Gotta think Jason Caple will eventually follow the career path of his Dad and older brother. I'm sure Rusty would be in the NBA if he could have taken a jumper in the NBA without getting blocked back to the stone age. Rusty could pass in the NBA, but shoot he just could not. Guest Jimbo Report post Posted April 11, 2004 Erick Barkley (St. John's, Trail Blazers) - Could have been REALLY great, but threw it away Jason Capel (North Carolina) - Wasn't cut out for the big leagues Mateen Cleaves (Michigan State, Pistons, Kings) - ^ Rod Grizzard (Alabama) - Was a questionable talent to begin with and definitely needed more time, he was drafted by the Wiz I believe, but cut Cedric Henderson (Memphis, Cavs) - don't remember Ken Johnson (Ohio State) - don't remmeber much Bradin Knight (Pittsburgh) - Good, but too small. Maybe someday he'll get into the NBA like his bro. Kris Lang (UNC) - Unfortunate guy with the crap at UNCA at the end of his tenure, but he should try Europe Rusty LaRue (Wake Forest, Bulls) - don't remember Erron Maxey (Providence, Nike "Battlegrounds" champ) - ....the hell? What's this battlegrounds thing? Terence Morris (Maryland, Rockets) - wasted talent...or overrated depends on your school of UMD thought Lavor Postell (St. John's, Knicks) - Kareem Reid (Arkansas) - Too small Junie Sanders (Streetball legend) - who? Heh, I'm not a streetball fanatic as you can see.. Kenny Satterfield (Cincinnati, Nuggets) - Just another Cincy product that fit into Huggins' mix of big guys who can run for 40 minutes, dunk, and shoot the 3...nothing special Curtis Staples (Virginia) - Bleh, he was never that great. Good shooter, but never much beyond that. Only a few of these people ever make it. You don't hear about trajan Langdon much anymore, do ya? He was God's gift to 3-point shooting 4 years back... Here's a United States Basketball League (USBL) list: Eugene Edgerson (Arizona) - he was noticed because of his afro, please tell me what else he did that the other 1000 RESERVE power forwards of his time didn't? Tony Harris (Tennessee) - Too small, but a good player Ousmane Cisse (tried to go pro out of H.S.) - Point + Laugh. Dean Oliver (Iowa) - Don't remember him Corey Hightower (went pro out of a JUCO) - P+L Edmund Saunders (UConn) - LOL, this guy was a crap RESERVE. Kudos to him though for still being able to do what he wants. Gotta love those rich parents and his inheritance money. Lazarus Sims (Syracuse) - Wow, never thought I'd hear about him again. Solid team player and leader...I'd love to see him, John Wallace, Otis -----, and the rest of that Orangemen crew play again. That was a good team. Jeff Boschee (Kansas) - .....the hell? Give it up man. Brent Price (Oklahoma, Wizards) - No idea who this is. Shawn Kemp (Sonics, Cavs, Magic) - BWAHAHAHAHAH Albert Mouring (UConn) - Eh, maybe I got him mixed up with Edmund Saunders. Whatever, the point is, they were never overly great. Zach Marbury (Rhode Island) - Don't remember him. Any relation to Stephan? Vonteego Cummings (Pittsburgh, Warriors) - Like Boshee, Brandin Knight and quite a few of these guards who never make it, he was a team palyer and team leader who was pretty good for the college ranks, but never cut out for the NBA. Lenny Cooke (tried to go pro out of H.S.) - P+L Ronnie Fields (coulda gone pro out of H.S.) - P+L Anthony Glover (St. John's) - now that's hillarious...how is he even on a USBL team, lol Ace Custis (Va. Tech) - what is he? 30 now? Yeesh.
Guest Redhawk Report post Posted April 12, 2004 Notice how many St. John's players are on this list? Erick Barkley, Lavor Postell, Anthony Glover. I could've added Omar Cook, but he latched on with the Blazers earlier this year. And if you ever saw that ESPN: The Season on St. John's, you might remember a guy named Alpha Something who was pretty good but got kicked off the team mid-season. He's in the NBDL, too. And the number of point guards on this list who were superstars in college is scary: Mateen Cleaves, Brandin Knight, Kenny Satterfield, Kareem Reid, etc. It makes me scared for Jameer Nelson. Cedric Henderson (Memphis, Cavs) -- He was in the NBA Dunk Contest one year. And one season I think he averaged like 15-19 points a game for Cleveland. He was up for Most Improved Player or Sixth Man or All-Rookie Team or something like that. Rusty LaRue (Wake Forest, Bulls) -- I think he has a ring from his time with the Bulls. He also played football at Wake. Quarterback, if I recall correctly. Erron Maxey (Providence, Nike "Battlegrounds" champ) -- If you read SLAM, he's been in there a few times. Battlegrounds is a 1-on-1 streetball tournament that Nike holds every summer. They do it regionally, and Maxey was the West Coast champion one year. Lavor Postell (St. John's, Knicks) -- I remember when he was with the Knicks and he said something like, "I could score 20 every night if they'd just put me out there." This was when Sprewell and Houston were playing all of the minutes at SG/SF, though. Kareem Reid (Arkansas) -- I LOVED this guy in college. Lefty, really quick, great defense and a flashy playground-type game. Junie Sanders (Streetball legend) -- SLAM has a "Streetball" special issue, and he was featured in it. And I think he won Battlegorunds last year. Kenny Satterfield (Cincinnati, Nuggets) -- I just remember that I had to create him on NBA 2K3 because Denver had literally no point guards on their roster. Him and Junior Harrington. Curtis Staples (Virginia) -- If guys like Tim Legler and Craig Hodges found work in the NBA, I still don't see why Staples couldn't have. Ousmane Cisse (tried to go pro out of H.S.) -- I think he was picked in the first round by the Nuggets. Edmund Saunders (UConn) -- He did SLAM's basketball diary one year while he was at UConn. He seemed to be pretty good, and he might have even been a second-round pick. He was like 6-10, bald, looked kinda like Drew Gooden. Lazarus Sims (Syracuse) -- It was Sims, Wallace, Otis Hill, and this lefty small forward he scored about 19 or 20 in the title game but I can't remember his name. But no one was going to beat Kentucky that year. They had NBA guys on the third unit. Brent Price (Oklahoma, Wizards) -- Mark Price's little brother. He played for the Wizards when they were still the Bullets. Zach Marbury (Rhode Island) -- Steph's youngest brother. I think he came out early. Lenny Cooke (tried to go pro out of H.S.) -- Saw a story on him on ESPN earlier this year. He still thinks he's better than LeBron. Actually, LeBron kind of made his name off of Lenny. Ronnie Fields (coulda gone pro out of H.S.) -- Supposedly the greatest dunker you've never seen. He got into a car accident his senior year, broke his neck and killed his momentum. I think his grades sucked anyway. He and Garnett were on the same H.S. team. Ace Custis (Va. Tech) -- How old is he? I think he was on Coach K basketball for the Sega Genesis. There are several other guys who I didn't find but I wonder where they are: Charles O'Bannon, Shawn Respert, Randolph Childress, Ed O'Bannon, Tyus Edney, Louis Bullock, Maceo Baston, Miles Simon, Drew Barry, Harold Deane, Korleone Young... Guest Redhawk Report post Posted April 12, 2004 He was a judge for the McDonald's All-American H.S. dunk contest, which was held in Oklahoma City. He had to retire due to back problems. Another question: When Brevin Knight (Bucks) was at Stanford, they had a SG who was a really good three-point shooter. I can't remember his name at all, though. Anyone remember? The Tino Standard 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2004 Where's Big Country at? If you're referring to Bryant Reeves, he retired back when the Grizzlies were still in Vancouver, IIRC. Also, Mateen Cleaves is with the Cavs now, and while MacInnis was injured, Cleaves got some serious PT.

lomasmoney 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2004 There are several other guys who I didn't find but I wonder where they are: Charles O'Bannon, Shawn Respert, Randolph Childress , Louis Bullock, Maceo Baston, Korleone Young... Its funny all these guys were either drafted by the Pistons ( Young, Childress, and O'Bannon) or played at one of the Michigan schools (MSU or Michigan) meaning Baston, Bullock and Respert. Respert, Childress, and Bullock were all great shooters/scorers who didnt have the size to play in the NBA. Baston was an amazing shot blocker banger who reminds me alot of a Stromile Swift type player that is very athletic.

Guest Redhawk Report post Posted April 12, 2004 When ESPN did the show "Life in the D League," where they followed around the NBDL's LowGators (can't remember which city now), former UNC center Makthar N'Diaye (sic?) made sure to CONSTANTLY remind us that they only made like $26,000 per year. Like every episode he said something like, "This isn't worth the $26,000 a year they give us" or "I could be in the NBA. Not here making $26,000 a year." Ripper 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2004 I remember Randolf Childress on 3 different occasions bringing teams back in the 4th or nba games andwould put up 15-20 points in that one quarter with his shooting. Problem was he was a undersized point, let alone a 2 guard. But this is before the day of Iversons, david Wesleys and Jason Terry's he would make it now. Brent Price was one of the best backup points in the league for one year, then he got a BIG ASS contract for that year(the same year Jim Mclvaine got that HUMOUNGOUS contract for a back up center) and got injured and was crap from then out. Hell of a shooter though. I want to know what the hell happened to Trevor Ruffin. That guy could put up points faster than any human being I have ever seen. I know he was drafted by Phoenix, played for Philly then disappeard. One more guy. RIchard Dumas. I remember he was a incredible rookie small atheletic SF kinda like Scottie Pippen with his defesive abilities, got suspended for drugs and came back the size of a fucking weight lifter. I mean the guy was huge. He went to Philly (with Trevor Ruffin back when Lucas was coaching) and disappeared. Goddamn shame what happened to that entire UCLA team. Tyus Edny, George Zidek, Ed and Charles Obannon, Toby Bailey...whole damn team disappeared...although Tyus is a quality point.
Guest Jimbo Report post Posted April 12, 2004 Yeah, Ed O'Bannon was godlike during their Final Four run. Anybody know where Cameron Dollar went? He played terrificly in Edney's absence in the finals against Arkansas. Thanks Ripper for reminding me (well, maybe not thanks) of Brent Price and Big Jim, shot blocker EXTRAORDINARE~!...or so the Bullets thought. That was during the period of the mid-late 90's where every year was THE year for the Bullets. Price, then Webber and Howard, then Otis Thorpe and Mitch Richmond, Stackhouse and Laetner now...Washington is the place where good players come to die. See the Cap's and Deadskins if you don't believe it. Makthar N'Diaye was such a scrub. You remember during the Utah/UNC final four game where he started crying about Utah people saying supposed racial slurs and tried to put that as part of the blame for his horrendous play? EDIT: Y'know who else I'd like to know about? Lawrence Moten. He was a killer shooter from Syracuse in the early-mid 90's and one of the first picks for the expansion Vancuover Grizzlies. Man, did I HATE that guy when he played for the Orangemen. And Serge Zwicker of UNC fame? lol...what a guy and what a name. Another UNC man: Ed Cota? He lead the country in assists as a sophmore and was the only guy on Bill Gutheridge's best team that stayed the full 4 years? I think his backcourt partner, Shammond Williams is still hanging around the NBA ranks, right?

Guest Redhawk Report post Posted April 12, 2004 A few more I wonder about... Sharone Wright (went to Clemson, was the No. 6 pick in the Draft by Philly, supposed to be the next Barkley) Randy Livingston (LSU, was gonna be the next Chris Jackson but fucked up both his knees. He eventually made it to the NBA, but never caught on with anyone for any amount of time) Chris Kingsbury (Iowa, pretty good three-point shooter. I think he may have had an alcohol problem) Chris Herren (Boston College, Fresno State. Also had a drinking problem) Kenny Brunner (Georgetown, Fresno State. Another 'Tark reclamation project) Jerry Brown (Georgetown. Still one of my favorite Hoyas ever) Carmelo Travieso and Edgar Padilla (UMass backcourt during the Camby era) Lou Roe (UMass)

Guest Redhawk Report post Posted April 12, 2004 I read an article about Teddy Dupay (Florida) a couple of years back. He left Florida in the middle of a gambling scandal, I beleive, and was playing pro ball in Puerto Rico. He had basically been blackballed. I'm pretty sure all of the other really good player from those Florida teams (1998-2001 or so) made it in the pros: Mike Miller, Udonis Haslem, Donnell Harvey, Jason Williams. Guest Jimbo Report post Posted April 12, 2004 Brunner and another Fresno St. guy arrived in Tark's Camp and promptley attempted to rob a bank with machetes. I think you mean Joey* Brown, Redhawk, and yeah, I loved him too. My first favorite Hoya, lol. I assume Travieso and Padilla went back to their home countries to play ball. What an underrated back court they were. Btw, is Pepe Sanchez from Temple still around? He was another terrific player from the A-10. Is Lynn Greer, also from Temple, hanging around any of these leagues? He single-handedly got Temple to the NCAA's a few years back.
Guest Redhawk Report post Posted April 13, 2004 Yeah, I realized it was Joey Brown right after I left. Pepe Sanchez played for the 76ers for a while. And FOX did a documentary on Fresno State, the same year that Brunner and his friend did the robbery. I think they used samarai swords, not machetes.
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Report post Posted April 13, 2004 Ronnie Fields (coulda gone pro out of H.S.) -- Supposedly the greatest dunker you've never seen. He got into a car accident his senior year, broke his neck and killed his momentum. I think his grades sucked anyway. He and Garnett were on the same H.S. team. this is no joke, the guy would literally jump over people and dunk on them. He was a dumbass and probably would have got in trouble but he could have at least been an NBA backup if not for the accident.

Just have him around long enough to allow him into the Dunk Contest, and then he can go back to the USBL after that.
ant_7000 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2004 I wish the Bulls would give Ronnie Fields a chance since they were signing minor league players during the season anyway. That dude had some crazy ups, then he got into that car accident and then Depaul didn't want to touch him because his grades were bad. Paul Mcpherson (sp?) should get another chance in the L too. He good with Golden State then he got caught with a gun, that fuck him up. He was in the battlegrounds tourney and lost to Maxey in the 2nd round.
