

That'd be a LEGIT fucking backfield, though. If only one of them could block...
