kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2004 What are these music channels? Do they play music videos or just audio music? Yeah, the play music plus have little fact-oids on the band, song, etc. When I got Digital Cable for a few months I stumbled upon these channels. Played them for an hour or so, then forgot all about them...
haVoc 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2004 Well, there are more video channels, but there are also channels that play just music when you have digital cable. It's kinda like having something for almost every taste in music. I love those channels. I'm listening to "Power Rock" at the moment. "Prodigal Blues" - - Billy Idol
Mole 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2004 I have Comcast Digital Cable at home and I love it. My Pops either works, plays golf, or watch TV so of course we have all of the channels you can get, other than the HD channels. The only thing that I don't like is that we only have 4-5 PPV channels. Go Cable.
Cherry Blossom Viscount 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2004 Satellite is good, yet it sucks. Example; I turn on the TV to watch Sunday Night Heat, Spike TV is missing. Looks like a repeat of Friday where a number, well, 90% of the channels were missing. Dish Network never offers an explanation for this, the channels just dissapear, and then reappear without much fanfare. Sad, truly sad. I live in Houston by the way. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted April 26, 2004 Depends on the VCR. Mine still tapes excellent. They make VCR's too Yeah, but the quality of tape is really shitty. That's why TiVo is better...And it's easier to program as well as more reliable too..
Styles 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2004 In summary, Satelite's advantage is in quality, since all channels are digital instead of analog (cable just the "digital" channels are). If you're a football fan, Direct TV has exclusive rights to the NFL Season package, and there is a regional sports package so you can watch other sports teams from various regions as well (pending local blackouts). Satelite is generally cheaper as well. I have digital cable and think it's the way to go. Especially if you are in a stormy area. Everything I've heard is that the two problems with satelite are that it goes out during storms, and you need a clear path to the satelite, so in fact trees, etc. could effect the signal. I don't know how TW is but I have Comcast and in terms of movie packages and PPVs it matches and might even exceed the choices of satelite. The best feature is Video On Demand, which is a digital library of shows and movies avaliable to start watching at any time and can be paused and fast forwarded like a video tape. If you are a wrestling fan, I would want to have this since WWE On Demand is coming and I don't know how satelite could offer it. They also have new TiVo style boxes too, so you don't have to buy a seperate TiVo and subscribe. Just pay 10 dollars extra a month and you have a digital recorder. The music channels you mention are a library of non commercial, digital quality radio stations playing a variety of genres. Its like XM Radio only through the cable. Probably the best thing about cable is you can bundle your cable TV with high speed cable internet for one low price (lower than say getting Direct TV and then paying a seperate company for DSL). Now, if you don't want a high speed internet (I dont know why you wouldn't though), its not an issue I guess. So, I would def. go with cable, especially given your weather situation. Video On Demand is exclusive to digital cable and is awesome and you still get all the movie packages and sports packages (well except NFL), that you would get with Satellite and you can bundle cable internet with it for one low price. MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2004 Well, there are more video channels, but there are also channels that play just music when you have digital cable. It's kinda like having something for almost every taste in music. I have Directv which has Music Choice, but Dish Network is getting Sirius Satelite radio stations sometime this summer since they just recently signed a deal. As far as Tivo is concerned, Directv has Tivo boxes that only cost an additional $5 a month which makes them cheaper than regular Tivo boxes and other DVRs. You can also get the standard 35 hour model for $99 or less. As far as weather outages with Directv, I have maybe 1 a month at most, and it has to be a really bad storm with thick clouds. A couple times, I lost the signal and then I lost electric, so it doesn't really matter that I lost the signal. Best example of this was in September during Hurricane Isabel when we had a signal during the peak of the storm and then lost electric due to a downed power line, but it was right back up as soon as we got power back the next day. As far as price, I pay $40 a month for everything but movie channels and locals because they aren't available, although Im getting NY (east) and LA (west) feeds of NBC and Fox because we don't even have local Fox and NBC stations. Directv's everything package runs like $90 with all the movie channels and all of the regional sports networks although the RSNs are blacked for games except the ones that Im able to see (Comcast Sports Net). The major reason have Directv (as well as a larger satellite dish which I use to get early feeds of stuff like Smackdown) is because I live just a bit too far out to get cable. Comcast won't run cable out my way because there are only about 2 houses back here and neither of them are interested in cable since they have Directv as well. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted April 26, 2004 I also have learned that if you want the NFL package, you can buy it without buying the cable service as an a la carte service from DirecTV, and they'll provide the equipment and installation free of charge as well. So, if you want NBA, MLB, or NHL packages, you have the choice on digital cable, but if you want NFL, just buy it from DirecTV without the service, just the NFL Sunday Ticket. I think that's what most sports bars do.
