Swift Terror

New poll -- contempt for U.S. growing

Recommended Posts

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/artic...-2004Mar16.html

When HASN'T the rest of the world hated America? Maybe for about 20 minutes after WWII.

I have but one response to the rest of the world, courtesy of one Randy Newman:

No one likes us

I don't know why.

We may not be perfect

But heaven knows we try.

But all around even our old friends put us down.

Let's drop the big one and see what happens.

We give them money

But are they grateful?

No they're spiteful

And they're hateful.

They don't respect us so let's surprise them;

We'll drop the big one and pulverize them.

Now Asia's crowded

And Europe's too old.

Africa's far too hot,

And Canada's too cold.

And South America stole our name.

Let's drop the big one; there'll be no one left to blame us.

Bridge:

We'll save Australia;

Don't wanna hurt no kangaroo.

We'll build an all-American amusement park there;

They've got surfing, too.

Well, boom goes London,

And boom Paris.

More room for you

And more room for me.

And every city the whole world round

Will just be another American town.

Oh, how peaceful it'll be;

We'll set everybody free;

You'll have Japanese kimonos, baby,

There'll be Italian shoes for me.

They all hate us anyhow,

So let's drop the big one now.

Let's drop the big one now.

Let's be more precise here:

Europe is the 16 year old little turd who hates their parents, even though their parents made their lives easy.

Europe is, presently, pitching quite the little hissy fit because they are becoming INCREASINGLY irrelevant.

-=Mike

...Europeans want Kerry as President --- funny, I doubt they have OUR interests at heart

That song sounds terrible, unless it's a poem of some kind. Randy Newman deserves a punch in the face.

I couldn't care less as to whether people hate America. Will they ever do anything about it? Probably not. Now if America hates YOU, then we have a problem...

I think you all overestimate how much time people with ordinary everyday lives around the world devote to thinking about America, much less 'hating' it. Some of you act like you're obsessed with believing they do and seem to actually want to believe you're 'hated' so you can 'respond' with disdain to 'them' on an internet wrestling message board, whatever floats your boat I suppose. The fact is this mass hatred/resentment of America thing doesn't actually exist to the extent you seem to believe/want to believe, anti-Americanism may be rife among the left in Europe but as far as ordinary people are concerned (lets call them non-politicians) there's shockingly little outside of the usual banter/stereotypes which all nations have to endure a part of. On that note its probably fair to say American sport suffers more passionate derision than its foreign policy does if you held a 'lets discuss America' seminar in Western Europe, the attendance probably wouldn't be too hot either.

I accept that people in Eurpoe and around the world do not spend most of their day thinking about 'hating' America, of course they don't. But when they are asked what they think, they normally respond with a negative attitude, as this poll would appear to show. There is nothing obsessive about commenting on their response.

Well, I, for one, could give two shits about what the rest of the world thinks about us.

Oh, and congrats on bringing back that Avatar -- no matter how many mean names we call each other, that little fuzzy thing is so cute...
