Ed Wood Caulfield 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2004 I just got Sonic Heroes for the Gamecube last Saturday, and I've spent the past week playing it. And I have to say, that this is the hardest Sonic game I've ever played. Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 were much easier than this game. The game is divided into 4 teams: Team Sonic, Team Dark, Team Rose, and Team Chaotix, each team has 14 levels, and all are long and hard. Team Chaotix, especially, is the hardest. I've spent 30-50 minutes completing just one level. And the final boss for Team Chaotix is the toughest boss I've ever played against. I wanted to smash my gamecube into pieces, since it was so frustrating. Took me 5 hours, but I actually defeated him. But the most aganozing and irritating part of the game are the Special Challenge Stages where you have to get all 7 Chaos Emeralds in order to move onto the final boss of the game. Damnit, is that part really hard. Challenge 3 is the toughest. I just cannot get the Emerald no matter how hard I try. I have yet to complete that one, and even though I haven't finished the game yet, I get the feeling that the Special Challenge stages will be the hardest to win, more so than the final boss. But, damn, this game is tough to beat. Hardest Sonic The Hedgehog game ever. Has anyone else played Sonic Heroes yet? Or has actually finished the game? And if so, how long did it take you to complete Special Challenge Act 3 and how long did it take you to get all 7 Chaos Emeralds?

The crime - After 20 minutes of play, UYI throws controller against wall, kicks PS2 and storms off looking for a neck to break out of frustration. Anya 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2004 I played the demo and thought it was crap. I couldn't even finish it. It was just so stale and boring. It felt really shoddy too, bad camera and I just fell off the stage at one point.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2004 I've heard the PS2 version is bad--I haven't played the other ones yet, though. Harder than Sonic 2 Game Gear?
Aero 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2004 Harder than Sonic 2 Game Gear? Was that the one with the glider in the second world? If so, that was definitely one of the harder Sonics.
Renegade 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2004 Sonic hereos sucks anyway so why bother? I mean who the hell wants to play as big the cat and all that crap? I play sonic games to play as sonic. Playing as knuckles or tails is still pushing it imo. Btw your are insane if you think Sonic heroes is harder than Sonic 2 for the gamegear.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2004 Yes, no one wants to play as Big. Although I liked the Chaotix crew. A bit of extra tweaking would have made it a really good game. Mighty = Sonic in disguise!

I got the hang of it after like ten tries heh. I agree, very hard but fun.
Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2004 I've enjoyed it. I'm currently at Rail Canyon. The casino/pinball levels are awesome and haven't been seen since... I don't know. Sonic 2?
Ed Wood Caulfield 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2004 Yes, no one wants to play as Big. Although I liked the Chaotix crew. A bit of extra tweaking would have made it a really good game. Mighty = Sonic in disguise! Speaking of Big, did anyone else want to break their Dreamcast into pieces during Big's Hard-As-Hell levels in Sonic Adventure? How many tries did you have before you finally got the stupid frog in all those levels? I was cursing at my T.V. trying to get that damn frog and that went on for 4-5 hours. Infact, I just stopped playing the game altogether for 8 months since I couldn't finish the Big levels no matter how hard I tried. Godamn, did Big's levels in Sonic Adventure suck. Btw, I actually did finally pass the Special Emerald Challenges today. Took me 6 hours to do all 7, but I finally did it. And I've finished Team Chaotix's and Team Rose's stories (Team Rose is the easiest), and all I got left is Team Sonic and Team Dark's and then I head into the final boss for the game. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2004 The casino/pinball levels are awesome and haven't been seen since... I don't know. Sonic 2? Carnival Night in Sonic 3 was much in the same vein, I'm almost positive either Adventure 1 or 2 had a Casino/pinball level. Also, there were similar levels in the Advance games, and there's a knockoff of Casino Night in Sonic Pocket Adventure. Speaking of Big, did anyone else want to break their Dreamcast into pieces during Big's Hard-As-Hell levels in Sonic Adventure? Really, really annoying. I did finally beat them all, and got to play as Super Sonic. It's ALMOST worth it.
Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2004 I'm almost positive either Adventure 1 or 2 had a Casino/pinball level. Adventure 1 had a casino area that gave you a ring for doing well enough in either of the two pinball games. One was themed to Sonic, and one was themed to NiGHTS. It was lame though and nowhere near Casinopolis. This one is more like that. Running and jumping combined with pinball. Stage 2 adds bingo boards (make a bingo for rings) and is easier than hell to fall off of. I'm currently in the second half of Rail Canyon, and keep dying at one point where the camera spins around your characters like crazy and you get confused and can't tell if you should push forwards or backwards to make your characters keep moving and then you fall. Obviously, I push the stick in the wrong direction. I wish they could have added second stick camera control, though. The game seems to be configured for Dreamcast controllers, and Xbox comes closest to bringing back that feel, but the poor second stick just stays there unused while the R and L triggers move the camera around. Ed Wood Caulfield 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2004 I actually thought the Super Sonic level in Sonic Adventure was excellent. It made passing the hard-as-hell Big levels worth it. Course, it took me 8 hours to actually beat Perfect Chaos, but it felt satisfying as I had been playing the game over the course of several spurts during a year and a half period and so it felt good to finally see it completed. Plus, I really enjoyed the cinematic sequences throughout the Super Sonic level. The scene where Perfect Chaos destroys Station Square leaving it in ruins is pretty cool and shows some great graphics, IMO. And did anyone else feel that Sonic Adventure 2 was TOO easy? I finished the game in only 1 week. Or was that just me?
Use Your Illusion 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2004 I briefly played both Sonic Adventure games at my friends place, back in the years of their original release, and found the games to be way too 'constricting', for want of a better term. They just don't feel like Sonic games. Yes, you can move fast, but the freedom is just not there, which is what made the Megadrive/Genesis games so great. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2004 Yeah, I loved the Super Sonic level, too, and wish he was playable in the rest of the game. "And did anyone else feel that Sonic Adventure 2 was TOO easy? I finished the game in only 1 week. Or was that just me?" Well, it's pretty easy up until the Last Side, which is trickier if you suck with certain characters. The emblems were hard to get sometimes, though.

Hell, even the Sonic Advance games aren't all that hot. Yeah, they're a fun diversion, but can't match up to the classic games. Sonic Pocket Adventure is still the best portable Sonic, as far as I'm concerned. That's mainly because it's basically the Genesis Sonic 2, although with its fair share of unique qualities. Ed Wood Caulfield 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2004 The only part I hate about Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 besides Big's levels, are Knuckles levels. I detest those with a passion. I hated finding the missing pieces of the Chaos Emeralds. And the detector was irritating sometimes. I felt like screaming "Where the FUCK are the Emeralds?!!!" several times during those levels. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2004 I don't get the hate for Knux's levels. They were fine...in SA1. However, for some reason in SA2 you have to find them IN ORDER, which makes absolutely no sense. I spent a hell of a long time trying to get those A emblems in Pumpkin Hill. Except for PH, Knuck's levels weren't that bad. Overall, though, SA2 was still too little of a Sonic game for my preferences.

Ed Wood Caulfield 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2004 The hardest Knuckles level in Sonic Adventure 2 was the outer space one. That one was a bitch to complete. The anti-gravity part of the level was REALLY annoying and made for a tough, tough level. I spent 45 minutes looking for the three Emerald pieces the first time I played it, and, since I've played it more than once since then, I'm now down to 15 minutes. Still, that level is the hardest and my least favorite out of the entire game. Sonic Adventure 2, overall, was fun. Not as fun as Sonic Adventure, but a hell of alot more easier. Finishing the whole game in a week was pretty sweet. And there were no Big The Cat fishing levels, so that was another plus. I also really liked the Shadow character and was disappointed when he died at the end. I always get goosebumps during the ending sequence when I won the game for some reason. And the music for both games were catchy as hell.
Guest Smues Report post Posted March 26, 2004 Knuckles wasn't too bad in SA1 although I do remember getting annoyed. But in SA2 it was terrible, and I think a big factor in that was the music. I remember wanting to pull my hair out after 30 minutes in Pumpkin Hill or the Aquatic Mines. Thank god for a mute button and winamp.

Shadow didn't necessarily die, BTW. They left it ambiguous in case they wanted to bring him back, and isn't he in Heroes?

Yeah, the outer space level was really annoying too, but I didn't mind it as much as Pumpkin Hill. True. It was defintley not easy. Not one of my favorites too. Yes, no Big the Cat, except in situations like being drowned at the bottom of a pool. Sega knows we hated Big, too. Let us hope that there will never be anymore Big The Cat fishing levels ever again! Shadow didn't necessarily die, BTW. They left it ambiguous in case they wanted to bring him back, and isn't he in Heroes? Yup. He is in Sonic Heroes. And to me, it looked like he died in Sonic Adventure 2, but they never actually said he was dead, so it makes sense that he is back.

SA1 was just too boring for its own good and it never needed the whole adventure element since all you did was hop on the train to the ruins and back, again and again. Sonic Adventure 2 is the best of the 3d sonics since it cuts out alot of the crap in the first. Levels were actually interesting and clear cut unlike SA1. Better bosses (no chaos version 1.22344123). Less filler characters to choose from (no big, amy, whatever the hell the robot was called). A final level actually fitting for Super sonic. Even though its a minor issue, the story in 2 stands head and shoulders above the first ("they only took the bad power out of the chaos emeralds!") Controls became less glitchy (sonic in particular). Fun multiplayer Also the music in 2 is a big step up from the first. Granted many of the songs are the same but "live and learn" is a much more exiting and more fitting theme than "open your heart". Also you cant touch city escape.
Renegade 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2004 Where the hell is he from, anyway, and what was ST thinking at the time? Remember we live in the "sonic and friends" era. The more ways that ST can give us sonic games with less sonic in it the better. Don’t be surprised to find daggermouth and boom boom in SA3.
