Guest MikeSC Report post Posted April 5, 2004 A OaO thread for MLB games? Gee, I wonder why I think these are such ridiculous things. Gee, only 162 games per team. This thread shouldn't be TOO friggin' huge around July. Why don't we just do away with these friggin' idiotic OaO threads? -=Mike

Styles 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2004 What an awesome openeing night! That felt like a playoff game. The O's WILL earn respect. New team slogan painted on the clubhouse is: "Got to find a way". And we will! Bold Prediction that I will get flamed for, but I don't care. If I'm right, I'll have my vindication, if I'm wrong, oh well it was a risky prediction, I was wrong. The Red Sox will be a huge disappointment, and will miss the playoffs. In fact the Orioles will finish second, the Red Sox will finish 3rd. Flame me, I don't care, that's my prediction. I will be at game 2 on Tuesday at Camden Yards. Go O's!
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted April 5, 2004 why should NYM get first game at home rights? I propose that if Im the new commish of Baseball..No More REGULAR season games in Japan and that the season starts at 12:15 in Cincy the first Monday of April. THE WAY IT WAS MEANT TO BE. No Games in Japan and No Sunday Night Openers.... The problem is with ratings. No one has cared about Cincy in 15 years. Some would say 30.

I dunno - Outside Ponson, I don't see anyone on the O's pitching staff that I would call "good." - And Ponson WAS getting hit around last night; the Sox just couldn't drive anyone home. - It's game 1 of the season. The only time Opening Day/Night means anything is if all 18 starting players severely injure themselves, and/or a great bench clearing brawl happens. But I agree that Schilling should have started. He was the "Big Signing", and I want to see him pitch, DAMMIT!!

Just not enough to justify sending out the bottom of the barrel Reds to start the season when you can throw the Red Sox out on Sunday Night.
Styles 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2004 - Outside Ponson, I don't see anyone on the O's pitching staff that I would call "good." No offense meant, but you're obviously ignorant of the O's rotation (and that's ok, I a lot of the mainstream is, but you all will soon learn!). We have 3 former first round picks, 3 lefties and all under 27. Most people in the know following the Orioles consider Ponson probably at most the 3rd most talented. Ainsworth, who he was traded for is a can't miss prospect. This guy will be our ace, maybe by the end of the year. Dubose had a an arm injury that kept him out 2 years ago but he was our top pitcher at the end of last season but is probably the most hit or miss of them all, but he was a first roung pick by Oakland who has an eye for talent. Riley was brought up when he was only 20 by Hargrove and nearly had his career ruined, he's back now still at a young 24 and was picked by ESPN.com as one of the suprises for this year. He's a HARD throwing lefty. And then Bedard, who hasn't pitched above AA might be the best of the bunch, and made the rotation based on his flat out awesome performance in the Spring (2-0, 2.04 ERA) and was Gammons third pick for rookie of the year. You might not have heard of many of these guys, but you will. We will be the new Oakland, with young phenoms leading our staff. 3 young lefties? Who else has that in the AL (especially east?) No body! Oh, yeah and Ponson's pretty good too!

Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2004 A Cubs hitter actually coming through when the bases loaded? This clearly isn't 2003. Good stuff and despite being a huge Cubs fan, I was totally expecting Alou to go down swing. And to think, this all started with two down and no one on. As an aside, I think this thread is a bad idea. This thing's gonna get congested real quickly. Can't we just have separate threads for various games?

No body! Oh, yeah and Ponson's pretty good too! Yea, that is what I was trying to point out yesterday in the first page of the thread. The Orioles rotation is more unproven than "bad". Whether they play up to their potential (and do it this season rather than develop over the next few) is unknown, but there is a ton of talent/potential there. Same goes for the O's lineup. There is a LOT more there than just Lopez, Tejada, and Palmeiro. People that are prediciting a definite fourth place finish in the AL East for the O's may end up being surprised. They are A LOT closer to Toronto then people give them credit for and if their young pithcers perform as well as they could, they will end up surprising a lot of teams. I'll also be at the O's game tomorrow....can't wait.

I don't mean to diss the O's when I place them 4th. You have to consider the Blue Jays ranked second last year in runs scored, and they didn't lose a single player in their starting lineup. They have six guys who are still heading towards their prime. On top of that, they solidifyed their rotation. I don't think the Orioles are bad, its just that the Blue Jays are that good. As for the OaO thread, I propose making it the opening day discussion thread. No more OaO threads.

Slayer 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2004 Dammit, just when it looked like the Reds were going to get back into it, the Cubs put out a couple more runs Either this helps send a signal that they can be reckoned with (optimistic), or it's a hiccup on the radar (not so optimistic) And I'm still laughing about Toronto getting slaughtered by the Tigers. I guess they didn't want to start another season on a 10+ game losing streak
