Guest wrestlingbs Report post Posted February 27, 2004 A Cruiserweight Battle Royale could be the ultimate disrespect for the Division. Why? 'cuse it would be a fun match to watch?
Molotov The Bear 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2004 Where is the information coming from that Chavo won't be in the match, I though Heyman said whoever wins it would be the champion? I was pretty tired though, maybe I heard him wrong. Winner of the battle royal faces the current champion later in the show. From JHawks SD report... but before he can springboard in, out comes Heyman (with Tajiri and company) to cancel the match after 12:42. ***1/4 Apparently there's no Japanese representation in this match, and to prevent a racial discrimination lawsuit, Chavo Jr. will not defend the cruiserweight title against anybody in the ring. Instead, WrestleMania will see the first ever Cruiserweight Open where any cruiserweight is eligible to compete. And the winner of that elimination match is the Cruiserweight Champion. I'm 99.9% that JHawk is wrong. The winner goes on to face Chavo. From 411's report... And Paul’s out to cancel the match?! The hell?? Paul was apparently threatened with a lawsuit based on racial discrimination (thanks to no Japanese reputation in the match), so Paul reached an out-of-court settlement. Chavito Gurrero will defend the WWE Cruiserweight Title at WrestleMania in the first ever Cruiserweight Open Elimination match. The last man left wins the Cruiserweight belt. 1wrestling's... Mysterio back in with the 619 on Nunzio. Mysterio is about to springboard in when Heyman comes out and stops the match. It has come to his attention that there are no Japanese representatives in the match and, to avoid a lawsuit, he has reaches an out-of-court settlement. Chavo Jr. will not defend the title against anyone in the match at Wrestlemania. He will defend it against ANY cruiserweight in a Crusierweight Elimination match. Mysterio flies over the top onto Tajiri. Kidman shoves Heyman down. And I also watched the show and heard him say it with my own ears.

Scroby 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2004 QUOTE (-iB- @ Feb 27 2004, 01:43 AM) A Cruiserweight Battle Royale could be the ultimate disrespect for the Division. Why? 'cuse it would be a fun match to watch? How? They'll be no high flying moves till maybe the last 5 are in there. Its going to be a short match most likely due to its over the top battle royal. Hopefully It'll be longer than the gimmick battle royal. Plus all the focus on that match will be on Chavo and Rey and no one else.

notJames 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2004 I thought it was more of a big melee where everyone is in at once. They can definitely have high flying moves all over the place, since it's not battle royal elimination rules. I foresee the quintessential train wreck spot where each wrestler ends up doing a high-flying manouever to the outside, one after the other. And Shannon Moore will be the first one pinned. Or maybe Funaki. I also think we might see Spike Dudley cross over to SD! as a surprise entrant. Not that I want it to happen, but it's a possibility. Unless he's injured, of course. Guest Adrian 3:16 Report post Posted February 27, 2004 I would so mark out if Ultimo won this and went on to beat Chavo. I'm not holding my breath for that one though...
Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted February 28, 2004 This could be Paul London's big chance. He has a good look, and can cut a good promo. (compared to most of the CW roster)

Jebus 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2004 I doubt so many people (including myself) heard wrong... Anyway, Chavo is in the match according to Wrestlemania.com
SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2004 Truth is not based on number of believers. The night of the taping I could've swore he said the winner would face Chavo, but they might've edited that part out. There's only ONE WAY to settle this: I'm going right now and checking the tape. Detective Comics 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2004 Look at the risks Paul London has taken in front of 500 fans. Could you imagine what he would do in front of the entire world?!
SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2004 After checking the tape, I can't tell you anything. My Direct TV froze up right in the middle of the annoucement, so can't tell you. What I did hear was pretty ambiguous, though. From http://smackdown.wwe.com/results/022604/results.html In lieu of a one on one Cruiserweight Championship Match at WrestleMania, there will be an Open Cruiserweight Elimination Match where Chavo Guerrero will defend the Championship against any Cruiserweight who seeks entry. The winner of the Elimination Match will walk out as Cruiserweight Champion. Not exactly what Heyman said, but doesn't contradict him, either.
Ultimo Dugas 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2004 My prediction is Ultimo will be in this match and do fairly ok (it seems like they have him win matches on SD! all the time) and then he will ask for his release.
Guest Your Olympic Hero Report post Posted February 28, 2004 Rey is obviously the favorite to win, barring any Jeff Hardy return bullshit. I say have Tajiri and his cronies gang up on Rey to eliminate him, then have Paul London win the thing, last eliminating Tajiri. He could go on to coming really close to beating Chavo, but lose due to cheating or something. That would build another strong face cruiserweight to challenge Chavo, other than Rey. The mark in me wants Ultimo Dragon to win the battle royal and the title. But if I had to bet my money on WWE logic, Rey will take the match and maybe the belt. Guest Jimbo Report post Posted February 28, 2004 They better have some creative ways to knock these people out because some of the guys in this match aren't much taller than the top ring rope and it might get preeeeetty ugly if they keep trying to knock people over. :-/
Enigma 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2004 This is probably going to be a battle royal where pinfalls and submissions eliminate people as opposed to going over the top rope, since cruiserweights need to use the top rope for some of their spots. Heh, I remember the Battlebowl at Slamboree '96 and all of a sudden DDP started pinning people and eliminating them. I was so confused I thought my brain was going to explode. Guest Real F'n Show Report post Posted February 28, 2004 Here's what I say. Have these 10 guys go at it: 1) Akio 2) Paul London 3) Tajiri 4) Nunzio 5) Jamie Noble 6) Funaki 7) Shannon Moore 8) Ultimo Dragon 9) Billy Kidman 10) Rey Mysterio Have the last 3 be Rey, Tajiri, and Ultimo. Then have Tajiri's guys cause Tajiri to eliminate Rey. Have Ultimo go over Tajiri, and then Chavo hits the ring. Back and forth match, and have Dragon pick up the win. I think that would work good. Guest Choken One Report post Posted February 28, 2004 So Is this gonna be a 10 Man Dance or a Gauntlet type deal?
Michrome 0 Report post Posted February 29, 2004 My guess is they're doing it Tory style, which means 10 men at once, with pure insanity, tons of dives, tons of action, with pinfall eliminations. It would be stupid to blow the Rey big win over Chavo here, I'd like to see them put over someone else.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted February 29, 2004 I agree... I believe they should have Kurt And the Chavos KILL Rey Rey next week, injuring his Knee... It makes Angle even more vicious and evil...gives Another arc to the Chavo/Rey angle and it's an EASY excuse to job Mysterio and put someone else through... Put London as the HOLY SHIT upset winner and that could quickly give London/Tajiri a program and Rey/Chavo will run as well, since the CW title really isn't required. J.B. Buzzkill 0 Report post Posted February 29, 2004 Tory runs these, and they are anything but clusterfucks. They're a lot of fun. They are fun, but I seriously think the WWE's version will be a clusterfuck. But if they did the chopfest spot, with Sakoda in the role of Don Fujii, I'd mark out. Guest Choken One Report post Posted February 29, 2004 Knowing WWE...It'll be like a rumble...8 will "brawl" on the corners as Two of them flop around and they'll alternate...
Scroby 0 Report post Posted February 29, 2004 Lets just hope we won't have a repeat of that one rumble where that luchadore decied to jump off the turnbuckle onto the floor. I forget his name and the year of the rumble through. I think it was the return of Jake Roberts one.
Guest Jimbo Report post Posted February 29, 2004 Knowing WWE...It'll be like a rumble...8 will "brawl" on the corners as Two of them flop around and they'll alternate... Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of, they will clear out half the ring so a few people can fly around...Tajiri can do his handpring thing, Rey and the 619, etc.

Since this is a CW match where top rope moves are standard, it won't be in effect, it's pretty clear this is a Elimination match since Heyman himself said it. vermilion 0 Report post Posted March 1, 2004 Just to clear this up for sure.........it's not a Battle Royal, Chavo is in it, and the winner is the champ. From Wrestlemania.com: Open Cruiserweight Elimination Match Just days after Mr. McMahon announced three blockbuster WrestleMania matches, Paul Heyman fired back with a WrestleMania mega-match of his own. According to the SmackDown! General Manager, Chavo Guerrero will defend his Cruiserweight Championship against any cruiserweight willing to participate in an Open Cruiserweight Elimination Match. Considering the fact that many of the participants may be a mystery to Chavo, this will undoubtedly be a near impossible hill for him to climb. Can Chavo leave Madison Square Garden with the belt? Guest Deviant Report post Posted March 1, 2004 As long as Paul London's in there, I'm happy. Also, I'd like that idea of someone like Hurricane being in it due to it being "open to any cruiserweight".
Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted March 1, 2004 What they should do is have in the battle royal the winner gets to face the Champ later that night. so we get the showing of the cruisers early and then the true Cruiserweight match later.
