Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Report post Posted April 19, 2004 I have no problem with it, but the quote you have is not from Revelation Chapter 22, Verse 16. That quote is: "It is I, Jesus, who have sent my angel to give you this testimony about the churches. I am the Root and Offspring of David, the Morning Star shining bright." I don't know where your quote is from.

Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Report post Posted April 19, 2004 But... do you think that quote would actually be from the Bible? Nah, you're probably joking. Well, I'd think it's fairly misleading to have that notation at the end. Just wanted to reiterate, that I didn't have a problem with it, (Hell, I think UYI is a cool guy) just that I didn't "get" why he'd imply that quote was from the Bible. Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted April 20, 2004 It's not funny. You're obviously a pretty big fucking idiot if you didn't consider PM'ing this post instead of putting it in the SITE FEEDBACK folder. Its not called the UYI Feedback folder. Firestarter 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2004 From UYI's sig: "Of all the systems of religion that ever were invented, there is no more derogatory to the Almighty, more unedifiying to man, more repugnant to reason, and more contradictory to itself than this thing called Christianity" the quote you have is not from Revelation Chapter 22, Verse 16 Like, no fucking shit? You think? I mean isn't it pretty bloody obvious that a passage in the BIBLE wouldn't be calling CHRISTIANITY "repugnant?" "Fairly misleading?" Excuse the expression, but Jesus. I don't know where your quote is from It's from Thomas Paine's Age of Reason, and that the hyphens are supposed to separate the quotation and the Biblical reference rather than connect the two is made clear by the simple fact that there's more than one. Why the hell does this thread exist anyway? Just to make me feel nauseous by forcing me to agree with Banky?

Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2004 The real reason for this thread's creation was to get Marney to freak out, of course.
Use Your Illusion 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2004 In my copy of the Bible, it's "I am the root and offspring of David, and the bright and morning star." Isaiah 14:12 - St.Jerome translates 'morning star' into the Latin term, 'Lucifer', which is a name often associated with Satan. I just find it amusing that Jesus reveals himself to be Satan in the Bible. As for the quote, Cancer Marney's explanation is correct, it's from Thomas Paine's Age of Reason.
Firestarter 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2004 Actually, "Lucifer" just means "Lightbearer," and "morning star" refers to rank rather than identity. Christ isn't identifying himself as Lucifer; it's simply that his current position is supposed to be equivalent to Lucifer's former position.

Guest SP-1 Report post Posted April 21, 2004 (edited) You're trusting a latin translation to try and point out something like that in the Bible? Edited April 21, 2004 by SpiderPoet
Use Your Illusion 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2004 It's hardly something I'm taking literally, it is just an observation I made within the Bible.
Guest SP-1 Report post Posted April 22, 2004 Yeah, but the observation is faulty because, as Marney said, there are translation issues that aren't taken into account in the Latin. Sorry. It's something that bugs me about modern perception of the Bible. It didn't originate in the King James source material. Starting with the early Old Testament books, it was carefully preserved in Hebrew, Aramaic, and eventually Greek (even the OT in the LXX) before it was assembled and translated into Latin (and eventually into English). There is so much stuff that needs to be taken into account when studying the Bible. And people who don't know what they're doing often come up with things like that or ill percieved "conflicts" or "errors" that are later easily explained with proper study. I'm not dogging you or anything. It's just a pet peeve because it often puts incorrect knowledge in people's minds that they then judge Christianity with. Use Your Illusion 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2004 I fully acknowledge that I faslely interpreted the Bible. I just, at least at the time I discovered it, thought it was interesting.
