Yep. Don't lend them to people you can't trust, and just keep them in the case. Open them, watch the DVD, put them back. That's basicly it.

Take case out, open case, grab on the edge of dvd with fingers and remove disc from case, insert disc in player, watch, remove disc from player by grabbing the edge with fingers, push it down on the case tray, close case, put case away

 

Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

Well case just means whatever you keep them in. If you keep yours in one of those travel CD binders, that's the DVD case.

I am one person that you'll find that wouldn't put DVD's in one of these. Maybe it's because I'm anal about shit like that, or because I've gotten mysterious broken CD's when I used to store them in the said books.

Ummm, just take care of them.

 

I keep all of my DVDs on my little shelf (it's overflowing though, I need a new setup now that I have 200+) and I never leave a disc sitting out. When I finish with one, I put it in it's case.

 

I would like to spread the good news of Goo Gone though. It's the greatest product that I've come across that does away with any and all stickyness and stickers and labels.

I don't even like keeping CDs in those CD travel binders. Sliding them in and out makes it really easy to scratch if the felt inside the sleeve (or the sleeve itself if it is one of the cardboard / plastic type) has anything on it. I'll keep mine in the original cases, thanks.

It isn't a big issue if you take care of it.

 

About DVDs, I never have them outside of the case unless it is in the player. In the case, you don't have to be that careful with them. I just avoid damp areas or places that would be left out in direct sunlight. I'm not sure whether I need to, but it is just common sense for most equipment.

Amen to that. My brother doesn't take care of his DVDs. He just leaves them on the DVD player. When I let one of my friends borrow a DVD, and he leaves it on his desk, I freak out, and emphasize to him that the DVD should either be in the case or in the player. When I left Disc 3 of the Ric Flair collection in my friend's PS2, we went outside for a while. When we came back, his little brother was playing a game, and had taken out the DVD and put it face up on the table. I almost had a heart attack!

Freaking out over a DVD sitting info side down, is a complete over reaction. Such people should be mocked. It would take more than sitting it info side down to hurt the disc. If someone decides to play Air Hockey with it sitting info side down, then fine freak out.

 

If I knew enough people that may freak out over it, I'd start using DVDs I don't care about as coasters.

If I walked into a room and some kid had removed my DVD from the DVD player, and had it sitting face down I'd freak out. Not over it just simply sitting there, but instead because I wouldn't know how rough he was with it, or what.

 

Nothing wrong with gently sitting a DVD face down on a solid surface, but there is something wrong if they placed it down rough like. Seeing how I wouldn't know how they acted with it, I'd freak out over seeing it like that.

 

I've been guilty of placing a DVD face down on a counter top or something while changing discs, etc...

I'd freak out because I'm obsessive compulsive. I'm diseased, I can't help it. One time I beat somebody with a pipe over an argument about a bleach stain on a futon. True story.

that's what i do, my friends always get mad at me because they tell me to lend them some movie, but i know they're the type that leave any disc sitting by the computer out of his case for a week, then they break/lose the case, etc.

 

i had alot of problems lending CD's in the past and since i got my first DVD i made a promise to never ever lend one to anyone.

Well, I'm pretty damn picky, so mine are:

 

- In player or in case. NO EXCEPTIONS.

- Don't push discs back into case with bare hands, or the disc will get fingerprints on it.

- No lending. EVER.

- Dust cover over racks, as well as to avoid sunlight.

- Cleans hands when handling discs.

 

There are more, but they are extremely picky ones that you don't care about.

 

Downhome, I know what you mean about younger kids. Some people think that just because you face a disc down, it doesn't do anything. Well, what about dust? And I'm sure that it can be scratched somehow... And I don't trust anyone under (or just over) 25. Come to think of it, I don't trust anyone.

 

You have younger relatives over, and the room if off-limits. At least for me.
