Daredevil movie vs. Hulk movie

Slightly off topic... I've never understood the love for "The Crow".  I guess I never got what was so interesting about an invincible zombie that gets revenge on the bad guys while angsting about his girl.  I don't know.  I saw it and I thought "Bleh".  It was too dark and gothy for my tastes in general and I feel like the whole Brandon Lee thing got it more attention and love than it deserved.

Actually, I saw The Crow without the knowledge that it was the movie Lee died while filming. I knew he died filming a movie, but I didn't know it was The Crow. And I loved it anyways.

 

It's not so much the fact that he returns to avenge his and his loved one's death, as the sequels can point out. It's the fact that the characters are well-crafted and well-portrayed in the film, and the entire "is he doing the right thing?" subplot had to be nixed because Lee died so he couldn't be in the sequels (in the comics, Draven does not return to the grave, but remains a wandering spirit because he wasn't brought back to avenge, but for a more deeper, almost sinister purpose...which is something the sequels and most of the other comics missed out on). The whole atmosphere of the movie was great, and Lee actually showed that he was not JUST a martial arts actor, but also a serious actor.

 

Let's not forgot how cool T-Bird and Top Dollar were. Or even Tin Tin and Fun Boy. Each death had some purpose with the characters, which just made ME mark the fuck out.

Tin Tin, the knife expert, was stabbed to death by Draven. Fun Boy, the morphine addict, was given an overdose by Draven. T-Bird, the lover of his hot rod and explosives, was strapped to his car which was then blown up. Skank, the lackey, was thrown out a five-story window, much like Draven was. Top Dollar? Tossed off the roof of a church and impaled on the horns of a gargoyle.

Personally, I just connected with the characters and the imagery. The movie made you feel for Draven, since he had to try to limit his relationships to continue with his "mission" of revenge.

Yes, worse than the Jaws sequels. At least those had that "so bad they're funny" vibe to 'em. The sequels to The Crow? City Of Angels and Salvation? Fucking terrible.

I agree that the Crow was better than X2, Daredevil, Hulk, and X-men. It's sad to think about how that movie could have shot Lee to the stratosphere had he not died. Still, it's a great movie

The syndie TV series was actually a lot better than the sequels, I thought. I'm not sure which is worse though - The Crow sequels or The Highlander sequels. Both sets were unnecessary and quite bad...

I thought Daredevil was much better. I was quite disappointed with The Hulk, but still I think after re-watching The Hulk I'll like it more but I have no desire to do so for quite some time.

I own both Daredevil and The Hulk. I have watched Daredevil numerous times. I have watched The Hulk once. That about sums it up.

I like Daredevil better as a traditional comic book movie, but the Hulk is definately better acted and it has moire depth. In Daredevil, the dark side was half done(the scene were he says he's not the bad guy) and I would have had him work through his demons first, maybe end the movie with Elektra's death then have him take on Kingpin for the sequel AND END IT THERE

I'd hafto say Hulk is better than Daredevil, but they are both not without their problems.

Daredevil has that lame playground scene and I found all the fights were filmed horribly. Daredevil's saving grace was Colin Farrel's performance as Bullseye.

Hulk just felt a little too long and they tried to put a bit too much story. If they cut out the ending and some of the relationship stuff with his dad (All I could think of was the Nolte mugshot when seeing him on screen), it would have been a lot better.

I think too many people were turned off by the way Ang Lee turned Hulk into a character study instead of a strict action film. It's for this reason alone that I found it by far a more satisfying film than Daredevil. I'm not too strict about faithful adaptations of written material into film, because it's not always in a director's best interest to do so. Some stories don't translate well that way. But it thought that delving into the beast inside of Banner instead of just an hour and a half of "Hulk Smash" made a much more interesting film.

 

My thoughts on Daredevil can be summed up here. Well, not entirely, but suffice to say I was highly disappointed with the story, the acting, and the story. (Yes, I was doubly disappointed with the story.)

Well, considering how the trailers made the movie an action film, I could see how people might be disappointed. If you go into Hulk knowing that it's not an action film, but a character study with action elements to it, then it works a lot better.

True. I guess having known about Ang Lee's prior work (and reading up on the film before it came out), I guess I was more prepared for it. All in all, I thought the action sequences were well done. And I still love how Hulk crotched himself when he ripped the turret off that tank. So brilliant in its subtlety.

Ok suffice to say I mark for Logan... On topic though. I also liked the Hulk... until he meets up with his dad at the end... that whole fight scene REALLY killed any interest I had in the movie... which until then, was set up beautifully.

Dardevil was a good movie, although the fight scenes were weak. The cast, except for Jennifer Garner, I thought all did good jobs. Storyline wise it was great, but there were a few poorly conceived scenes that kept the movie from be as good as it could've been.

 

Hulk could've been good, but the Nick Nolte character basically tanked the thing. The character was totally unneccesary, and it weighed down entirely too much of the film. Ang Lee's stylistic choices were bold (comic-like multipanels), yet often silly (i.e. the effects when Banner's hit with the gamma rays, or when Talbot dies) and ripped you right out of the movie.
