Ring Of Honor DVD Sale

Recommended Posts

It this was before the RF incident, I'd seriously lay down $300 tonight.

But alas, no chance I'll throw a $1 to them at this point.

Yeah...I was so excited about the DVD's I forgot about RF until after I ordered.

I really hope the promotion gains from the DVD's I bought, and not him. :(

I've seen the first 5 shows, so the next 2 would be Honor Invades Boston and Unscripted. Those any good?

Honor Invades Boston has two great matches - AJ Styles and Low Ki is about ***1/2 - ***3/4 IMO (I liked other matches they've have better) Jay vs. Mark Briscoe is probably ****-****1/4. Not much else that I remember.

Unscripted has a great streetfight between Michael Shane and Paul London, and a few fun tag team matches with Daniels and Modest, Idaka and Togo, and Modest and Amdrag.

Lots of reviews at 411 and other places, too.

The best 2002 show is All Star Extravaganza. The shows got markedly better overall by mid-late 2003 though, and have been great so far in 2004.

Yeah, this pretty much says it all right here. Scramble Madness is also a pretty decent 2002 show if you want to pick up another cheap one. But the mid-late 2003 stuff has been great, and I can't wait to see the first two shows from 2004.

hmph...still a little weary on giving money to RFVideo, but I might. Where do the big fans here get their videos? Is there a reliable cheaper source out there (PMs welcome), or do you guys just buy straight from RF every month?

Hmm... pay more than a better produced WWE DVD? Not a chance.

If you're deciding on buying DVDs based on the production quality, I don't think ROH is for you anyway.

My view on this is as follows: If it turns out that Rob is still there, they will be sued for fraud by The Rexplex and every other venue/promotion they have assured he is gone. Not to mention TNA, who has his signature. In the end, Rob is never going to gain any more from ROH sales, because if he does it will be found out, and then he's finished. As is, I'd rather send money there to keep it afloat to give the boys 2-3 more dates a month, and keep the great wrestling going.

Anyway, of the 19.95 ones, here are the top shows I would buy:

--Epic Encounter (For 1 match...the best match in the world in years)

--Night Of Champions (tremendous blend...Daniels-Williams is brilliant, and there are 2 great spotfests for fans of that)

--Death Before Dishonor (Great 4-way, Williams-Carter, bigtime Punk-Raven stuff, and of course, London's farewell. Well worth seeing.)

--Bitter Friends, Stiffer Enemies (Insane Homicide-Corino brawl that was light years better than you'd expect, and a fun technical Daniels-Xavier match)

--Tradition Continues (Great 4-way, Punk-Styles is real good, and the main event is such a fun Vader-style match)

--Empire State Showdown (The most underrated show of all. Daniels-Walters is real nice, the scramble is the best one ever, and Corino-Punk is just art)

--Main Event Spectacles (One of RoH's best. Scramble Cage, Homicide-Whitmer, and Dragon-Styles. If you want to see Styles totally outclassed in a match, this is it. And it's fucking great)

--Final Battle 2003 (Briscoe-Dragon is subtle brilliance, fun ladder match, and the AJPW gimmick was fun for a night)

--BLAD (see where this feud was heading before TNA stepped in, and oh yeah...almost all of the matches are real good, with a great ME)

And in all fairness, I do agree with you. My disagreements have been with Gabe and friends' handling of the situation. My question about alternative sources was more of an economic than moral one though. ;) I didn't want to be the poor sap that pays fulls price, when there's a cheaper source that most everyone uses, but it doesn't seem like that's the case. (The supplier I got the first 5 from, I believe was the guy RF turned into the FBI...goodie). I still feel a little dirty giving money to Rob Feinstein video though...

There are definitely guys out there for tapes that might sell them for like 10 bucks a show. For DVDs, I think this sale is the best shot you've got. I'd honestly reccomend picking up the last 3 DVDs: 12/27, 1/10, and 1/29 so you can get an idea of where the promotion is. If you like it, then maybe you'll follow it. The next 2 come out in about a week. I buy mostly from RF Video to keep the promotion going...and the DVDs are much better quality anyway.

It's an interesting thought, and one I'd reccomend if TNA sold tapes, since guys have popped in and out over the past 2 years and storylines have been dropped and introduced constantly, so you might as well just follow from this point on since not much has continuity anyway, and then just work back to watch some great matches, but with ROH it seems more constant. Like you need to watch them at least mostly in order, especially as they introduce new wrestlers and new storylines. From just the first few shows, I think I'd be totally lost if I just started with the new stuff.

And there appears to be a guy selling copies of just about all the shows (over 30) for a starting bid of $100 on eBay. God, I'd really hate myself for spending over a 100 dollars in one pop on wrestling, but it might be worth it...

I hear he's not involved, and they decided not to change the name because it already exists...

*shrug* the DVDs are really fun and ROH is just great. I need to second the recommendation of the Styles v. Dragon match from Main Event Spectacles. It's too too awsome.

If you could get that, it would be worth it probably. One way to jump in is to go to the first Anny show (2/8/03), where they recap all the important parts of 2002. Of course, they do that on the 2004 2nd anny show, so you could wait for that to come out. The announcers do a damn good job going over current storylines...in fact, the way they do it so much is often one of the reasons they're annoying.

12/27/03 basically kick-started the main storyline for the new year (Prophecy-SCS). Of course, that story is now out the window. Besides that, there isn't much in terms of storyline continuity you have to worry about, since much of the show is just about winning or losing, with the exception of the usual one major feud.

I love ROH, but I must be one of the VERY few who didn't like MSE as much as everyone else I can't wait to see the first two from 2004, though. I also like Tradition Continues simply for the fourway, Joe/Briscoe, and Styles/Punk. And shit, now I want to see Empire State Showdown.

The 2004 show that got very little hype, the Pure Wrestling tourney, was my favorite show in quite some time, and maybe my favorite ROH show ever. No MoTYCs or anything, but the tournament told a great story, and every match was at least good. Also, it had a GREAT 4-way match on it, and a Spanky promo that made me all tingly inside.

Since I wouldn't be able to make up my mind on only a show or two, I can't really afford the show or two, and I wouldn't be able to get anything else after being hooked by the show or two, I'm gonna pass on the whole deal. Kind of like what I do with booze... except I actually like ROH. yadoubt.gif
