Modifying Sports Jerseys.....

Are there places that can remove a name off of a jersey and put another on? I have a #24 Bailey jersey and assuming Shawn Springs uses #24 as a Redskin, then I would like to do this process rather then the options of buying a new jersey, or retiring the current jersey to the back of the closet.

I would imagine some of the local sport shops could do it if they sell plain jersey's for a small fee.

How is it attached? Some jerseys have a piece of fabric that the letters are sewn onto and that's sewn to the jersey. If that's the case, it would be relatively simple. If the letters are sewn directly onto the jersey then it would be a hell of a lot more work and you'd likely have an impression of those letters left behind. Either way, just go to any sports shop that does jerseys and ask them. They'll either do it or advise you where to go.

I'd say leave it as is ... I still sport my Bourque & Belanger Bruins sweaters, and the Bird Celtics jersey, and they've all been gone for years. (and Belanger was nothing more than a short-time goon). To quote the old cliche, it's the name on the front, not the name on the back, that counts

Little piece of advice from Experience. I had an old NY Rangers jersey with Verbeek on the back. I wanted to have his name taken off, and Holik put on. I got to Gerry Cosby at MSG to see how much it would cost to have done they say like $6 a letter taken off and $7 a letter to put on. But they say to save yourself some money, you can take the letters off yourself, it just takes some patience. So I go home and attempt to do this. Fuckin letters were not only sewn on but also glued. SO it's back to Cosby I go, where the bastards charge me to take the name off, put the name on, and also $10 for a blank nameplate so it doesn't look retarded. Apparently when you take the letters off, with them being sewn on, taking the threads out leaves little holes in the jersey.

 

But anyway back to the original question, any sporting goods store that sells jerseys should be able to do it. If you have a hockey goods store near you they're a good place to start.
