Louisiana May Ban Low-Slung Pants

BATON ROUGE, La. - People who wear low-slung pants that expose skin or "intimate clothing" would face a fine of up to $500 and possible jail time under a bill filed by a Jefferson Parish lawmaker.

State Rep. Derrick Shepherd said he filed the bill because he was tired of catching glimpses of boxer shorts and G-strings over the lowered belt lines of young adults.

The bill would punish anyone caught wearing low-riding pants with a fine of as much as $500 or as many as six months in jail, or both.

"I'm sick of seeing it," said Shepherd, a first-term legislator. "The community's outraged. And if parents can't do their job, if parents can't regulate what their children wear, then there should be a law."

The bill would be tacked onto the state's obscenity law, which restricts sexual activity in public places and the sale of sexually explicit items.

Joe Cook, head of the American Civil Liberties Union (news - web sites)'s Louisiana chapter, said the bill probably does not meet the U.S. Supreme Court (news - web sites)'s standard for the prohibition of obscene behavior under the First Amendment.

"What about a woman who is wearing a bathing suit under her garment or she has something like a sarong wrapped around her and it's below her waist," he said. "I can think of a lot of workers, plumbers, who are working and expose their buttocks ..."

That sums up the real problem right there

I've long thought there should be a law against plumber's crack.

But against hotties in thongs and low-slung jeans? No way, no how.

The real problem is some old shit is looking around and going, "these damn kids today with their fashions and devil music... there ought to be a law" and unfortunately he's in position to actually put such a thing up for consideration. God the ACLU is pretty much worthless 97% of the time seemingly, but its because of stupid legislators like this one that we need them around.

I'm sure the 'community outrage' is the guy's Friday poker game too.

So they're trying to tell people what they can and can't wear?

Yeah, that'll fly...

What exactly would be considered "low slung"? Are the police to carry rulers so they can test waist band levels? Surely the police have better things to do.

You'd think a bunch of old fuckers would enjoy seeing young attractive females showing thongs when they bend over. Perhaps fat ugly women are the main offenders in Lousiana.

The problem is that it's the wanna-be gangstas who live in Country Club of LA and the prostitots (pre-teen Brittany Spears wanna-be girls) who do it.

Damn and I want go to LSU too.

But with hot latin women who openly wear seductive clothing around here I don't think I can pass up going to FIU or UMiami if I had the money.

The difference is that you'll need to know Spanish to go there, while at LSU it's easy to recognize the mating call of the Southern Belle... "Oh, I am SO drunk!"

In case you haven't realized, I'm Cuban-American so I don't have the problem of not knowing Spanish.

I also live here, in case you couldn't tell from my sig (that's the Miami skyline with the causeway to Key Biscayne in the forefront)

This is stupid...well, I agree on that guys shouldn't wear stuff like that. No guy wants to see another guy have his pants dropped down to his thighs. But damn it! The only girls who don't dress like that are the super-religious ones and fat bitches...and some of them dress like that. (vomits)

Damn Louisiana.

Go back to looking at 12 year old girls BBCW, at least they're in your age range.

Excuse me? No, not all girls wear super low pants with their thongs hanging out. And to say that only super religious and fat girls don't is stupid and inaccurate, because I am neither and I don't expose my thong to everyone.

I don't expect many people who live in Canadas to dress like that anyway, since the temperature is in the negatives more than half the year. But living in states like Florida...or Louisiana I guess where it's hot 8-9 months of the year, seeing women dressed in either low cut jeans or short-shorts is not uncommon.

you're an idiot. canada isn't a frozen wasteland. BC has awesome weather compared to the majority of the States.

Most years we don't even get snow at all in the most populated areas.

Know what you're talking about before you open your moth kid.

I'm assuming Man Of 1,004 Modes is BBCW (Damn kids and all their stupid name changes), and I'm going to defend him, kinda.

He is right about chicks wearing skimpy clothes that shouldn't be revealing ANY skin.

However, I disagree about Canada, at least from my own experiences. The times I've been up there the weather has been great (although all trips have been in the summer), and there are some hotties that live up there. You guys may be a bit too socialist for my taste, but nobody's perfect...

bah of course ugly women shouldn't bare everything but saying that all women but religious and fat ones dress a certain way is not only stupid but incredibly stupid.

Came up in the spring did we?

In the summer we have great weather (too hot in the US). Really it isn't that bad in the winter either except for January generally. At least in Ottawa. We will still get storms, but overall it is pretty nice. I will admit that the winter weather in Toronto is worse, or at least it was when I lived there for 19 years. Partly because their snowplow service is much much worse than that of Ottawa-Carleton, but mostly because you get cold winds and snow coming off of Lake Ontario all winter long from about December to March. It is warmer in terms of temperature than Ottawa, but it is also more miserable to put up with.

One thing that I find odd is that we are far more liberal in terms of the lack of clothing we can wear compared to the southern states where it is much warmer.

That would be because the Southern states are also known as the Bible-belt.

I'm just wondering how they're going to reinforce this, considering they would pretty much have to demand that clothes makers stop designing pants to be low-rise, which would not happen. The problem, for the most part, is that pants are either too high-waisted or too low-waisted right now, there really is no middle ground, and no teenager or 20-something wants to walk around with pants that go up to underneath their breasts since it's highly uncomfortable and looks really, really bad. However, it isn't THAT hard to find pants that don't reveal a thong or an ass crack, it just takes a little bit of shopping and trying on different things. And hell, my brother would be more in trouble under this law than any of the females in my family because he tends to wear his pants down somewhere around mid-thigh while exposing his boxers.

It's a stupid, stupid law, though.

It's already been established, but you are stupid. I live in BC, it is hardly ever cold here. Our 'snowfall' in the lower mainland is maybe half a foot at the most. So yes, low slung pants are worn, just not by everyone.

Out of curiousity though, how are the wearing of low slung pants affected by the weather? If it's cold, your choice in pants don't usually change.

From the future:

"Amy Dumas, also known to wrestling fans as Lita has been taken in on charges of exposing her thong. She exclaimed "Pleathe don't arretht me!" as the police put the handcuffs on her at a show in New Orleans. She is expected to plea guilthy on one charge of indecent exposure and one count of being a shitty wrestler."
