EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2004 No, but the year is a month old. If Derek Jeter were to hit two home runs today, would Mariner fans go, "how could you let that happen, Jeter sucks!"? It would not come as a huge surprise.

Call Earl Weaver. He's just insane enough to take the job. And Weaver is a scary man.

2GOLD 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2004 Earl Weaver is the god of statheads. God nothing, I like Weaver because he is batty. Baseball needs a man as insane as Earl Weaver. I had hopes for Lloyd in Pittsburgh, but he seems to have mellowed out. Dusty Baker is nice and insane during interviews, but just not insane enough during games. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2004 I knew once Walker struck out this game was basically over, as Patterson is simply not a patient hitter. If he can learn to take some pitches, he'll eventually improve greatly, but that at bat right there showed his naive ways as a young hitter. Looking back, I almost wish Goodwin hadn't made it to third because it just makes it even harder to swallow that they had the tying run 90 feet away with less than two outs. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2004 Yeah, they handed the other Chicago team a tough loss today, too. The Rockies earned this victory today, as Jennings turned it completely around and ended up being the reason the Rockies won, not only because of his great pitching, but because he supplied the two-run shot that ended up being the difference. I find it a bit sad that a bunch of pinch hitters were able to cause that many problems late in the game and the 3, 4, 5 hitters went down the inning before with minimal problems. ISportsFan 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2004 The White Sox can't keep on winning close games, because we're simply not good enough to do it. 11-2 in 1 run games is amazing, but Koch isn't a good enough closer to get it done consistently. The hitting isn't going steady yet, either. What's impressive to me, though, is how truly good the Sox record is for the talent level on the roster. They have the fire and energy to get things done, and a couple of key acquisitions around midseason will get us to the playoffs, I think. Jason

I was surprised by Walker doing so, but Corey's been doing that all year. He's got a lot to learn before he becomes a real threat at the plate.

Plus, another problem is the starting pitching beyond #4 -- Danny Wright got optioned to AAA and we have no 5th starter. We don't need one until after the Baltimore series (which ends Thursday next week), but after that we'll have to find a 5th starter that is preferably not Wright. Basically, it's a dogfight down in AAA for the 5th spot from what I've read. Jason
Bored 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2004 I think we can mark May 8th as the day A's fans completely turn on Bobby Crosby. He is a horrendous slump right now and his defense is suddenly shaky after being flawless early in the season. Today he grounds into a double play in the 8th with 1st and 3rd, in field in, and no one out to fail to the put the A's ahead. Then his error in the 10th inning costs the A's the game. He his now hitting just .183 with a pathetic .253 OBP (coming into the game), .586 OPS., and 32 strike outs in just 82 at bats. It's tough replacing a fan favorite and Crosby is likely to be scapegoated for the A's lack of success so far this season. Expecting a lot of boos for him tommorrow. Bored 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2004 What scouts? Anyways he's had three years in the minors, had an excellent year at Triple-A, and is 24-years old so that's not really rushing someone. The expectations were probably too high for him this season. Tejada didn't exactly have a good start to his career.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted May 9, 2004 Which scouts? John Sickels and BPro wrote highly of his chances. Whichever ones Starks spoke to. When Baltimore signed Tejada he spoke on it saying Oakland was going to suffer not only from losing his leadership but also because the scouts he spoke to said Crosby was 1 more year away from the bigs in terms of being ready. Personally I never saw him play in the minors. Only prospects I can watch our the ones in the New England Coast leagues and the ones that come up to play Pawtucket and Portland. I think the "Shannon Stewart for MVP" campaign is a good indicator that Jayson Starks is full of shit. Its worth noting that Crosby is still outhitting Rich Aurilia and Derek Jeter. Guest Smell the ratings!!! Report post Posted May 9, 2004 The reason the Sox have such a great record in one run games is because when the're up by 3 in the 9th, they bring in Koch and he lets 2 guys score. I'm not kidding. fun fact: Reed was originally a rightfielder and that's where he'll probably end up next year. Not that our fine front office won't make every possible effort to resign Mags, of course.
