Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2004 Ironically, Tyson Tomko may work as well because he's so much like Kevin Nash (no talent, big guy with "look"). "Nathan Jones" "John Heidenreich" In today's WWE, it's not as easy to get over if you're new & devoid of talent.

"Nathan Jones" "John Heidenreich" In today's WWE, it's not as easy to get over if you're new & devoid of talent. You can probably add Matt Morgan to that list. Not that he doesn't have talent...but he's still WAY too green.

haVoc 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2004 ~BUMP~ It turns out that one of the reasons WWE changed the hometowns of Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho from Canadian cities to U.S. cities is because the two were scheduled to have feuds with Hirohito and WWE was going to bill it as a patriotic U.S. vs. Japan angle. Hirohito was to be played by Kenzo Suzuki. WWE was going to bill Hirohito as the grandson of the late World War II emperor of Japan. WWE pulled the gimmick due to fears that it would hurt their reputation in Japan where they hope to continue to make good money off of WWE shows. WWE was planning to bring Hirohito in right away as a main eventer and have a feud between he and Chris Benoit throughout the summer, followed by a Hirohito/Jericho feud. Credit: Torch Newsletter So they replaced him with Kane. A stale gimmick character.
iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2004 This all kind of sounds like a big story to me. The way that the WWE has been running Raw lately, I can't really believe they were going to have the "grandson of the Japanese emperor" challenge Benoit for the World Title. On Smackdown, maybe, but the way they've been trying hard on Raw, I really doubt they were going to put something that stupid in the main event.

As if Paul Wight being booked as the son of Andrew The Giant wasn't offensive enough, claiming lineage from a prominent historical figure, especially the emperor of Japan at the time of the atomic bombing, that's just asking for trouble. Did they not think people would be upset with naming a wrestler Hirohito? What's next? The Bolshevik gimmick gets brought back with a guy named "Ivan Stalinov," who gets revenge against rivals by having his lackeys ice-pick their heads? Or maybe Steve Hitler, who's popular in the locker room as long as introduces himself as Steve, and everyone is willing to appease his requests, but everyone freaks out when they find out he's Steve Hitler? Tony Mussolini, who promises to make the matches run on time in Stamford? P.S.: Maybe I'm on to something with Steve Hitler. Nah.
