Mik 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2004 Following the Marlins game on gamecast, and Darren Dreifort comes in to pitch middle relief for the Dodgers...begging the question, is Darren Dreifort the most expensive middle reliever to ever play the game?
DerangedHermit 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2004 Well, anyone who's ever shaken hands with Moises Alou might want to wash their hands: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1793091& It's about halfway down the page. If this was common knowledge, maybe the Cubs would've been in the World Series.

Mik 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2004 In what can only be described as disgustlingly frustrating, the Marlins give up an unearned run in the 9th to keep the game alive, ruining Beckett's brilliant 8 IP, 1 ER performance. Benitez blows his first save, yet still doesn't give up an earned run, keeping his ERA at 0.54, but damn.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2004 Well, that cheered me up during this latest Cubs disaster. I swear they've gotta get embarrassed at least one game a week. I think it's clear that Mitre isn't ready to be a starter and you know he'd be in the pen if Prior weren't on the DL. I cannot wait for that, since Mitre has the habit of pitching very well for two innings and then having the wheels come off after that. And for the love of god, I don't care what people say, I'm really disliking the Cubs' offense. I prefer strings of hits that create runs instead of this homerun bullshit. Tonight's a perfect example as to why living and dying by the longball is a bad idea. Tons of warning track flyball outs that result in nothing. Maybe if they tried to line a single or double, they'd be getting somewhere and their offense wouldn't be so inconsistent. It's embarassing when they're down by three or four runs with no one on and their fucking swinging for the fences.

Mik 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2004 Marlins lose 4-3. 3 of the runs come on fielding errors and the Marlins left about 10-15 runners on base. I'm so damn frustrated right now. Could be worse, right Phillies fans?

Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2004 A-Rod may be the best player in the AL (Pujols & Bonds are both better), but Delgado had a better season than he did last year. That's why he shouldn't have won the MVP. Delgado .302 AVG, 42 HR, 117 R, 145 RBI, .426 OBP, 1.019 OPS A-Rod .298 AVG, 47 HR, 124 R, 118 RBI, .396 OBP, .995 OPS A-Rod was better than Delgado in only runs scored and homeruns. In every other category Delgado was better than A-Rod, including OBP & OPS which are the two most important stats. In 2003, Delgado was better than A-Rod and since the MVP award is for that season only, he and not A-Rod should have won.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2004 I put A-Rod over Delgado because of his defense, but "Delgado was better" is the one legitimate argument against A-Rod, and no one uses it. Congrats.

Fair enough. I put in their batting stats in my last post just to help argue my point. A-Rod was #2, I just think that the league gave it to him because he was the easier choice, since Toronto had already won the Cy Young and because of the year Tejada won it instead of A-Rod. Bored 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2004 I put A-Rod over Delgado because of his defense, but "Delgado was better" is the one legitimate argument against A-Rod, and no one uses it. Congrats. Hey I picked Delgado last year too. WHAT IN THE NAMEOF HELL WAS THAT? I'm assuming this is referencing the end of the 3rd inning. The A's simply have the biggest collection of bad base runners there is. Dye lucked out though as it looked like on the replay that Posada turned his head for some reason and didn't bother to make sure he tagged Dye. Wild play but then Durazo has to get greedy and make a bad base running decision himself. Actually good thing for A-Rod that Durazo didn't decide just run over him. After the way last week went not too confident with a four-run lead especially with Mulder not pitching well. Oh and another bad base running decision as I type this by Damian Miller. *sigh*
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted May 5, 2004 Dye clearly tripped Posada, but Durazo was safe, so they almost work out.
Mik 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2004 Could be worse, right Phillies fans? I don't see how. At least we've won the division. Well, I was thinking about this year....or more specifically Pat Burrell striking out with the bases loaded to lose the game by one. And as for the won the division... ...two world titles in 7 years kinda takes the sting out of never winning the division.

Bored 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2004 Don't you feel silly now? The Big Two and a Half (Zito only counts as a half now) are in some funk right now. The A's did this last year in the first half too as when they would get good production from the offense, the pitching would implode and when they got great pitching (which was often), they couldn't score any runs. Oh well just have to wait for the usual second half surge although sure would be nice they could let A's fans relax most of the season.
