3/11 Smackdown rating

"Smackdown delivered a 3.1 rating last night, its lowest in a long time. That's hardly a bright sign leading into Wrestlemania."

This shows me two things:

-Austin as a significant ratings draw = garbage. He was advertised for the show and it was centered around him.

-The whole Lesnar situation being a way to draw positive attention to WWE and Mania = even more garbage. If less people are watching the shows leading up to the PPV even after the release of this news, how is it supposed to get more Mania buys?

weren't many UPN stations preempted due to College Basketball games?

Actually this doesn't surprise me since this has happened every year on this particular week.

I remember everyone panicking after Smackdown got a 3.9 in 2001, because it was the first time the show had done under a 4 on a non holiday week.

They pulled out all the stops to advertise WM20. It better earn a profit.

Honestly, I don't think SD's rating is indicative of WM's buyrate. The WWE treats SD like a second class show, and on top of that more casual fans watch "the biggest PPV of the year" than the buildup show.
