UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2004 Fuck Inoki. Trying to actually put his promotion in the same league as WWE with a blatantly not-going-to-be-answered challenge. Bush league.
El Psycho Diablo 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2004 As crazy as Inoki is, he never had his top star* humping a "corpse" on TV. That may be bad, but WWE's done a whole load of bonehaded things themselves in the last few years, too. In fact, WWE's -worse-, if just for the fact they willingly cost themselves sponsors by doing stupid stunts, and screwing up the biggest angle in wrestling history. Not to mention their number one guy (who had stated multiple times he'd hated WCW), was leading the "invasion", when he was WWF/E to the core. (shrugs) If NJPW's bush league for calling out the WWE, then what the hell is WWE? *as they see it, not me.

UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2004 WWE was just written extremely badly at that point. They were attempting "Shock TV" instead of focusing on the in-ring talent like they are now.
El Psycho Diablo 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2004 WWE was just written extremely badly at that point. They were attempting "Shock TV" instead of focusing on the in-ring talent like they are now. "At that point"? *eyes Smackdown currently, and Raw just a few short months ago* I suppose Angle's nearly dying, and the stupid Taker stuff will produce great, technical matches, hm? The only reason they're pushing the "in-ring talent" is because they're super desperate for stars at this point, and guys like Benoit and Guerrero have been loyal to the company since joining it. (Translation: Big enough to fill the gap, not big enough to hold the company up for money) They've lost Brock, Austin, and Goldberg already. Trips is going out to film a movie, and Angle may or may not wrestle again. Foley's unreliable, and who knows how long Michaels, Flair, Taker, and Booker T will still be wrestling? They've got no choice but to push these guys, until the next bunch of main eventers (Ortton, Cena, etc) are ready. Besides, look at the whole Eugene angle. They still try for shock segments, even if most of them don't work. (The worst of the most recent ones were the necrophilia, and Billy/Chuck didn't do what they intended, either.) Right now RAW has been excellent since Maina and NJPW? Running with BOB FUCKING SAPP as champion. Plus they've shitted away guys like Nakamura and Nagata on shootfighting. If Inoki's not careful, one of his guys is gonna get killed out there. Inoki's just jealous because Vince can hold his own against PRIDE.

UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2004 Yes, they used to be written poorly. Right now, I think WWE is being written well. Benoit's title reign works. Michaels has become an entertaining player for the past year. Evolution are very entertaining. Foley/Orton was good. Christian's become a player, Trish became fresh. Jericho's done a successful face turn. We've said goodbye to useless talent like Austin (not a writing decision, but he was slowly being fazed out), Goldberg, Nash, etc. On Smackdown, well the show sucks. It's still written decently, for some parts. Booker T has been given a new direction. RVD may flourish, if he has suitable workers to have matches with. They brought back Taker, which I believe will slowly lose elements remaining of the Biker character. Bradshaw's storyline, well...he sucks in the ring, but plays a decent corporate heel. Match quality is different than story telling. For instance, Cena Vs. Dupree has been decently built. Both characters strong points are emphasized. New stars made. Will the match hit ****? Most likely not a chance. But it has a decent build. Smackdown! overall just reeks of overused, lame characters. However, their angles aren't awful. So Big Show killed Angle. So what? That's what happened. Show is gone, and as long as they explain it that he'd fired/suspended/arrested/whatever, it's coherent. Kurt Angle fucking sucks anyway as a heel "GM", and sucks as a face, for that matter. So get Angle off TV.
Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Report post Posted April 29, 2004 SmackDown needs a star now, and a few new faces for down the road. Then it'll be cool.
reign 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2004 As long as we are on the subject of SD! as well as competing against New Japan the WWE just need to send the cruisers into overdrive for a while...at least one cruiser singles match or title match with a six man tag to start the show...every damn week!! ChrisMWaters 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2004 Personally, I'd LOVE to see New Japan somehow get a TV deal over here in the states. More variety in wrestling = Good Thing. Plus, I'm partially a mark for things Japanese.

Guest MikeSC Report post Posted April 29, 2004 Even as New Japan has deteriorated in the past few years, it is still streets better than WWE has ever, or will ever be. Jim Ross should get a clue, or shut up. The actual talented guys in WWE are now all either jumping off the sinking ship or being forced out due to the WWE's, and in particular Jim Ross, lack of any clue on what might pass for "good wrestling" or "entertaining programming". Austin, GB, and Lesnar are the talented ones, but HHH, Benoit, and Guerrero AREN'T? Got it. -=Mike
cynicalprofit 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2004 Work or not it's drawing attention. Which is what keeps it going. Maybe Inoki is nuts, but I for one would love to see something DIFFERENT on WWE tv, like NJPW wrestlers. Lord knows they can't be as bas as some of the WWE workers have been. Zach-whats-his-name....Albert, Bradshaw......and the list goes on. And how many wrestlers learned things from watching Japanese wrestling? God most of the good wrestlers wrestled there at some point or another in their career. It makes money in Japan, maybe it could draw here. Hell anime, pokemon, and Power Rangers showed us that things from Japan can draw big money in America. I keep hoping Spike or USA, or some station, gets access to old japanese wrestling footage, just to see if it would draw ratings. Can't do worse then what heats done. As for Inoki and Sapp, Sapp is about as equal to Hogan, in terms of "superstar", in Japan, as far as I've been able to understand, and if he draws, its a good move. If he's not drawing, then others are right, he has no reason to be champ. But if he's making money, push him to the moon. Of corse maybe this is all a work so the WWE can have an excuse to NOT put some of Benoit's Japanese footage on his DVD, instead of forking over whatever they were asking for it. reign 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2004 Bob Sapp is the fucking MAN! in Japan....people are going nuts over the guy...especially because of how stiff he works..it is very much like Hogan as you said only not on a global scale...this thing with NJPW would only work with t.v. deals so I don't expect much
Tawren 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2004 HHH putting people over. Lost to Benoit at WMXX Lost to Benjamin via fluke roll-up on Raw Lost to Benjamin via count out Lost to Benoit when Benoit made HBK tap ... ... Only one that I'd count would be WMXX. 4 losses in a month, two where he wasn't pinned, one where it was a fluke roll-up and played as such, isn't all that great. Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2004 Bah God Dem J&Ps are stealing my Lov errr My Favorite Hoss!!! How dare they!! I will have them all Drowning in my BBQ sauce ARRGHHHH!!!! This is so funny that I'd make it my sig for the week if I didn't find it so offensive at the same time. And Zsaz, I wouldn't say the average IWC fan has bootleg tapes. I know there's a Japanese wrestling scene out there, and that the workrate is higher than WWE, and I don't care and I don't watch it except for some "Best of" compilations of wrestlers I like. It's worthless to me if I can't follow it on a regular basis and go to the live show when it comes to town (never.)
