Guest Evolution Report post Posted April 24, 2004 Victory has never come easy for John Duran. Throughout his thirteen month career with the SJL and SWF, he has fought with every inch of his being to be the best he can be. He now stands poised to make that one big move into the spotlight, something he has pined for all of his life. On the other hand, in just over a year, Charlie ‘Grappler’ Matthews has ascended to heights never thought possible. After winning the Triple Crown in the SJL, Charlie moved to the SWF where he defeated Dace Night and Va’aiga as Show--with partner Quiz--capturing the tag titles as the team of Double Jeopardy. From there, Charlie moved on to winning the Intercontinental Television and United States titles, holding them simultaneously for a period of time. Before Charlie became the SWF World Heavyweight Champion and Duran the contender to the throne, however, there was a year, a 12 month period that neither man would ever forget… SJL BRINGIN’ THE FUNK No matter how hard you try, you can’t stop us now… “A BOSS fatal four-way elimination match for the SJL Television Championship,” the Suicide King describes the opening match of the pay-per-view, as images of David Blazenwing, Leo Breslin, Charlie Matthews, and John Duran--SJL Television Champion--flash across the screen. “David Blazenwing has been EELLLLLLLIMINATED!” “Leo Breslin has been EELLLLLLLLIMINATED!” Grappler and Duran stand toe-to-toe as the voiceover returns. Every rivalry has to have a beginning…and at SJL Bringin’ The Funk, it all began… BOOM Charlie dropping Duran with a powerbomb… ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TWOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THREE~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO!!! KICKOUT BY DURAN AT 2.9999999999~! BOOM Another powerbomb from Charlie. OOOOOOOOOOOONE~!!!!!!!!!!!!! TWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! “Ladies and gentlemen, your winner, and new Smartmarks Junior League Television Champion, Charlie ‘Grappler’ Matthews!” Charlie had struck the first blow. It would not be the last… SJL WRATH, JUNE 1ST, 2003 Another four-way. As luck would have it, Grappler and Duran would meet again…this time, Duran would have victory within his grasp… Duran, however, lifts Charlie to his feet by the hair, and positions himself between Charlie’s right arm and leg, before summoning all of his strength and lifting Grappler onto his shoulders in a reverse fireman’s carry position! Axis: Oh my GOD! What is John Duran thinking? King: He’s going for the Blunt Force Trauma! But the question is: will he be able to execute it? Duran grimaces in pain as he has Grappler in this position, and as he goes to rotate his opponent to complete the move, his BACK GIVES OUT as he falls to the canvas, dropping Matthews harmlessly to the mat! With Duran stomach-down on the canvas, Matthews quickly grabs Duran’s leg in a half-crab position, before twisting around the leg and dropping down, locking it in place. He then reaches across John’s body and wraps his left arm around Duran’s throat, pulling back as he executes the STF. “TAP!” “TAP!” “TAP!” *TAP*TAP*TAP* Axis: Duran tapped out! This one is over! *DING DING DING* “Your winner and number one contender for the SJL European Championship, CHARLIE “GRAPPLER” MATTHEWS!!!” SJL METAL, JUNE 10TH, 2003 After losing his opportunity to fight for the European Title, John Duran defeated Chris Trepanier to earn #1 contendership status and face Charlie Matthews once again… “OH MY GOD! It’s the Native American Deathlock!” The scene comes to life, with Matthews wrenching back on Duran’s legs as Duran searches frantically for a way out, trying desperately to reverse the pressure on his leg. “--nothing John Duran can do!” “--nothing John Duran can do!” The line repeats over and over again as the camera switches to Duran’s anguished face, his leg being stretched to inhumane lengths… TAP TAP TAP ”That’s it! It’s over!” *DING DING DING* The tape of the event slows down, focusing on Duran’s face. “--no shame in tapping out--“ “Duran will get his day in the sun--“ Axis and King’s words, respectively, act as a voiceover the look of dejection on Duran’s face after his loss to the Grappler. SJL CRIMSON, JUNE 19TH, 2003 The heartbreak of his loss to the Grappler only nine days earlier had to be forgotten. Duran’s chance had come again, and this time the stakes were higher: In Quahog, Rhode Island, John Duran and Charlie Matthews entered the ring with four other men, all looking for a shot at the vacant SJL World Heavyweight Title. The final two men remaining out of the six would face off for the vacant title--the winner would choose the stipulation of that match. Standing on the top rope, Jenkins mockingly flashes the same Metal sign before leaping into the air and flipping backwards, falling forward, all the way into a sitting position with his leg crushing the larynx of Tarakanov! Axis: THE SHOOTING STAR LEGDROP~! Good lord, he’s never hit that move! Smirking, Hollywood covers Viktor Tarakanov with a lateral press as Soapdish counts again: ONE!!! TWOOOO!!!!!!! THREEEEE~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *DING* … Aecas falls backward to the mat, with Manson on top of him in a pin! However, just as Soapdish drops to count, Matthews falls on top of Manson, and is followed by Spike Jenkins, who crawls on top of Grappler! John Duran returns to the action by sitting at the top of the heap, as Aecas is covered by a total of ONE THOUSAND POUNDS~! Soapdish counts, as the crowd applauds the ingenuity… ONE~!!! TWO~!!!!!!!!!! THREEEEEEE~!!!!!!!!! *DING* … With an evil look in his eyes, the Sinner pushes Manson’s legs back and spins him around, falling back and landing on the mat, destroying Manson with a deadly neckbreaker to complete the Blunt Force Trauma!! All the way from the crowd, Peter Griffen can be heard saying “HOLY CRAP!!” as Duran casually hooks a leg on Manson as Soapdish counts: ONE~! TWO~!!!!!!!!!!!!! THREEEEEEEEE~!!!!!!!!!!!! With Spike Jenkins, Charlie Matthews and John Duran remaining, it seemed a foregone conclusion that Charlie Matthews and John Duran would have a rematch. The fans pined for it. They desired to see another clash of these two… The Sinner then picks Jenkins off the mat and places his head between his legs, raising his arms up and signaling for the Ultimate Sin! He wraps his arms around Spike’s body and flips him into the air, until he’s standing back-to-back with him in a crucifix position. … …but it was not meant to be. Matthews appears right in front of Duran, with the steel chair raised above his head! Before Duran can even think of what to do, Grappler summons the strength to bring the chair down right across the Sinner’s head! … BOOM Axis: THE HIGHLIGHTER~! Matthews gets revenge on John Duran in a big way! Spike covers as Soapdish drops to count and Matthews watches on, satisfied: ONE!!!!!!! TWOOOO~!!!!!!!!!! THREEEEEEE~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Defeat returned to John Duran, and the dejection and anger came with it. SJL WRATHAPALOOZA, JULY 14TH, 2003 After losing the opportunity to face Charlie Matthews for the SJL World Heavyweight Title at this event, John Duran got revenge in the only way he knew how… With that, Grappler crosses himself and then, using his leg strength, pushes off of the dugout, vaulting back through the air All The Way DOWN, RIGHT ON TOP OF AECAS, CRUSHING HIM WITH A MOONSAULT!!!!!!!! ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TWOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! T H R E E E E E EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! “LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, THE WINNER OF THIS CONTEST, AND STIIIIIIIIIIIIL ESSSSSS JAAAAAAY ELLLLLLLLL HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WOOOOOOOOORRRLD, CHARLIE “GRAPPLER” MAAAAAAAAAATTHEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” … “WHAT THE HELL!?” begins Suicide King, as the camera pans back to the field…to see DOMINIC KORGATH swinging his iron staff…RIGHT INTO THE BACK OF THE HEAD OF CROW! *THWACK* The Antichrist Superstar slumps to the ground, as the other three men turn around to see what just happened! **DOUBLE BOOM!!!!!!!~!** As Va’aiga and Aecas try to advance at Korgath, they’re blindsided as ENGLISH DRAGON and SCOTT SOLOMON slam Va’aiga and Aecas in the side of the head, respectively, using CINDER BLOCKS!! “Holy Shit!” ”Holy Shit!” Va’aiga and Aecas simply crumple to the ground from the explosion of the cinder blocks against their heads. Grappler is now fully aware of what’s going on, but as he drops his belt and clenches his fists, ready to fight, the three men surround him, slowly inching closer. The crowd begins a loud “Grappler!” chant, and without further ado… “He’s cornered, three-on-one!” says Suicide King, gleefully, “There is NO WAY he can fight these odds!” “But,” shoots in Axis, “WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?!” With cat-like quickness, Matthews charges forward, sending a stinging right cross into the face of English Dragon, taking him down! Solomon runs at him but eats a back fist, and Korgath is hit with a kick to the midsection. The buzz in the Metrodome grows louder, as Grappler turns around… *BOOM* …into a sledgehammer swing to the face, dropping him to the field, out cold. The other three men rise to their feet and gather around the fallen Grappler, as the man with the sledgehammer makes his face visible to the camera for the first time. JOHN DURAN. “Oh my God,” begins Axis, “…this can’t be.” The Sinner stares down at the fallen Champion, no emotion in his eyes. The four men gather together, surveying the damage they’ve done. “What is the purpose,” continues Axis, “of this onslaught?! What do these four men have in common?!” “Who cares?” asks Suicide King, “look at the carnage they’ve caused! They just took out two top SJL superstars, not to mention two SWF wrestlers! These guys are a force to be reckoned with!” The fifty five thousand Minneapolis fans begin throwing garbage onto the field, trying to hit any of the four superstars with full cups, food, and balls. “Well, whoever they are,” says Axis, “it’s a shame they had to put a damper on quite possibly the most fun, entertaining SJL show of all time. Ladies and gentlemen, Wrathapalooza II was full of fun, surprises, twists, and unique wrestling. Thank you all for letting us into your living rooms. For Suicide King, I’m Axis, good night. DAMN YOU, John Duran.” Solomon, Dragon, Korgath, and the Sinner begin walking to the back, but John Duran turns around one more time, mouthing two words to Grappler, Aecas, and everyone watching Wrathapalooza around the world. URBAN DECAY SJL METAL, JULY 22ND, 2003 After the brutal beating of Charlie Matthews, Aecas, Crow, and Va’aiga, the Urban Decay--now endorsed by SJL Commissioner Chris Raynor--was ready to strike again, as the leader went after their target and the reason for the creation of the Decay--to eliminate Charlie Matthews. After walking up the Stairway to Hell, Duran sent Charlie crashing back down into its depths. “Ladies and gentlemen, the winner of this match, and STIIIIIIIIILLLLL ESSSSS JAAAAAAAY EEELLLLLLLLLL HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WOOOOOOOOOORLD……CHAAAAAAARLIE “GRAPPLER” MAAAAAAAATTHEWSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” The camera cuts back to the ring after King’s words…to see John Duran back in the ring, behind Grappler…holding a steel chair! *CRACK!* Duran swings for the fences and connects the chair with the back of Charlie’s head, dropping him to the canvas as the crowd begins to savagely boo the leader of Urban Decay. The Sinner drops the chair and walks over to the spool of barbed wire, and unrolls it completely, throwing the empty spool outside of the ring and laying all of the barbed wire in a pile in the center of the ring. … Noticing something missing, he walks over to the corner of the ring and picks up THE KEROSENE SOAKED TOWEL. He then pulls the lighter out again, holding against the towel and igniting it once again!! He quickly throws it onto the pile of barbed wire, and a bonfire begins inside of the ring! Referees Soapdish, Hardcastle, and Long all come to the ring to try and stop Duran, but he simply shoves them all away, staring intently at Grappler. He picks up the unmoving champion and hoists him onto his shoulders in an inverted fireman’s carry, before walking over to the fire. “Oh my God…” With Duran’s back to the barbed wire flame, he pushes Grappler’s legs back and spins him around, dropping him ALL THE WAY DOWN ONTO THE FLAMING BARBED WIRE WITH THE BLUNT FORCE TRAUMA!!!!!!!!!!!!! “NO!!!!!!” Axis’ scream carries over the scene of a bloody Grappler, the burn marks covering his back. And then black. … “You will not be seeing Charlie Matthews anytime tonight…or EVER again in the SJL!” Five days after his match with Manson, Matthews moved to the Smartmarks Wrestling Federation. Charlie had moved on to the big leagues; even though Duran would go on to win the SJL World Heavyweight Title that night...it was not enough. Having missed the opportunity to get that decisive victory over Charlie Matthews, John Duran would have to wait patiently for his call to the big leagues. It would not take long. SWF GENESIS IV, SEPTEMBER 28TH, 2003 Long after that last meeting in the SJL, Charlie and John were set for another confrontation--although they would never meet face to face on that night, fate was about to throw a wrench into the tensions of John Duran and Charlie Matthews. As Show nears the top, Crow takes a deep breath… but nothing can prepare him for what he is about to do… HE LEAPS OFF THE PLATFORM! Pulling a half a flip in midair, he wraps one arm around Show’s neck, the big man roaring as he falls backwards, off the Versaclimber as well! Both men fall, Crow’s arm wrapped around Show’s neck, ALL THE WAY D O W N ! *CRASH!* The two land, twenty-five feet later, Show’s neck nearly snapping as it jars against Crow’s shoulder! Both men are unmoving, and show no signs of life… the impact probably knocked them unconscious, but the Live Studio Audience™ ROARS… Earlier in the night, John Duran defeated English Dragon, effectively bringing an end to the Urban Decay. Duran had moved on. Seemingly free of the demons that haunted him in the SJL, Duran was poised to move up. And one man was willing to give him that chance. "Okay. I have a problem. See, at Genesis, Show took that huge neckbreaker from twenty-five feet in the air, and with his neck already damaged from his match with Kibagami... well, he's hurting, and in a big way. He's going to be out of active competition for a while." "Quiz, if you don't have a partner then you can't be a tag team with anyone. I think I'm going to have to vacate the belts...." "What if I can find a partner?" "Well, Quiz, if you could find a partner then I guess he could replace Show in the tag team. But you're going to have to find him before the end of the show." This exchange between Quiz and new SWF Commissioner Mark Stevens would lead to… "Hollywood Squares" by the Dillinger Escape Plan with Mike Patton begins to throb over the sound system, the fans unsure of what is happening until Quiz leaps out onto the stage, tag title over his shoulder! The calmer John Duran steps out from backstage, tag title around his waist as the Sinner calmly walks down the ramp, following his slightly more rambunctious tag team partner as he calls for a microphone. “I had the good fortune to run into John Duran, so ladies and gentlemen, your ESS-DOUBLEYOU-EFF TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS, Quiz and "The Sinner" John Duran, SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN-QUIIIIII-ZITION!" This newfound team would hit disaster all too soon, however… BAM! Tossing the chain into the crowd, The Judge pushes Ejiro on top of the downed ‘Sinner’ just as the referee turns to see the pinning combination! Diving across the ring and sliding into position, Kivell counts as Quiz explodes out of the corner to make the save! ONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNE! Judge tries to make the interception! TWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! And Quiz kicks him in the jimmies! THREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! BUT IT’S TOO DAMN LATE! DING! DING! DING! “The winners of the match and NEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW SWF TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS… WILLIAM HEARFORD and EJIRO FASAKI … JUSTICE AND RUUUUUUUULLLLLLLLLLLLLLE!” After losing the SWF Tag Team Titles to one of the most dominant tag teams in SWF history, John Duran and Charlie Matthews would go their separate ways again, never meeting again until they met under the most unusual of circumstances… Flash to an image of Charlie Matthews, John Duran, James Matheson, and Va’aiga, standing in the same ring…and not destroying each other. “THESE wrestlers are the heart of the federation.” Forming an unlikely alliance, the threesome of Charlie, John, and Va’aiga was formed for the benefit of every member in the group, to bring them all to the next level. Each man who was in the Unnamed--as they would come to be named--would rise to superstardom, and it would be with the help of the other two men. To say it was a shaky alliance would be an understatement. But somehow, it worked. BOOM “OHHHHH!” In an instant, Charlie and Duran drop to their knees at the same time, with Janus’ back slamming against the shoulder of Charlie and his neck wrenching against the shoulder of Duran from the neckbreaker! Duran exits the ring in a hurry, making sure that Dace isn’t going to try and make a sudden recovery and break the pinfall as Grappler covers Terrence! With order restored and Matheson recovering, he begins to hear the pinfall count. “ONE!” “TWO!” “THREE!” “BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” DING DING DING “Here are your winners,” Funyon begins, “The Notorious John Duran and Charlie…GRAPPLER…MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTTHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEWS !” It just wasn’t meant to last, however. February 1st brought with it the first pay-per-view event of the year in the Clusterfuck. On that night, two of the Unnamed members stepped forward and fulfilled the purpose of the group--both in their own special ways. With the High Priest of Horrorcore doubled over, the Notorious One lifts Dace onto his shoulders in an inverted fireman’s carry, once again signaling the Blunt Force Trauma! With the crowd’s jeering ringing in his ears, Duran walks over near the ropes, and he spins Dace’s body around! Night goes flying over the top rope, but in a last ditch effort, Night holds onto Duran’s head on the way down, which pulls Duran over the top rope…and BOTH MEN HIT THE FLOOR! “DOUBLE ELIMINATION!” screams Riley, “What the HELL is that?! That MUST’VE been cheating on behalf of Dace. I mean, technically, he was already eliminated as he was pulling Duran out of the ring, almost! It’s like blasphemy or somesuch!” “Unbelievable! Unprecedented!” Comet follows up, “I don’t think I’ve EVER seen anything like that before! I just can’t believe it!” … “DON’T LET IT END THIS WAY!” screams Comet, “This can’t happen! Michael Craven used the Gulf Coast Crunch, not Charlie Matthews! Damn it, this can’t be happening!” “This isn’t about who does what, Comet!” replies Riley, “It’s about who’s the smartest and the craftiest! Matthews is taking full advantage of a right place right time situation!” “ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” “TWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” “T H R E E E E E E E EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” *D – I – N – G D – I – N – G D- I – N – G* “LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,” he begins, “THE WINNER OF THE TWO -THOUSAND AND FOUR CLUUUUUUUSTERFUCK, CHAAAAAAAAAAARLIE ‘GRAPPLER’ MAAAAAAAAAAAATTHEWSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!” … Riley: THE VA’AIGA STINGER! THE VA’AIGA STINGER! Va’aiga lays on the mat gasping for breath and lazily drapes an arm over the semi conscious Williams. Mark Hebner drops again to count, slapping his arm slowly down on the mat… ONE! TWO! THREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! John Duran leaps into the ring, grabbing Va’aiga and thrusting the semi conscious Maori’s arm in the air. Duran barks out an order as Funyon throws the world title belt into the ring for the Maori Badass to catch. *BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO* Funyon: Your winner and the NEW HEEEEEEEEEEEEAVYWEIIIIIIIIGHT CHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMPION OF THE WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORLD… VAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA’AAAAAAAAAIGAAAAAAAAA TUUUUUUUUUU’IIIIIIIPOLOTUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!” The three members of the Unnamed went in all different directions with their careers. The fallout would be much more severe, however. “Grappler,” Duran addresses the Clusterfuck winner, “do you realize that you’re the ICTV Champion? Have you been paying attention during this time where you’ve been admittedly kicking ass? You’ve won the Clusterfuck, yes, but you don’t NEED to cause the turmoil, you don’t NEED to cause the hassle that cashing in that title shot would cause.” Matheson has his own microphone, and injects his comments. “It is my informed legal opinion that Mr. Duran is right.” However, Grappler grabs the mic from his manager and begins to SPEAK~! “I know that Va’aiga has the belt, and that Va’aiga is one tough bastard.” Va’aiga is smiling on the inside at this comment, but can’t smile on the outside since his cheekbone is healing. “I understand that the Unnamed works on the strength of many. But last night I beat NINETEEN men, nineteen mine who all earned the right to become SWF superstars. I pinned Terrence Bailey, the 7 foot psychopath, while Michael Craven, who is one tough SOB, looked on. We fought long and hard and...I hope I earned their respect.” At this point, Duran is beginning to lose what Grappler is trying to say. “As much as you don’t want to hear this, Va’aiga, I want to earn YOUR respect.” The crowd is somewhat confused until the Grappler continues. “So I will be cashing in my title shot at From The Fire, and if you’re up to the challenge, Va’aiga, you’ll not beat me once, or twice, or three times, but in TWO. STRAIGHT. FALLS.” “WHAT?” Matheson repeats Riley’s sentiments. “You know something, Mr. Matthews, it’s my professional opinion that you’re CRAZY IN YOUR COCONUT. You’d throw away all that the Unnamed has earned for the sake of your own personal glory? You’d throw away the chance to sweep the belts for your...OUR stable? You’d ruin all the chances of sustained glory for your own little slice of the main event, is that it? Well, my legal advice is to inform you to WATCH YOUR ASS.” Grappler has a confused look on his face, and the crowd is silent. “As the legal representative of the Unnamed, I must inform you that...YOU ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRE FIRED!” Duran snaps, however, still fuming. “I never liked you, Grappler. You were nothing to the Unnamed anyway. NOTHING. And I knew you’d do this to us one day. But I went along with it. I had your back and YOU! YOU TURNED YOUR BACK ON ME, AND YOU TURNED YOUR BACK ON THE MAORI BADASS!” SWF FROM THE FIRE, MARCH 7TH, 2004 In one night, the whole landscape of the SWF changed. “There’s nowhere to run for Citizen Duran! Someone get the EMTs, quick!” The light bulbs are already flashing, as Terrence, without a care in the world for the life he holds by the neck, shoves Duran off the structure, Duran’s grip failing. “OH MY GOD!” Both announcers scream in unison. Duran falls and falls, as 15 feet becomes nothing but solid mat. Down… Down… Down. BOOM “SOMEONE CALL 911!” Riley screams, and Comet is shocked into silence. “For the love of God, SOMEONE CALL 9-1-1!” … Both men hit the mat, and as soon as they do, Grappler twists the limp right arm of Va’aiga behind his back, presses his left across his windpipe, and latches on the CROSSFACE CHICKENWING!!! ”TAP OUT!” “TAP OUT!” “TAP OUT!” TAP TAP TAP *DING DING DING!* “LAAAAAAAAADIES AND GENTLEMEN!!!” Funyon cries, “THE WINNER OF THIS CONTEST, AAAAAAAAAAND NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEWWW SMARKS WRESTLING FEDERATION HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WOOOOOOOOOOORLD, CHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARLIE ‘GRAPPLER’ MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTHEWSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!” It took longer to reach the top of the SWF than it took to reach the top of the SJL, but Charlie Matthews had done it nonetheless. However, now it was time for his to face his biggest challenge to date. After Va’aiga was fired for attacking the Commissioner, John Duran saw his opportunity and answered the door. “You had every right to fire, Va’aiga, Mark. I just want to remind you that you’ll never be able to do that to the Unnamed again!” “From this point forward, I will be the leader of the Unnamed! Todd-blessed and approved by Mr. Matheson himself, I can promise that this latest casualty to the Unnamed ranks will be the last one!” “Listen up, Charlie!” Duran begins to yell back towards the locker room, making sure he’s loud and clear. “I’ve watched you destroy this group from the inside, and then leave so you can desecrate it. And now I’m taking a stand! As leader of this group, I’m going to right YOUR wrongs. You won the big Cluster*BEEP* match, and you made the choice to go after the SWF World Title. Congratulations, Charlie. You’re the SWF World Heavyweight Champion. But you’re also a terrible, terrible man who should be reprimanded for the firing of Va’aiga for this company! IT’S ALL YOUR FAULT, CHARLIE!” “THIS MONSTER LIVES~” “You never respected me, John, and you could barely pretend to do so for the sake of the Unnamed. And looking into your eyes right now, John, I can tell that disrespect is still there. But you brought this onto yourself. I moved on to better things, because THAT’S WHAT I DO. You never chased me off from the SJL, Duran. I saw the opportunity to move up the ladder, and I took it. You need to realize that I was going to get the upper hand on you. I always have, and I always will. It has nothing to do with ego, John, my statements are not based on what I think of myself.” “You don’t have the Trinity on your side anymore, they’re doing their own thing. And how long do you think Ann is going to stay on your side against the three Unnamed members? If we were to fight two weeks from now, you’d go down Charlie.” “When you feel better, Johnny, you just bring it.” SWF SMARKDOWN, MARCH 22ND, 2004 Duran’s all better… “Who’s that jumping over the barrier?” Riley points to his right as a man hops the barrier. Once he slides into the ring rather swiftly, the identity of this guardrail-jumping man is revealed... JOHN DURAN! “Turn around, Citizen Matthews!” Comet tries to warn the champion, but it is far too late as Duran sneaks up behind Charlie and puts him in an inverted fireman’s carry! “Synthetic” comes to an abrupt end but the boos rage on louder than ever! “Yes, yes, yes!” Riley is besides himself as he watches Duran lift Charlie Matthews up onto his shoulders! With a swing of his body, he sends the bulky frame of Matthews around the back of his shoulders and then drops down to the mat on his back, slamming the chin of Charlie against his shoulder and snapping the champion’s head back with a Blunt Force Trauma! “BLUNT FORCE TRAUMA!” Riley and Comet both yell in unison. Duran gets to his feet, taking his neck brace up and throwing it to the crowd as the boos do not cease, only getting louder as the Notorious One yells obscenities at the crowd and gives them a proud middle finger, moving his head from side-to-side to show that he’s better than ever! “Duran is back, he’s baaaaaack!” Riley is almost orgasmic in his glee, but Comet is not as cheerful. “I almost hoped that there would be some justice in this world and that Duran would remain with that neck brace on!” Duran turns around to Grappler on the ground and immediately begins to stomp away on the crowd, only inciting the crowd further and making the boos almost deafening inside the arena as the boots slam into Grappler’s head and neck, aggravating the pain from the Blunt Force Trauma! “Someone put a stop to this!” Comet demands as Riley cackles. SWF STORM, APRIL 9TH, 2004 And after weeks of torturing, it’s made official… Earlier today, before Storm goes on the air, a camera tracks a limo pulling up in the parking garage behind the Joe Louis Arena. The door opens as the limo comes to a stop, and Duran comes out, followed by the remaining members of the Unnamed, including James Matheson (although his appearances have been rare as of late). Duran walks towards the backstage area with his stable in tow, when referee Anthony Michael Hall runs up to Duran. "John!" Hall yells to the stable leader, and Duran comes to a halt. "What is it?" Duran asks, annoyed and wondering what could be going on now. "The word just came from Commissioner Zenon. You'll be facing Charlie Matthews for the SWF Title at Battleground." A smile crawls across Duran's face and the other Unnamed members smirk as well. "Thanks, Anthony." The Unnamed walk past Anthony Michael Hall, and the referee looks back at the group as the camera fades to black, the cue to open Storm. Now. Almost one year to the day that Charlie Matthews and John Duran had their first meeting in the ring, everything has come full circle. This time, however, John Duran is not the champion, John Duran is the challenger. Charlie Matthews is the champion. Almost a month after Duran’s debut, Charlie took the SJL and the SWF by storm, leaving John Duran behind. Duran has fought for respect and honor, however. Once again, these two stand toe-to-toe. This time, only one can walk out as the SWF World Heavyweight Champion. The leader of the Unnamed against the leader of the people, everything that stands for good in the SWF. The Unnamed can’t help Duran now. John Duran’s opportunity has finally come. With the burden of defeat hanging over his head against Charlie Matthews…what will it take to shake the monkey off Duran’s back, once and for all? Or will Charlie Matthews finally get rid of the thorn in his side and eliminate the threat that Duran presents to him? Don’t let the records of these two men fool you. There are no underdogs.
