Guest Anglesault Report post Posted April 18, 2004 Okay, I've managed to calm down a little. I'm sure Mr. Steinbrenner will take care of the situation in a timely manner In the meantime, I can look forward to Kevin Brown getting us our win on Monday. EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2004 I'm sure Mr. Steinbrenner will take care of the situation in a timely manner Jesus Christ man. Don't you remember the 80s? Don't you remember how George Steinbrenner did everything he could to bring a championship to New York, and nearly killed the Yankee legacy in the process? The only thing that got the Yankees back where they are was Steinbrenner NOT messing with the team for a few years, allowing new stars to cultivate. Making roster moves based on 12 games and 40-50 at bats is the worst possible way to run a team. Its a road to certain disaster.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted April 18, 2004 I never said roster move. I said he'll take care of the problem.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2004 What do you mean making roster moves after 12 games is bad? Isn't it obvious that ARod is going to hit .170 this year and they should hope to get a David Bell in trade for him. And Mike Mussina is certainly going to go 0-25 on the year with a 7.00 ERA. Guest Anglesault Report post Posted April 18, 2004 And Mike Mussina is certainly going to go 0-25 on the year with a 7.00 ERA. Mussina, depsite his own best efforts, has a win.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2004 Then they ought to trade him now, while he has value. They might be able to get Roberto Hernandez for him, Hernandez has a better ERA and has had two decent outings in a row.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2004 I never said roster move. I said he'll take care of the problem. Yes, because he has such a great track record of doing that. Steinbrenner causes more problems than he fixes when he gets his hands dirty with the Yankees.

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2004 He'll motivate them. I ask again. How? Because we've been playing baseball for 135 years, and so far no one has come up with a proven method of motivating players.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2004 Maybe they can get the local sports radio people on the players' cases. They can talk about how the players are lazy and have empty numbers. That seems to be the method around here in Bobby Abreu's case.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2004 Well, Abreu finished sixth in the NL in Win Shares last year, so maybe it worked.
Guest MikeSC Report post Posted April 18, 2004 Angle --- we aren't even 10% of the way done with the season. In college football, we'd have just finished the first game. Jesus, calm down. You'd think you were Dama discussing OU or something. -=Mike ...Who will laugh heartily if the Yanks DON'T make the playoffs

Because we've been playing baseball for 135 years, and so far no one has come up with a proven method of motivating players. I don't know, and to tell you the truth, I don't particularly care. There's no excuse for not showing up to a Red Sox series, I don't care what time of the year it is. The Sox came to play, and so should they. And someone's gonna have to tell that. I'm not even going to get into the rest of their performances this year.

Guest Anglesault Report post Posted April 18, 2004 I have no fucking clue. But, like you've all said, April games have no bearing whatsoever on the race for first place, and neither do games against the other team in the race, so why worry?
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2004 I bet the reason that the Yankees are losing is because Zimmer is gone. Suprised no one's brought that up. I just think this series means more to Boston. The Yankees know they can beat Boston. So they won't have has most interest in an April has they would a September series. Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2004 FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK I don't care if you're a Yankee fan or not, the Yankees outing today had to personally offend you as a baseball fan. I've seen LITTLE LEAGUERS play better. *Ted DiBiase laugh* It's early, everyone will eventually get the feel of things again, and almost everyone all over the league isn't really having a red letter year so far. I still enjoy knowing that spending umpteens of millions more than anyone else in the league won't win you games, though it still does it's damage to the game (i.e. people on other teams will want bigger checks because equal players on NYY are getting paid so much more, and the price of players overall goes up.) Too bad Boston spends like crazy, too.

Untrue. After the Moneyball revolution, teams are wising up. Players get what they are worth. And how does the price of players rising do damage to the game? 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2004 I love how the Red Sox fans are biting their lips, trying not to say a damn thing. For once, the Boston faithful are learning maybe the best bet is to not mock and wake up the Yankees. What is A-Rod hitting anyway? I want to find out how much he'll have the rebound to earn his paycheck.
Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted April 18, 2004 A-Rod's batting a .171 right now.

Hey Steinbrenner should be upset the way the Yankees are playing. It also wouldn't suprise me if Steinbrenner starts criticizing his team and places all the media attention on himself, and let's the Yankees get their act together. Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2004 Untrue. After the Moneyball revolution, teams are wising up. Players get what they are worth. Look at the money figures. Traditionally, nobody spends anything near as much as New York. That's starting to even out a bit more this year because some teams are blowing more cash around, but a spending cap would do more to help. And people are still getting big salary jumps going to the Yankees. And how does the price of players rising do damage to the game? How did WCW do damage to professional wrestling? By paying out massive amounts of money (compared to the other feds) for the likes of Rick Steiner and Buff Bagwell, everyone got an inflated sense of self-worth and as such price demands went up everywhere. And now, years after WCW, wrestlers want a heavily inflated price per appearance compared to what they wanted before Bischoff and Russo played with Ted's checkbook. Independent feds cannot afford WCW/WWF castoffs without drawing more people to the building than that level of star and that kind of fed can draw. TNA tried and was a mess until someone richer made an investment in it. What's all this mean? It's the same with baseball. Owners are going to watch their best guys go to New York, Boston, or wherever unless they give into demands for a salary increase, because those owners are willing and able to throw large sacks of money around like they're going out of style. Then, eventually, we'll be left with the five or six teams where the billionaires play baseball and all the other teams will be filled with the sad saps they're stuck with because it's what they can afford. For the love of the game, salary cap, PLEASE.
