friends, presided over one of the largest corporate bankruptcy frauds in

world history (Kenneth Lay, former CEO of Enron Corporation).

•I spent more money on polls and focus groups than any president in US

history.

•I am the first president to run and hide when the US came under attack (and

then lied, saying the enemy had the code to Air Force 1)

•I am the first US president to establish a secret shadow government.

•I took the world's sympathy for the US after 9/11, and in less than a year

made the US the most resented country in the world (possibly the biggest

diplomatic failure in US and world history).

With Love,

George W. Bush

The White House, Washington D.C.

Not only is a lot of this subjective, but some of these things (federal execution, raising campaign funds) aren't neccessarily bad things.

That's the advantage of good propaganda. They distort perceptions and facts but don't necessarily fabricate them. Distorted facts are difficult to disprove, they are legitmately open to interpretation , and in many cases a single event can be used to prove or disprove radically opposing views without stoopiing to falsehoods. The skill of the operation is all in the editing and focus.

I have knowledge of truth/fiction for most of these but....is this true?...

•I appointed more convicted criminals to administration positions than any

president in US history.

Fuck I hate election years. Can it be december yet so all this petty bickering can be over? And to think I used to complain about all the viagra spam I get, now I'm glad I get it and not political bitching.

'tis true, but this time I think it wasn't made as a trolling comment but general curiosity. That being said, Kane I'm sure I could debunk or clarify this list but its not worth my, or anyone else's, time. Read some real news and leave junk like this in your trash bin where it belongs.

I could dispute it --- but everybody here expects that.

Nope. He didn't spend the "surplus". The "surplus" was never there. It was PROJECTED. Meaning if things kept going year after year EXACTLY as someone's computer model was programmed to assume, we would have the surplus. This surplus model did not take into account the "dot-com bust"... 9/11, or Enron, Global Crossing, and Worldcom. In fact, the groundwork for all of these things were laid before George Bush was anywhere near the presidency.

2. The government runs deficits nearly every year. And I'm sure that just about every year it is a new "record" Heck, if next year's deficit is $29.47 bigger, the record will have been "shattered" again huh? Try adjusting your figures to inflation, and also compare it as a percentage of the overall economy. Deficit numbers are pretty much in line with where they usually are. And you complain about the deficit and how we're spending too much, but then decry the No Child Left Behind act as an unfunded mandate because the Fed's aren't sending enough money to the states to pay for new testing.

3. I see how politicans run the budgets on federal, state, and local levels. That's why I don't let them balance my checkbook. PERSONAL BANKRUPTCY is a personal issue. Nothing to do with George Bush. And I'm sure this had nothing to do with people losing their jobs due to 9/11, or due to investing in a bad IPO, or losing their shirts in Enron, Worldcom, or Global Crossing. Maybe Democratic chairman Terry Macauliffe should bail out all the global crossing inversors that lost a bundle after the company went under, with the hundreds of millions he made selling the stock just before it tanked.

4. Again, look at is as a percentage. I'm sure the big drops in '29, and the 80's were worse as a percentage of the market. For the Bush presidency, the market is certainly inline with what it was at for most of the Clinton presidency. Only now it is not artificially high based on cooked books.

I would like to see someone go through this list one by one and refute everything actually. Just as I would like for at least one Bush supporter to tell me why, as a homosexual, I should support a President who doesn't believe I deserve equal rights. I'd like to know these things.

There was a time when I would have willingly voted for Bush just because so much is in transition right now that replacing administrations midstream could be dangerous. Now, I think if I supported him, I'd deserve criticism, and rightfully so.

I have yet to see anyone defend the overwhelming amount of vacation time he's taken in his Presidency.

As someone who is still undecided about the next election, just because I don't know that John Kerry will be any better, I am willing to listen to good things about Bush instead of just bad things about Kerry.

But try as I might, I can't seem to get any Bush supporters to tell me why I should vote for him in November.

But try as I might, I can't seem to get any Bush supporters to tell me why I should vote for him in November.

Since you asked:

•I attacked and took over 2 countries.

We don't run Afghanistan

•I spent the U.S. surplus and bankrupted the US Treasury.

Seeing as how the taxpayers OWN the debt, bankruptcy isn't a possibility. PLUS, the gov't shouldn't RUN surpluses. It's a gov't --- not a business.

•I shattered the record for the biggest annual deficit in history (not

easy!).

In terms of percentage of GDP --- nope.

•I set an economic record for the most personal bankruptcies filed in any 12 month period.

Wow, Bush did that all by himself? How did he have the time to file all of the paperwork?

•I set all-time record for the biggest drop in the history of the stock

market.

Wow, Bush caused the stock market to drop? Who is he, Joe Kennedy?

•I am the first president in decades to execute a federal prisoner.

The guy's appeals ran out. Hey, it takes time.

•In my first year in office I set the all-time record for most days on

vacation by any president in US history (tough to beat my dad's, but I did).

Irrelevance RULES!

•After taking the entire month of August off for vacation, I presided over

the worst security failure in US history.

Heck, FDR was in office for EIGHT YEARS --- not Bush's eight months --- and he had a WORSE security failure. I guess FDR is busily rotting in hell, isn't he?

•I set the record for most campaign fund raising trips by any president in

US history.

I don't suppose this can be, you know, proven in any way, could it?

•In my first two years in office over 2 million Americans lost their jobs.

Wow --- stunning considering that the President can't really fire too many people and Bush's economic policy didn't even go into effect UNTIL his 2nd year in office.

•I cut unemployment benefits for more out-of-work Americans than any other president in US history.

Again, I guess evidence would be asking for too much.

•I set the all-time record for most real estate foreclosures in a 12-month

period.

Wow, Bush filed all those bankruptcies AND did all of those foreclosures by himself? He IS Superman!

•I appointed more convicted criminals to administration positions than any president in US history.

I suppose a name would be too much to ask for.

•I set the record for the fewest press conferences of any president, since

the advent of TV.

*Sniff* He won't talk to the press. Wah.

•I signed more laws and executive orders amending the Constitution than any other US president in history.

Wow, Lincoln suspended habeas corpus. FDR interned Americans.

Bush is WORSE!

•I presided over the biggest energy crises in US history and refused to

intervene when corruption was revealed

Hmm, the crisis is Bush's fault how?

•I cut health care benefits for war veterans.

I, again, suppose any support for this claim isn't coming.

•I set the all-time record for most people worldwide to simultaneously take to the streets to protest me (15 million people), shattering the record for

protest against any person in the history of mankind.

Which is more a condemnation of mankind than anything else.

Holocaust? Heck, we'll ship the Jews off FOR you, Adolf.

Freeing Iraqis? SCREW THAT!

•I dissolved more international treaties than any president in US history.

Ironic, since most of these treaties died the moment the USSR did, considering that one of the signatories CEASED to exist.

•I've made my presidency the most secretive and unaccountable of any in US history.

Wow, Bush should run on this. It's nice to be #1.

•Members of my cabinet are the richest of any administration in US history. (The poorest multimillionaire, Condoleeza Rice, has a Chevron oil tanker

named after her.)

As opposed to the paupers that littered PREVIOUS administrations. I was the FIRST to use rich people.

•I am the first president in US history to have all 50 states of the Union

simultaneously struggle against bankruptcy.

Wow, STATES are on the verge of going bankrupt? Stunning. I think "bankruptcy" law is lost on some people.

•I presided over the biggest corporate stock market fraud in any market in any country in the history of the world.

ACTUALLY, Clinton presided over it. Bush presided over the discovery of the scandal.

•I am the first president in US history to order a US attack AND military

occupation of a sovereign nation, and I did so against the will of the

United Nations and the vast majority of the international community.

Well, if you ignore that Balkans thing.

•I have created the largest government department bureaucracy in the history of the United States, called the "Bureau of Homeland Security"(only one

letter away from BS).

Oooh, BITING sarcasm there. So, Bush is responsible for the intelligence failure --- but he shouldn't do anything to address it?

Got it.

•I set the all-time record for biggest annual budget spending increases,

more than any other president in US history (Ronnie was tough to beat, but I

did it!!).

As percentage of GDP --- nah. And amazing how he "cuts" so much while having these massive increases.

•I am the first president in US history to compel the United Nations remove the US from the Human Rights Commission.

But they keep Cuba and Arabia there. Again, more a condemnation of the U.N than anything else.

•I am the first president in US history to have the United Nations remove

the US from the Elections Monitoring Board.

See the above quote. The U.N is corrupt and run by thugs.

•I removed more checks and balances, and have the least amount of

congressional oversight than any presidential administration in US history.

You know, this just reeks of untruth.

•I rendered the entire United Nations irrelevant. I withdrew from the World Court of Law.

Actually, the U.N did a bang-up job of rendering itself useless. And withdrawing from a treaty that is an assault on our sovreignty is a GOOD thing.

•I refused to allow inspectors access to US prisoners of war and by default no longer abide by the Geneva Conventions.

Geneva Conventions don't apply to the Gitmo thugs.

•I am the first president in US history to refuse United Nations election

inspectors access during the 2002 US elections.

Why SHOULD we have them there --- but, heck, can anybody find proof of this asinine story?

•I am the all-time US (and world) record holder for most corporate campaign donations.

This kinda reeks of BS.

•The biggest lifetime contributor to my campaign, who is also one of my best friends, presided over one of the largest corporate bankruptcy frauds in

world history (Kenneth Lay, former CEO of Enron Corporation).

Ironic, since Enron made almost all of their money in the previous administration and Bush didn't bail them out (unlike what Congress did, when a certain Senator's wife lobbied her husband to bail out the airlines).

•I spent more money on polls and focus groups than any president in US

history.

Ah heck, I'll call BS on this one.

•I am the first president to run and hide when the US came under attack (and then lied, saying the enemy had the code to Air Force 1)

Bush should've picked up a gun and FIRED at planes!!! YEAH!!!! THAT'S WHAT RAMBO WOULD DO!!!!

•I am the first US president to establish a secret shadow government.

Wow, this list has taken a turn from moronic to sub-moronic.

•I took the world's sympathy for the US after 9/11, and in less than a year made the US the most resented country in the world (possibly the biggest

diplomatic failure in US and world history).

Heck, it didn't even take a year.

•I am the first US president in history to have a majority of the people of

Europe (71%) view my presidency as the biggest threat to world peace and

stability.

And if he ran for President of Europe, there'd be a point. But, hey, Europe is full of pussies.

There, I said it.

•I changed US policy to allow convicted criminals to be awarded government contracts.

Care to provide evidence of this?

•I set the all-time record for the number of administration appointees who violated US law by not selling their huge investments in corporations

bidding for gov't contracts.

Again, proof?

•I have removed more freedoms and civil liberties for Americans than any other president in US history.

More than Lincoln and FDR? WOW!

•I entered office with the strongest economy in US history and in less than two years turned every single economic category heading straight down.

1% growth in 2000 is "the strongest economy in US history"?

BTW, within 2 years, it was in recovery. BOO YAH!

•RECORDS AND REFERENCES: I have at least one conviction for drunk driving in Maine (Texas driving record has been erased and is not available).

Yup. Curse him.

•I was AWOL from the National Guard and deserted the military during time of war.

Nah. Been disproven long ago.

•I refuse to take a drug test or even answer any questions about drug use. (wink, wink)

As well he should. 30 years ago is none of the media's business.

•All records of my tenure as governor of Texas have been spirited away to my fathers library, sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public view.

Ah heck, I'll call BS on this.

•All records of any SEC investigations into my insider trading or bankrupt

companies are sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public view.

See above.

•All minutes of meetings of any public corporation for which I served on the board are sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public view.

See above the above comment.

•Any records or minutes from meetings I (or my VP) attended regarding public energy policy are sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public review.

I know --- that whole "separation of powers" thing is quite the problem.

-=Mike

...Why should you vote for Bush? Because he won't permit us to lose the War on Terror. That's a good reason right there

As for vacation time --- I could mention that John Kerry, technically, is a SENATOR and hasn't done squat in that position for almost a year now

Gee, when I just re-visited this thread and saw the 1,000 quote boxes with replies, I had no idea it was MikeSC doing the posting. What a shock...

Hey, I could do a long thing in one fell swoop --- but if you're attacking a list point-by-point --- my way tends to be more effective.

I appreciate you taking the time to respond to this list. This is the first time I've read something that has told me something good about Bush instead of attacking Democrats or the anti-Bush crowd.

I'm still undecided on the next election. Kerry has no balls and flip flops too much, and is afraid to declare himself 100% behind anything for fear of isolating even one voter. The insecurity is annoying. Bush, however, is behind causes with which I don't agree socially, and the secrecy surrounding everything is peculiar. Today, for example, he won't even allow a stenographer to transcribe his testimony before the 9/11 commission, and from what I understand, he's not even under oath.

Bush may not have anything to hide. I just wish he'd stop acting like he does.

This is a principle issue. The President --- and I agree here --- feels that Congress is overstepping its grounds in trying to force him to do all kinds of things.

The President can testify if he chooses to --- they don't have the power to FORCE him to do so --- as they have tried.

And the 9/11 Commission is pretty much what Bush's people thought it would be --- a partisan joke. They saw it --- and have been pretty correct thus far --- that it would not be an exercise to figure out how to fix problems but, rather, a search for a way to blame Bush for the attack.

Bush, domestically, I'm not fond of. He spends ridiculously and signed a bill that he felt was Unconstitutional. BUT, the economy IS in recovery (and people tend to ignore how bad it actually WAS when he took office) and his foreign policy IS exceptionally strong, and that, for me, is the key point.

I wouldn't say that's untrue. My biggest complaint with the 9/11 Commission is that Bill Clinton should have been asked to testify and that idea hasn't even been entertained as far as I know. If the goal here is to do a thorough investigation, everyone should go under fire.

You know its funny. I got a nice glossy photo of Bush sitting in an office signing something, from the Replublican national Committee thanking me for "my support of the RNC" and giving reasons why I should "continue to support the RNC" such as making Bush's tax cuts permanent, energy conservation to decrease foreign dependence for energy sources (?) and homeland security.

Then they bash the Democrats for a couple paragraphs before closing that they want me, "a RNC supporter" to donate $25-$100 in a part of their Grassroots campaign to generate $4.1 million dollars that they need over the next 3 months in order to help Bush win re-election.

I was puzzled why I got this, and then I realized that this is supposed to give me a good laugh because

A - I've never supported the RNC (although my dad is aRepublican, I seriously doubt he would donate any money to the RNC being the tightwad that he is)

B - Im a registered Independent

Its pretty cool to know though that if I don't send them money that they might not make the $4.1 million they need to help Bush get re-elected.

As for the glossy photo, I shredded it up in a paper shredder.

Mike might be interested that this list appears to come from this link: http://www.tilenut.com/yo/BUSH_record.html (which a bunch of my inane friends have put on their AIM profiles) and the guy has apparently added a few sources and has a disclaimer at the bottom that says he's working on getting more sources up...just to let you know for...fun, I guess...

How, Mike?

Using opinion pieces from aflcio.com doesn't exactly look good.

Also,

Bankruptcies: The piece says that debt ran up in the 90's led to it.

Diplomats were quoted saying that the Human Rights Commission is harmed by the U.S not being on it.

As ALSO was pointed out, we left the World Court IN 1986. The Dems didn't exactly RUSH to get us in one.

Planning contingencies for the gov't in case of catastrophe isn't a BAD thing.

You know --- stuff like that.

And speaking of questionable sources, I found this funny as hell. Guess Kerrey and Hamilton don't care about the 9/11 families...

President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney answered every question on Thursday from the panel investigating the Sept. 11 attacks, a meeting that both the White House and the 9/11 commission had billed as historic.

The Oval Office session began at 9:30 a.m. and ended at 12:40 p.m., but two Democrat commission members -- Lee Hamilton, the vice chairman, and Bob Kerrey -- walked out before it was over!

The stunning walk out -- after Democrats had complained that Bush was not alloting enough time for questions -- has ignited talk throughout official Washington.

In a written statement, Kerrey said he left an hour early to attend a previously scheduled meeting with Senator Pete Domenici on Capitol Hill.

Kerrey: "My office has received several calls asking why I left the White House prior to the conclusion of the session with the President and the Vice President. The reason is I had a previously scheduled meeting with Senator Pete Domenici on Capitol Hill."

Kerrey explained to reporters: "Yeah, it's a little awkward to leave early. But the president certainly understood what we were doing."

Hamilton left Bush/Cheney 70 minutes early to meet with the Canadian Prime Minister.
