Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2004 (edited) Considering we've had so many people complain about the Gamefaqs tourney, this thread will lead towards the day we get a BEST. GAME. EVAR~! instead of all the Final Fantasy Fans putting all the Final Fantasy games at the top of the heap. This is the Nominations Thread. We will follow the Vote Differential of the RPG Tournys, but for the first round (and if there is a tie from me looking to the previous round) then I'll ask someone who hasn't voted to break any ties. This will be a freaking massive tourney, only 64 games from each category will be nominated. The Categories: Action (This includes fighter games) Adventure (Mario type games) Driving Puzzle Role-Playing (For pity's sake, Zelda games do NOT count here) Simulation (Duh...) Sports (This includes wrestling games) Strategy You can only make one nomination for each category. Think long and hard before you do so, and also you must include the system you intend for. Thus, if multi-platform, choose the best one. My Nomiations: Action - Guilty Gear XX (PS2) Adventure - Legend Of Zelda: Wind Waker (GC) Driving - Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec (PS2) Puzzle - Tetris (NES) Role-Playing - Terranigma (SNES) Simulation - Total Extreme Warfare (PC) * Sports - NHL 95 (SNES) Strategy - Age of Empires (PC) *Did you know that Gamefaqs has this listed as ACTION? That's just fucked up right there. It is simulation of being a wrestling owner, hence why it goes in Simulation. Remember, these are nominations. This just means someone went out of their way to remember games that might not get some consideration that should. Nominations End On May 19th, 2004 or when each category has 64 games nominated for it. Tourney For BEST. GAME. EVAR~! will begin on May 20th, 2004. Hm... Maybe I can bribe someone on TSM like Dr. Tom to let me do a column on this? Nah... No one would let silly me get a column. Oh well, just settle for this. chaosrage 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2004 Okay, the lesser genres (like puzzles and sports) should only get 10-20 noms. I can't think of 10 puzzles, and I can't even think of 1 simulation. But action should have WAY the fuck more since it pretty much covers platformers, survival horror, fighting, FPS, and 2-d shooters. Plus we don't have 64 people on this board. We might have 15. Action - Resident Evil (PS1, GC) Adventure - Zelda (NES) Driving - F-Zero GX (GC) Puzzle - Lemmings (SNES) Role-Playing - Final Fantasy 4 (SNES) Simulation - Uhh.. Sports - Super Dodge Ball (NES) Strategy - Romance of the Three Kingdoms 4 (SNES)
Renegade 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2004 I find it a bit odd that Fighters and action games have to share the same genre where puzzle and simulation games have a whole section to themselves. Action - Gunstar heroes (Megadrive) Adventure- Sonic 2 (Megadrive) Driving- Daytona USA 2 (arcade) Puzzle- Uh, puzzle bobble (Neo-geo) Role-Playing- Kingdom hearts (PS2) Simulation- Dont care Sports- EDIT: Pending... Strategy- Dont care Fighting (Yes it wont count but hey I'm putting it in here)- King of fighters 98.
The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2004 You know, you've got a "duh" right next to the simulation thing, but I don't have a damn clue about what you mean here. Flight simulation? Sports simulation? Sim-games? I'll go with one of Wright's games and play it safe, I suppose. Action = Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (NES) Adventure = Super Mario 64 (N64) Driving = Super Mario Kart (SNES) Puzzle = Tetris Attack (SNES) Role-Playing = Chrono Trigger (SNES) Sports = Cyber Stadium Series: Base Wars (NES) Strategy/Simulation = X-Com: UFO Defense (PC) Fighting = Soul Calibur (DC) EDITED for constantly changing categories. Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2004 (edited) Alright, slight change to categories before I end up on a long week hiatus (due to my own PC busted) on game breakdown: Action: 120 Adventure: 116 Driving: 16 Puzzle: 16 Role-Playing: 100 Simulation: 16 Sports: 64 Strategy: 64 For those wondering about Simulation, it means you are simulating in being an actual something. Like Total Extreme Warfare lets you simulate being a wrestling promoter, SimCity lets you simulate being a city planner, etc. That might be changed, if we find problems, but still bring the nominations! Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2004 (edited) I only want EIGHT categories and because I'm getting so many of you guys complaining about fighting, then FINE! Done. However, Simulation and Strategy have been slapped together! To make sure I've only got 8 categories. Action: 100 Adventure: 100 Driving: 16 Fighting: 52 Puzzle: 16 Role-Playing: 100 Sports: 64 Strategy: 64 And there probably isn't 52 fighting games... Might have to change that. Just vote on the current categories for now. We'll get the demographics fixed later. I just want people to nominate games. Any and all games. And yes, contrary to Disgaea and FFT being TRPGs, they are in the strategy category as they are more strat then RPG. However, Simulation and Strategy have been slapped together! To make sure I've only got 8 categories. Personally, I think it would be better to have a "Misc." category, which would include strategy, puzzle, simulation, and any other games that may not fall into the other categories. I'm not a fan of FPS, but they should probably have their own category. Just vote on the current categories for now. We'll get the demographics fixed later. I just want people to nominate games. Any and all games. In that case, wouldn't it be easier for people to nominate a certain amount of games, regardless of the genre? The only downside would be that some people might only nominate games from one category (as you mentioned in the first post), but it would probably even out in the end. Action- Grand Theft Auto III (PlayStation 2) Adventure- Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PlayStation) Driving- Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec Fighting- Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Puzzle- Tetris (NES) Role-Playing- N/A Sports- Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 (Dreamcast) Strategy/Simulation- EWR 4.
