What were your feelings about Tonight's PPV?

Benjamin/Flair: Benjamin wins clean, which is cool. The match was just "blah", though. Typical Flair offense, lots of chops and "whoos" from the crowd. It was okay, I was just hoping for a little better. **1/4

 

Coach/Tajiri: Coach was way better than I thought he'd be, though he did very simple stuff. I don't see the point of him winning here, especially after Tajiri sold so much for him during the match. *

 

Jericho vs. X/Trish: Fun match, just what it should be. Some good near falls, and a good finish. I figured Trish would get pinned here, but not the case. ***

 

Vicky vs. Lita: Better than I thought it would be but awkwards at time. *1/4

 

Orton/Foley: Kind of hard to rate because hardcore matches are so different from wrestling matches. But it really did a great job of drawing the crowd into the match, and the bumps were good but not too dangerous. ***3/4

 

Hurricane/Rosey vs. La Resistance: Pointless filler. *

 

Edge vs. Kane: Disappointing and boring. 1/4*

 

Benoit vs. HHH vs. HBK: Great match, not quite as good as WM on an emotional level, but everything was done very well. ****

Orton's a badass. The two big matches delivered as well as could be expected. Jericho's match was fun. The rest was a pile of shite.

It really was a two-match show between Foley/Orton and Benoit/HBK/HHH. The Handicap match was decent as well, and Tajiri/Coach was better than everybody probably thought it would be. But the rest of the card was just terrible.

I don't understand what is wrong with the OAO thread, but my quick thoughts on each match:

 

Benjamin over Flair: *, Benjamin is the man but Flair is too slow nowadays.

Tajiri over Coach: 3/4*, Coach is better than the OVW callups, sadly. Tajiri pinned off a punch?

Jericho vs. X/Trish: **3/4, Solid stuff, Christian and Jericho work well together. Loved the ending.

Vicky vs. Lita: *, when Vickie was on offense it was fine.

Orton/Foley: **, no real story told and just random weapon shots. Orton sold like a champ, though.

Hurricane/Rosey vs. La Resistance: 3/4*, Hurricane is talented, that's all I have to say.

Edge vs. Kane: 1/2*, Boring as fuck, Kane shouldn't be working matches like this.

Benoit vs. HHH vs. HBK: Fun, better than WMXX due to less sloppiness, no nonsensical bleeding, and less sloppiness by HBK. ***1/4

My Match Ratings that don't really matter:

 

SNH: Val Venis vs. Matt Hardy: **1/2 A Decent match that had a hot crowd. I'm glad they shat all over a Canadian and cheered Matt.

 

Shelton Benjamin vs. Ric Flair: *1/2 Nothing that good, but it was solid enough and again, the crowd played a small factor in this one. A little sloppy though.

 

Tajiri vs. Coach: NR No Way can I rate this. It was funny, and Tajiris basement dropkick was fucking sweet, but otherwise just a comedy match. Coach for IC Champ!

 

Chris Jericho vs. Trish-tian: *** Fun and very good. Kept the match clean to an extent, and Jericho went over the mid-carder instead of a woman. Feud was too lnog to mean anything at this point though.

 

Cactus Jack vs. Randy Orton: ***3/4 Fucking SWEET. I never expected Orton to go balls out like that, and Foley definitely had his working leopard skin boots on as well. Finish seemed a BIT botched, but who can complain about this one.

 

Victoria vs. Lita: Didn't Watch. Try and figure out why.

 

Hurricane & Rosey vs. La Resistance: * Decent filler. Nothing more nothing less.

 

Edge vs. Kane: Fuck Edge. Edge is #1 on my Hit List. Not gonna rate this piece of crap of a match.

 

Chris Benoit vs. Shawn Michaels vs. HHH: ***1/2 Definitely not even as good as the WM XX match, and seemed to lack interest now and then, but still very good and kept me on the edge of my seat at times. Great ending.

I missed the Benjamin/Flair match but heard it wasn't special.

 

Dispite battling severe stomach cramps(and that was before Lita even came out), I enjoyed the Next two matches, Coach was mildly entertaining and Tajiri sold well. Jericho Vs Tristian was very fun match. The Hardcore match was really exciting, but felt somewhat deflated since with Foley being gone for 4 years, I hoped he'd create something really nifty; as it were The match was very good and Orton looked credible for the first time ever. The Woman's and The Tag Match got zero notice from me, I heard the reaction for Eugene and folks...He's fucking over as hell.

 

Edge/Kane was complete shit and the whole crowd was just dead at the bar with bored looks glazed over them.

 

The Main event was hella fun but not remotely emotional as the WMXX match.

 

Overall...A solid bang up show if you ask me. The Two Mains served their purpose well and nothing was offensive here.

I was pretty much just looking forward to the 3 way and Orton Foley, and both matches were really good so that makes it a good show for me. I finally started to enjoy Ric Flair over the last couple of months too, he could turn out to be a pretty good wrestler in I think.

Very enjoyable show overall. I'm too tired to type out full opinions but I enjoyed the main event, just not as much as WM, the hardcore match was great while Kane/Edge, Vitoria/Lita and HurriRosie/La Resistance were boring spots. So here are my quick ratings...

Benjamin/Flair: This match was a little sloppy. I don't know if it was Benjamin's fault or Flair's. Maybe it was both. *1/2

 

Coach/Tajiri: Coach suprised me in this match. I wasn't good by any stretch, but Coach showed some athleticism. It got the story across better than I thought it would. *1/4

 

Jericho vs. X/Trish: This match was better than I thought it was going to be. Everybody clicked like they were suposed to. ***

 

Victoria vs. Lita: Lita Didn't blow too many spots. The only one that I can recall was the moonsault spot. The match was still brutal, but Victoria looked hot. * for Victoria

 

Orton Vs Foley: Man, this match was violent. Perhaps the most straight up violent match in WWE PPV history. I have to give Orton props for taking that thumbtack bump. It looked like it shook him up a bit. There was some wandering going on toward the end of the match that hurt it a bit. ***1/2 if you're judging it for being a match ****3/4 if you're judging it for it's level of violence (by WWE standards).

 

Hurricane/Rosey Vs Grenier/Conway: Lousy. 1/2* for Eugene

 

Edge Vs Kane: It would be a shame to see Edge's stock drop so soon after coming back, but this match really sucked and the crowd just didn't care. The ref got the biggest reaction . DUD

 

HHH Vs Benoit Vs HBK

The first 10 minutes were a bit flat, but it really picked up halfway. A great finish, nuclear heat, and hard work by all 3 men get this ***3/4 from me.

The Triple Threat was OK, but I didn't think it compared to the WM match.

 

Orton vs. Foley wasn't too bad for a hardcore match, though it mostly focused on weapon shots.

 

Everything else was either decent or average.

 

Not a bad Backlash this year, surprisingly.

I don't really have the energy to get into rating every single match, but I thought the WWE tried its absolute best to do a make-good with Canadian fans with that ending. I mean, if the locals there couldn't be happy with Chris Benoit successfully retaining the World title by making Shawn Michaels tap out to a Sharpshooter (a month after Benoit made HHH tap to the Crossface at WM), then I don't know what to tell ya.

Orton/Foley was the best damn fucking brawl I've seen in a *long* time. Kudos to both, and if that doesn't make Orton a star, nothing will.

 

*AWESOME* finish to the three-way, everything was done right.

Flair/Benjamin - **. Nothing special but definately watchable. Flair's always fun.

Coach/Tajiri - 1/2*, and that's for the tree of woe dropkick. Good lord.

Handicapped - **1/2. Fun stuff with some good near falls.

Lita/Victoria - *1/2. It's as if they layed out a thoughtful, creative match and then executed it with sloppiness and total lack of speed.

Foley/Orton - ***1/2. It took them a bit to really get going, but once they did, WOW. Maybe not great as a wrestling match, but this is the type of match to get Orton over. Funny how much they copied from HHH/Foley, ie Foley kicking out of a finisher, then a finisher onto a weapon to finish.

La Resistance/Rosicane - NR. I wasn't paying much attention.

Edge/Kane - DUD. They didn't even try. At all.

Benoit/HHH/HBK - ***1/2. Didn't see the WM match so no comparison to that, but it was pretty much constant action with good near falls and quite the ending.

 

Overall a pretty enjoyable show.

Foley/Orton gets ****- That was damn fine. Not as good as Foley/HHH, but still great.

La Resistance/Hurricane/Rosie gets 1/2* for Eugene.

Edge/Kane was a DUD.

Benoit/HHH/HBK gets ****1/2. I honestly liked the match more than WrestleMania. Plus, he waved the Canadian flag at the end, which is an extra 1/2*.

The crowd was very over for Matt and he still lost, WTF?

Not too bad, which was exactly what I was expecting. I could have used a better finish (come on, a fucking flying clothesline?!!), but hey Shelton won clean and no run-in from Batista like I thought.

 

Tajiri / Coach

 

I was expecting a cop-out as I didn't think Coach was actually gonna wrestle. Now Tajiri fueds with Cade...*shudders

 

Chris Jericho / Christian-Trish

 

Not too bad, but damn it I was expecting one of those bitches to tap out.

 

Vitoria / Lita

Ladies and gentlemen, the impossible happened...again. I was for sure the title was going back into the hands of HHH and they would fuck Benoit over in his hometown like last time (And WWE's track record when it comes to wrestlers and their hometowns isn't great to begin with) after HHH kept fucking with us in his promo and Lawler to a degree with his comments. The crowd shitted on Shawn, the look on his face as he was looking around as the crowd was going off on him was just one of those moments. And then once Earl came down, I was cursing so loud, I made sure the neighbors could hear me. And then Michaels tapped out to the Sharpshooter, it was the perfect ending. I'm definitely buying the DVD. And that's a wrap folks
