Simpsons cast strikes a deal

I have good news and bad news on this situation. The bad news is that the writers still suck and Season...14 or whatever will be the worst. The good news is I just saved money on my car insurance by switching to Geico.

It's not like they can tarnish the legacy of the Simpsons any more than they already have.

*remembers that there are still some people who think the show is good*

DAMN!

It's not that bad, but it's well passed its TV "experation date".

It's not the Simpsons anymore. It's a parody of the Simpsons; taking the characters they established in the first half of the shows run and putting them (err. HOMER) in shitty, modern, circumstances that only seem like a good idea to lame hollywood scriptwriters.

Here's how the writers think of a show:

Dumbass #1: Ok, let's think of a current issue that we haven't dealt with before.

Dumbass #2: How about teen pregnancy? Maybe Lisa can get pregnant?

Dumbass #3: Isn't Lisa 8?

Dumbass #4: Yeah, Dumbass #3 has a point Dumbass #2.

Dumbass #2: How about Bart?

Dumbass #3: 10, I think.

Dumbass #4: Do 10 year olds have sex?

Dumbass #2: Maybe... you know kids today...

Dumbass #3: I don't think this will work.

Dumbass #1: How about a back-in-time episode where Marge gets pregnant?

Dumbass #3: We did that already.

Dumbass #1: Damn.

Dumbass #2: How about a future episode where Lisa is 15 and gets pregnant? We could have Nelson and Milhouse claiming to be the father, when really it's Martin.

Dumbass #1: I love it.

Dumbass #3: Haven't we already done a future episode with Lisa?

Dumbass #1: Like a billion years ago. This one works cause we can have Homer go crazy and seek out the real father...

Dumbass #2: And then he goes on a trip to England because Martin is hiding out there.

Dumbass #4: And then he meets the queen and becomes king of England for a day.

Dumbass #1: And then he will "behead" Martin once he finds him.

Dumbass #3: Wasn't this originally about Lisa?

Dumbass #1: Quiet, you.

Dumbass #3: All I am saying is that I think the focus, if we are doing this storyline, is it should be about Lisa - maybe she could meet up with Paul McCartney again and turn it into a pro-life/pro-choice story along with Teen pregnancy.

Dumbass #2: No, I don't think we'll be doing THAT.

Dumbass #4: What if the father of Lisas baby is Lenny?

Dumbass #1, 2, 3: Oooooooooooh.

Dumbass #3: I like that

Dumbass #2: Me too.

Dumbass #1: We can still have Homer going to England to find Lenny, right?

Dumbass #4: Oh yeah, oh yeah.

Speaking of flashback episodes, I was watching Fox the other day and they promo'd the four remaining episodes of the season, one of which is a flashback which screws with the canon that Marge and Homer met in high school.

Ooh boy

I don't think the Simpsons has been that bad this season. Is it as good as it once was, no. But it still a good solid show. And it pulls decent enough reasons. I mean if you cancel the show, what is going to take its place? I really could not stomach another reality show stinking up the airwaves.

I watched some of the new episode today. They even copy themselves (the "Peninsula not island" joke). It's terrible.

I wonder how much a new writing staff would cost... 'cause tonight's episode was just sad.

I think the show's run out of ideas. After 17 seasons it's bound to happen.

But since the show will remain on the air. It's better they got this done. The show know needs to take advantage of this.

They even copy themselves

That's not a first. They've re-used a few jokes, the only one of which I can currently remember is "Marge, I'm not gonna lie to you..." *walks away*

Technically thats a running gag, and is still somewhat hilarious. But it was super funny in the Beer Baron episode.

You know, there's countless shows that I don't like. Shows that either used to make me laugh (or never did) but are still on the air. And I've found an amazing way to avoid them ... I just don't fucking watch them.

You don't find the show funny? Don't watch it. Change the channel. Read a book. Go online. It's not that difficult. I just don't understand how people get their panties in a knot over a show being on the air still. You don't like it, don't watch it. It doesn't take a MENSA member to avoid a 30 minute sitcom.

I haven't watched the show much at all since 2000, but since I do watch Fox for other things (including older syndicated eps), I see commercials for the newer episodes, and even those little bits make me shudder... for a couple seconds anyway, then I move on

Well, fine, when they replace it with the Simple Swan Idol, I don't want to hear any bitching.

TV sucks now. The Simpsons still gets a chuckle out of me and is still better than most anything that Fox has (except 24....what else do they have). Let it live.

I don't watch Fox anyways. ;)

Okay buit seriously, I have never understood people cheering for the demise of shows they don't watch anyway.

Like I have a friend saying "thank god Friends is going off" and has never watched one episode.

Seriously, NOTHING better is going to be in its place. The Simpsons is nowhere near a BAD show, people don't like it because it isn't what it used to be.

How many episodes has it been used in? I know of exactly two, which is not near enough to consider something a running gag, especially when there was a few years between the gag being used.

I know it was in the Beer Baron one and another recent one, probably of this season...but I've never heard it used on the show outside of that. Of course, these days I miss the show a whole lot more then I ever used to, so I suppose it's possible...but I would like to know exactly how many times they use this "running gag".

I said I don't watch FOX. I get the Simpsons on an "affiliate" channel out of Toronto. Obviously I watch the Simpsons seeing as I know how god-awful it's been for the past few years. It's begging to be cancelled, IMO.

Out of the new episodes I've seen, they've been funny but forgettable. This has been the trend for the last several seasons, I'll see an episode from 2 years ago on now and think it's one I havent' seen until halfway through I'll go "Waaaaait, I have seen this one!"

I loved that peninsula joke. "Now you can WALK home," or whatever it was, made that joke.

I still want new Simpsons episodes. I love the absolutely random nature of the show now, even though the randomness is nowhere near as good as it was during the past couple seasons.
