Potential Problem for Somebody about Something

Recommended Posts

National Journal has released its annual study of Congressional voting records:

And John Kerry is #1. More liberal than Ted Kennedy. More liberal than Hillary Clinton.

Seeing as how liberals do not win elections, this could end up being a problem.

MORE than Ted Kennedy???

That can't be possible.

That's what the Journal is stating.

Bush is an incumbent and Kerry might be a bigger charisma vortex (kudos to Dr. Tom for that gem) than Gore. That is a problem for John.

Huh. People have been calling Ted Kennedy "the conservative senator from Massachusetts" for a while now.

Kerry doesn't get mentioned that much, that I notice (probably because he is, possibly, the most boring man on Earth not involved in the world of accounting).

Heck, Edwards is #4 in the liberal list, so it's not like mainstream is an option.

As an accountant, this offended me.

On topic, I've felt that Edwards was very moderate. Maybe I need to look at his voting record a bit more, but his stances on most issues are not that far left.

Honestly, when compared to Dean, Kucinich, and Sharpton --- it's hard to not look moderate.

And Mike, can you spare a link?

Well, www.scrappleface.com is always gold. And, www.satirewire.com was excellent until they stopped updating it. The story on the Viagra spill in Lake Michigan was hilarious.

But I assume you want a link to the story.

As for the Journal, it is a subscription-only site, but the home page (www.nationaljournal.com) mentions the story. You don't get the full study without subscribing.

Hold on a second. Kerry backs a state marriage amendment and is the most liberal guy in congress?

WHAT?

Words and actions aren't the same thing.

WHAT?

The former is a matter of record and so is the latter. These are facts, not spin, not allegations, not smears, and not distortions. He's said the first himself and his votes and ratings from liberal groups prove the second. Where precisely do you see a problem? In the inconsistency? Do you recall that we're discussing John Kerry?

Now don't you feel silly?

I still think it's an election year thing.

Pelosi, I'd believe. Kerry, probably not.

Why would National Journal lie?

Is Bill Schnieder of CNN (who, you know, helped found the review system) a raging Republican?

I never even heard of the National Journal before this thread, FYI. And if I did, I don't remember it.

I'm not saying that Kerry ISN'T some raging liberal, I'm saying that it suprises me that he's ranked higher than some other prominent names.

This National Journal actually seems quite interesting and the fact that Bill Shneider is a contributing editor boosts its credibility (imo, Shneider is the best political commentator on television period). I may just subscribe to it, thanks for the tip Mike.

That is shocking - that Kerry actually showed up to vote on something.

He hasn't been doing that for several MONTHS now....

Didnt George HW Bush honor Ted Kennedy recently with some kind of award?

I want to mention that this was actually Kerry's reply at a debate. He effectively claimed that he was being accused of casting liberal votes in votes where he actually didn't vote at all.

I'm not going to doubt the Journal, but I doubt mainstream voters read it and care.

Bah, Uncle Ted is probably loaded when it comes time to vote so he's probably been "disenfranchised" a few times if you ask me...

Ted Kennedy: Good Senator, but a bad date, if you catch my drift...

In all seriousness, though: MA knows Kerry is the more liberal of the two. And we like it that way.

Kerry is a pretty cool guy to meet face-to-face. Doesn't ALWAYS talk politics at public events, unlike everyone's favorite governor...

Mitt Romney. You thought you met a personality vortex? You ain't seen NOTHING yet.

And gee, he's a guy some conservatives have been naming to replace Cheney as VP for this year. Amazing.

And your point is?...

There was no point to it really... I just heard something about it on Fox news recently about an award that H-Dubyah created and gave to Teddy in recognition for being a great senator or something like that.
