Guest Cerebus Report post Posted April 28, 2004 An introduced bill that would: The Congress may, if two thirds of each House agree, reverse a judgment of the United States Supreme Court-- (1) if that judgment is handed down after the date of the enactment of this Act; and (2) to the extent that judgment concerns the constitutionality of an Act of Congress. Though I think this bill is grossly overstepping Congress's consitutional bounds, judging by the author's memo he's mainly offering it to bring up discussion about very real problems with the federal justice system. kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2004 Of course, the SC would just rule this unconstitutional or something. Man, what I wouldn't give to be a judge. Get paid bunches of money, wear cool robes (with nothing underneath) and just give your opinion all day. Talk about a dream come true...

Get paid bunches of money, wear cool robes (with nothing underneath) and just give your opinion all day. Talk about a dream come true... Which the Congress would overturn based on this law. Then we get an Abbott and Costello routine: SCOTUS: This law is unconstitutional. Congress: Well we overturn that decision. SCOTUS: But its unconstitutional. Congress: Right, but with this law we just declared your decision to make this unconstiutional to be oveturned. SCOTUS: Correct, but your decleration that our decision to make this unconstitional is oveturned is unconstiutional. And so on.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2004 Well, if it keeps them busy and not trying to enact more stupid policies then that's a good thing (kinda like the Clinton impeachment)...

Highland 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2004 -shrug- I suppose it could act as a counterbalance to some of the recent policy-making decisions of the SC. Then again, maybe not.

They have one, but I heard it requires some more paperwork and somebody has to call the states or something.

teke184 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2004 This is another version of FDR's court-packing attempt during the 1930s. This is just Congress's way of saying "If you keep messing with us, we WILL curb your powers." The question is whether the justices will give them the finger or tone themselves down. Guest Crazy Dan Report post Posted April 29, 2004 I just finshed watching the Daily Show, and I think tomorrow's investigative report will have a female reporter (I don't know her name, sorry) interviewing one of the authors of the bill, and boy it looks hilarious. She talks like a Vally Girl. Could be very funny, especially if the guy doesn't realize he is being made to look like an idiot. Love that show.
