Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2004 Well, I've gone 8-4 since restarting my Dynasty mode up, so I haven't lost a step in playing the game. However, the weirdest thing happened. The Toronto Blue Jays traded away Carlos Delgado for Andruw Jones. I'm just shocked that the Atlanta Braves would give up Jones for Delgado, especially considering Delgado's been performing sub-par in my Dynasty.
KingPK 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2004 Pro is easy fellas. No props. Oh, and I think I'll re-buy this game. If you don't remember, I sold it and was gonna buy a video card and the game for the pc, but since I'm going in Seattle in August, I need to save for that, and not buy a $300 video card .. sooo .. I'll be re-buying MVP on Friday most likely. It isn't hard at all. Usually the second step up from rookie in most games is a little difficult, but it isn't at all in MVP. After the All-Star break I'm going to switch to all-star mode. Turn off the pitching aids (hot/cold zones and the strike zone), and that will up the difficulty a bit, since you won't have anything to help you. I enjoy the game even more now that I did that and fiddled with the sliders a bit.

The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2004 Okay, Red Sox vs. Cubs. Bottom of the 8th with two men out and Boston up by three runs. Barrett is up, is intentionally walked by Schilling to bring up Mark Prior. Prior hits a grand slam to bring the Cubs up by one run, from there it was just a formality. EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2004 Doug Glanville on second, one out, Marlon Byrd at bat. Byrd hits a pop fly foul near the third base dugout. Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted May 10, 2004 I see. Since I have a good lineup (Current Reds lineup), and young, not to great pitching, I keep 12 bullpen pitchers. Yeah, the ol' Miley way. It's worked so far, I also have 3 catchers on my bench, but one of them can play first, and is a switch hitter, so he's used quite often. [Javier Valentin]. I am getting alittle error on Juan Castro though. I want to give him spot starts every now and then, but the only way I can is to go into team management before the game. He isn't showing up on the Confirm Lineup screen. Some people at OS is having the same problem with certain players.

Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted May 10, 2004 I just had my best game ever on MVP. Lidle pitched one very good game for me, and was even in the 45% mark in the 7th, but finished the inning easily. It was a 1-1 tie when he came out. Todd Jones came in had a 1-2-3 8th, but got into trouble, and left with men on 2nd and 3rd in the 9th. Wagner got out of the inning, but San Fran scored 1 run on a sac fly. They had a 2-1 lead. Bottom of the 9th, Nen comes in to close the books. Gets Kearns and Griffey, but leaves a mistake ball over the plate and Adam Dunn DRILLED it to tie the game! Nen settles down and gets Casey to ground out. After that, ups and downs, all the way to the 16th inning. I still had 1 more bullpen pitcher in John Reidling, and I was planning on using him in the 17th - but didn't need to. The Giants had ran out of pen pitchers, as you can see from the box score below. They used Tomko, Williams, Rueter, and Foppert - all very shortly, but nonetheless - they used them. Foppert came in, and understandablely so - he was the last one used. He had about 56% left in him, and it proved to be costly. He didn't record one out. Ryan Freel lead off the 16th with a TRIPLE in the gap. Griffey came up, and got on with an infield single (I ran on contact, they threw home, and I somehow got back to 3rd base - Griffey reached 1st). Then, Austin Kearns came up - drilled the 1st pitch he saw to center field for the game winning RBI single. Awesome game. My bullpen, especially Matthews, did a great job. I contained Bonds, and that was really the #1 factor. He grounded into 2 double plays. Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2004 (edited) I want to cry. I really do. I had my best pitcher, Chris Morris, up pitching. He goes up and holds my opponents to 2 fucking runs the whole game. I managed to get a run in like the bottom of the sixth. You think I can capitalize on that inning? Or perhaps the fact that Chris Morris went a full nine innings and gave up three full hits in the top of the ninth, only to get every single batter after the bases were loaded to hit directly to Cabrera so that Cabrera could throw it to home to get the forced out? Dammit. I want to cry. This guy is my best pitcher on my staff (geez, I wonder why) and yet my team performs sub-par in every single one of his games. It makes me sick at this fact. Absolutely sick. I'm so pissed at losing that last game. I should've won it. Yet I lost. Edit: Just to add to how fuck up this is. Chris Morris IP - 66.2 (2nd, best is Halladay of TOR who's got 70.2) ERA - 2.03 (11t, best is M. Clement of CHC who's got a 1.19) AVG - .214 (13th, best is Lohse of MIN who's got .197) SO - 54 (6th, best is B. Zito of OAK with 59) BB - 0 (Tied for 1st with pretty much the rest of my starting staff, I don't walk) CG - 6 (1st) I mean, the guy is my fucking best pitcher, putting up stats that would drive anyone insane, and yet I can't win the for the guy. It's pretty damn sad. Edited May 11, 2004 by Lightning Flik
MrRant 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2004 Yeah that happens to be me as well. Either I can't hit anything for him or I am ahead barely on a run or two and bring in my relief who are normally solid and get blown the fuck up.
Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2004 (edited) Well it pisses me off. All of my starts have ERAs of 2. I mean, I'm now 8-5 since restarting, and I'm playing like shit since getting back into this. My starting pitchers have been awesome for me, but the relief and my hitting has been absolutely horrid. I'm half tempted to trade a player (I'm thinking Everett as the bastard isn't doing me a thing) for some rookies or something. It is absolutely brutal lately with how badly I'm playing. Edit: Speak of the devil. Everett says that his current contract has him questioning his motivations. He's so fucking traded. Along with Batista and Chavez. I'm calling up James. Fuck this shit. Well, trade done. I got a little more cash out of the deal, also signed James up for a second season for exactly the same contract, so bonus there. Happy times. Mole 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2004 I just turned off the strike zone and the hot/cold marks. The game was a lot more challenging, it was the first time I lost a game in a shut-out, 4-0. I even had Burnett pitching, but he gave up 3 runs by the 6th so I pulled him for Embree who pitched really well. EDIT: Some how, my bank went from 2,000 to 192 and I have no idea how. And one of the things I was doing this season was trading some players so I could free up my bank and have more money for next season. So I traded Pettitte for Weaver on the Dodgers, who I actually just beat in the last game. We'll see if the trade was smart, later on.
Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2004 Very interesting stuff. I traded Carl Everett, Tony Batista and Endy Chavez away for Wes Helms. Since I have, I've gone 5-0. In that times, Wes Helms has been kicking ass hitting like 5 homers and just hitting like a lot. So I think I got the better of the deal. Plus the rest of my team is playing like gravy, so perhaps the bastard named Carl Everett really was bringing my team down.
Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2004 BTW, if you get people with smiles faces, they'll play a lot better than your guys with faces. I just propped my AAA God, Edward James onto my MLB team and he's sucked pretty badly. I offered him a new contract to be a CF backup (this way he'd sign for dual years) and he's complaining about his time he's had in the majors. Other than that, I'm happy with winning 13 in a row! And not like blowouts, but I'm winning a ton of a games and now own the league. My last one was a hard fought 1-0 win against the Cincy Reds in which I only scored on a pick off attempt to third. It's been fun winning so many games.
Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2004 Ok... Another weird trade was made in my Dynasty of the Montreal Expos. The St. Louis Cardinals traded away 3B Scott Rolen for ... Get this: OF Sammy Sosa of the Chicago Cubs Orlando Cabrera (89H, .320 AVG, 26HR, 67RBI, .329OBP, and .709SLG) is the best player in the MLB, and he's a free agent after this season as I doubt I can internally free up enough cash to resign him (he wants almost 3000, and I've only got about 600 of that currently free). Problem is, I'm 56-14 and have a great shot at making the playoffs, so I don't know if I want to trade Cabrera away before the deadline and get some players/prospects for the future or keep him and make a run at the WS. What should I do?
KingPK 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2004 Interleague play is kicking my ASS. Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted May 17, 2004 My ML Roster for the Red Sox looks as such Line-up: CF Juan Pierre SS Nomar LF Manny 1B Richie Sexon DH Ortiz 2B Vidro LF Trot 3B Mueller C Tek Bench - Kapler, Burks, Reese, Bellhorn, Mirabelli Rotation: Pedro Wakefield Schilling Livian Hernandez Kim Bullpen: Brandon Puffer, Embree, Mota, Williamson, Malaska, Foulke All the players were recieved in fair deals. I also loaded up my minor leagues with talent. I got Edwin Jackson, Bronson Arroyo, Pat Strange, Khalil Greene, Gerald Laird, and Freddy Sanchez. I'm not going to be able to resign everybody on my ML Roster but I figure I can live with giving up Pedro, Hernandez, and Nomar to FA with what I have in the minors. I also play at the highest difficulty so I'm only in first by 3.5games over the Devil Rays(The Yankees are in 4th. I laugh at them)
KingPK 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2004 I let Pedro go as well. The Angels signed him a few weeks into the 2005 season, and last I checked, he's having a decidedly mediocre season. I'm on a 6 game losing streak, so the Rays have cut the gap in the standings to 5 games.

Like trading Vidro for a good 2B prospect and other prospects might allow you to keep Livian Hernandez if you wanted to. I'd still have to trade away some people. I don't mind trading away Hernandez as he isn't my best pitcher, that belongs to Zach Day (11-1 in 15 appearances). So I'm not really worried about pitching too much. That doesn't say much when almost all of my starters have 7+ wins. Only Day and Morris (created player, who is 10-4) are over 10 wins and probably the best pitchers I have, and both have been signed and are staying for some more seasons. Besides, probably everyone on there will do sub-par afterward this season anyways. Well, hopefully I win the World Series. It would be a nice start to my Dynasty if I do. Maybe I'll even get a bonus to my cash flow. Edit: Remember the Cardinals? Well apparently, they had a good strategy in giving up Rolens. They've expressed interest in trading Sammy Sosa to me. Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted May 18, 2004 Just had the coolest thing happen. I'm playing against the Phillies and their starting pitcher is Kevin Millwood. Well, he makes a single pitch and of course, I always wiff on the first pitch of a game. Next thing I know, Millwood gets immediately replaced. It took me half the game to realize he probably was injuried. And it turns out that this is correct. He seperated his shoulder and is gone for 52 days. Awesome stuff.
