No. Absolutely not.

Fluff.

Wow - very interesting.

I'd like to be able to believe some things such as this, and I think that it's possible with this story.

But there isn't a lot to support the case.

Reincarnation is supposed to be a bad thing. You don't want to believe in it. Or if you do, it's not something you want to happen.

I don't think that it's intended as either a bad or a good thing.

It's a theory for the afterlife.

No, it's bad. If you haven't accomplished what you were supposed to in life, you're reincarnated. Once you do, the cycle stops and you achieve Nirvana.

You can trust me, I went to high school with the Dalai Lama.

IDRM is actually pretty spot on. IF one is to believe in it (and I'd recommend that you don't), reincarnation is a bad thing. It generally means you failed in some respect and have not achieved "nirvana".

So does anyone have any experiences they liken to a past life memory?

I had one dream that felt very, very real. I was in a World War, riding on a tank, I believe, through a European field when an explosion went off underneath and I was thrown from the tank. By the time I got back to a kneeling position, Germans ran out from the thickets. I raised my arms in surrender, but one just lunged forward and gouged my throat with a bayonette anyway. I saw blood shooting straight out of my neck. I crumpled into a heap while I spiraled upwards, away from my body. My last thoughts were to a pair of old people that I don't know, but in my dream I recognized as my parents, back home in Ohio or Iowa or something like that, receiving the news. Most likely a dream, but it felt so incredibly real. Plus, it's fun to speculate that it was.

There are 1000s of interesting stories like that out there. The major media pretty

much ignores it, choosing instead instead to cover important stuff like "American Idol"

or "Who is J-Lo dating now?"

Dr. Ian Stevenson of the Univ. of Virginia has been researching cases like that since the 1960s.

He definately isn't in it for the money, as he refuses to do tv or radio interviews.

A good intro book on the subject is Many Lives, Many Masters by Dr. Brian Weiss.

Here is a good reincarnation forum.

IMO, reincarnation, like most things that try to explain what happens after death, is complete rubbish.  You either rot in a box or an urn.  That's it.

How do you know?

I don't. That's why I prefaced everything with "IMO." Some people believe in Heaven and Hell, reincarnation, whatever. I just don't believe in the afterlife at all, since the whole thing seems rather ridiculous.

Don't bother trying to reason with him.

How do you know?

How do you know otherwise?

There is all the proof in the world that people rot in the ground when they die. It is not Tom's job here to prove he is right, because he already is.

If anyone should be asking the 'How do you know?' question, it's Dr.Tom in this situation.

Ok...

I wasn't trying to be a smart ass. My point is Nobody knows. So why should anyone act like they do?
