UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2004 RRR, The fact that Benoit is beating mid-card challengers (Rhyno) in a few minutes as champ, instead of building to matches with mid-carders at PAY PER VIEWS (see A-train) shows that he has been elevated. As far as crowd acceptance as champion, I was at the RAW the night after WM. Benoit received the biggest pop of the night. He's also received great reactions on Raw in following weeks. What show are you watching? How did Benoit's title EVER chase play second fiddle to Orton/Foley? By being the MAIN EVENT at WM? By having CONTRACT SIGNINGS? By enduring a week of a cliffhanger of "What decision will Bischoff make about the main event?" By having Austin personally introduce Benoit to Raw? By actually producing a GREAT match? By having Benoit/HHH/HBK constantly focused on in the main events AFTER WM? By promoting (before the show) a HBK/Benoit tag title match? By having benoit KICK HHH's ASS in the first segment of the Raw the night after WM? By having Benoit go over in the main event the night after WM? By having HHH take out Benoit last week? By having Benoit cost HHH a victory in a Raw main event against Benjamin? Oh, sorry. Foley got beat up in a BORING beatdown in the ring. Lost a decent match at WM. Did a run-in the night after. Gave a taped promo. Foley/Orton *really* upstaged Benoit's title scene!
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2004 And Rico's more talented than Foley right now, anyway. Foley's the equivalent of a fat, high school gym teacher. Can't give up old memories and comes back for some pocket change. Orton would be the useless face jock in that class, that will never amount to anything. Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Report post Posted April 11, 2004 Haha, Rico is, has been and will always be more talented than Mick Foley - I don' appreciate Mick Foley because I think that he has more than one thimbleful of natural athletic ability - I appreciate him because he is an entertainer, and a damn good one. UTSU, Mick Foley came back to work WrestleMania XX, which is fine - and in doing that, feud with Randy Orton. It is an excellent feud, and there is nothing wrong with giving it a proper blow-off, something that it wouldn't have at WrestleMania had even Foley got the pin. UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2004 They've had one match. How is it an excellent feud? If Foley's appearence was a one-shot, it'd be cool. But I had to see him last SUMMER...and then in DECEMBER...and then walk away from Orton...and then at the Rumble...and then get his ass kicked by Evolution...and then an awful "Mick, This is Your Life!"...and then the WM match...and then a run-in...and now watch Mick "wrestle" next week on Raw AND at Backlash. He didn't "come back for WM XX". He came back to bore me for months.

Yes, he did come back for WrestleMania XX - he came back to work WrestleMania XX. What, do you think that they would've just slapped him on the card with no reason to be there? Guest cobainwasmurdered Report post Posted April 11, 2004 He came back to elevate talent and because he loves the business. Case closed. And Foley is an extremely talented wrestler. He can't do a 100 push ups or anything like that but he is excellent at seeing what kind of matches the fans want to see and then going out and doing them. People don't give Foley credit for how good he was, watch some old indy stuff or even UWF and you'll see Foley doing some great shit.

Yes, that would have been Foley's main priority when feuding with Orton. Right now, fans are thinking "Oh, that Orton - Foley'll show him at Backlash", but the thing is, he won't. Yes - Mick Foley may not be the most talented athlete in the world, but fuck me if he's not one of the most entertaining.
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2004 Benoit over HHH is storyline of the year He's also received great reactions on Raw in following weeks. -Benoit won the Rumble with an amazing performance. Meh...I wouldn't say 'amazing'. He got lost in the bodies most of the time, and personally I thought Orton did more to put over how gruelling the Rumble was than Benoit, until maybe the last 8 minutes. And then Benoit did the headbutt. Which made me think 'he's been in there 60 minutes right?' Nice try on this RRR, but the Orton hate is too strong for people to enjoy it. And seemingly the Foley hate to. Guy comes back and wrestles after retirement. OMG STOP TEH PRESSES~! If people thought Foley would never wrestle again, then they need to take a look at ome wrestling history as far as retirements go. How many wrestlers have retired of their own free will and never wrestled again? Ventura...possibly, not sure if he had to retire from injury. Monsoon. But he still took bumps from Vader. I seriously can't think of anyone else. I agree it's been a great feud because it's actually brought Orton up to mediocrity...I don't hate him, but I'm not a big fan. I'm a major Foley fan, so maybe my judgement's clouded. Either way, I think it's been booked well, save for the 'This Is Your Life' segment.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2004 I'm not feeling this feud and I'm not feeling Foley's promos anymore. This whole feud has been Foley being destroyed time and time again and then cutting a cookie-cutter promo. His last one? Predictable and boring ending in what looked like a hilarious skit with him beating things up. The feud just doesn't work for me because I don't think Foley can cut a good promo like he once did. His promos are just feeling forced to me. Saying it's the storyline of the year in a year where the only other storylines we have is 'Jericho's Creek' and 'the Return of Toby Keith Taker' isn't saying much either. Well, Foley's promo on last week's Raw was awesome stuff, but you're essentially right. No, I didn't find it forced, and if it seemed that way, it's because it wasn't a laid-back promo. At all. Consider it's nature. As for your last paragraph - Anyway, I think that it's last year too, seeing as that's when things began - but last year wasn't exactly a great year for feuds either. TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2004 I just got one question: Where did all these "great reactions" on Raw for Benoit come from? At this point he gets the 4th or 5th loudest pops on Raw behind Foley, Austin, HBK, Jericho and, possibly, Shelton.

Guest MrPhil28 Report post Posted April 11, 2004 For God's sake, mick himself said several times over that when he retired, he would still come back for a speical match every now and then. He was just retiring from fulltime competition. As much as people around here bitch about new stars not being elevated, we get a guy who comes out of retirement just to do that, and now he's a selfish asshole. Just because it's not the guy you want.

Benoit gets more thank Shelton and HBK, oftentimes more than Foley, I haven't been paying attention to Jericho so I can't say, and nobody touches Austin. Benoit's right up there. Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Report post Posted April 11, 2004 If Chris Benoit is getting a lack of pops, it coud *possibly* be because of the fact that WWE haven't made him seem like a Champion because they don't trust his mic skills.

Benoit's entrance out-pops everybody save for Austin and HBK(He always has the fans standing up).. In-ring he's the most over guy on the roster. Nobody can get the crowd hot by simply wrestling like Benoit. Shelton? Now you're just flame-baiting.

LooseCannon25 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2004 RRR, I completely agree with you. I, for one, am also not a Randy Orton hater. I think with some omore work and time he can be real good. The promo Foley delivered monday was fantastic and Orton's reaction to it was great as well. You can see Orton knew he was biting off more than he could chew. It's the classic case of young punk having no respect for the legendary veteran. You WANNA see Orton get his ass handed to him. Also, I think that RKO to end the match at WMXX was beautiful, out of nowhere and popped the crowd big time.

Never more than Foley and never more than HBK. Only at Mania cause it was a smart crowd. Jericho's mega-over since that Trish promo and yah nobody touches Austin. I wasn't serious about Shelton but the other 4 get louder reactions than Benoit without any doubt. I'm not blaming him in the least since he's in opening matches fighting La Resistanse but the top guy in the company(Eddie's SD title is worthless since Raw's is treated as the bigger deal) shouldn't be getting the 4th or 5th loudest pops on a show. And Austin is excusable since it's Austin. But if the WWE pushed Benoit's struggle so well and crowd rallied behind him then he should be out-popping HBK and, sadly, he isn't. In the ring though Benoit is undoubtable second most over(behind Eddie).
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2004 Storyline of the year, my ass. It didn't even have a video package at WM for crying out loud. Yeah it did. Evolution in the suits, by the stairs talking, with video clips interspersed. It was like a 'modified' video package. What RAW are you watching? Benoit's entrance out-pops everybody save for Austin and HBK(He always has the fans standing up).. What RAW are YOU watching? His entrance pop is decent when the music hits, and dies down from there until it's Crossface time. It's not his fault, but he's certainly not out-popping guys like Foley, Jericho, Flair and some weeks even Triple friggin' H's entrance like people make out he is. Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2004 Yeah, but something tells me him going nuts doesn't have anything to do with his character. Even though it should. Ric Flair: Still crazy after all these years. Now THAT is a shirt I'd wear.
