Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted May 12, 2004 http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/i_robot/...ive2/ap_lg.html The book? Great. The movie? Looks promising. This trailer? Very nice. Atleast, those are my opinions. I know many don't like Will Smith, but when put into good roles, he does a very good job. I'm pretty hyped for this as a Asimov fan. Guest El Satanico Report post Posted May 12, 2004 I like the robots featured, but the movie seems a bit too actiony. Isn't the book more about the questions raised by all of it? I haven't read the book, but it sounds like a great story and could be a great movie handled correctly. Hopefully they don't lose the truly interesting parts of the story for the sake of one liners and "wow that was cool" action scenes, which is what the trailers have led me to believe. Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted May 12, 2004 Asimov allows the robots to come alive in "I, Robot". You could say he created the classic laws of governing their behavior. [You can find this on the back of the book as well] 1. A Robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. 2. A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the first law. 3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the first or second law. In the book, the robots do go mad, and do evil things. Read minds, and all kinds of other things. It's a good read.. haven't read it in awhile though. Looking at the cover of my book, the robots in the movie look to be right on. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2004 The movie has nothing to do with the book from what I've gathered, and this one'll likely suck majorly. "I know many don't like Will Smith, but when put into good roles, he does a very good job." ?????

"I know many don't like Will Smith, but when put into good roles, he does a very good job." ????? Wow, that was thoughtful. What exactly do you want to know? ??????? Oh, and it may not be a true adaption, meaning, 100%, it is based on the book, and it will use alot of ideas from the book, which makes it worth while for now. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2004 I was curious what good roles he's had period. They'd certainly be outweighed by his bad ones: Independence Day, Bad Boys, Wild Wild West, etc. It seems like a string of utter garbage. Any time Will Smith is in any way associated with a good movie, it's utter coincidence, it seems. Enemy of the State: Massively overrated due to the ludicrous premise and wasted talent. Although they were at least wise enough to give Smith a much more talented actor to play off of. Bagger Vance: Eh, alright. Seriously, the MIB flicks are probably his best work, and that doesn't mean he's cut out for any serious, dramatic roles. They just worked with his strengths. He's decent in a well-written comedy role. That doesn't mean he's much more than a pop star who whores his latest project constantly and enthusiastically. "Oh, and it may not be a true adaption, meaning, 100%, it is based on the book, and it will use alot of ideas from the book, which makes it worth while for now." I'm thinking a superficial connection to the book. I wonder if they'll proudly tout "from the screenwriter that brought you Batman and Robin" in the TV trailers. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2004 And academy award winner for 'A Beautiful ton of lies ........ errrr Mind' Which was itself a real measure of a screenwriter's talent, being a novel and all. However, I'm getting the feeling this one's going to be far from a movie adaption of the novel. Noticing Akiva's profile on IMDb, I see two more book adaptions coming and an Opie movie. I forgot Akiva was responsible for the Lost in Space movie.
Mik 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2004 I'd say Will Smith did an amazing job in Ali. The movie sucked despite his awesomeness.
The Metal Maniac 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2004 I doubt this movie will have anything to do with the book, other then the title, to be quite honest. I've never read it, but as I understand it, for one thing it's a collection of short stories, and for another, in Assimov's universe, robots DON'T and CAN'T break the three laws. This movie seems to ignore both of those, so I'll do likewise, and just enjoy it visually. I really like the design of the robots, so this looks like fun. Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted May 12, 2004 Smith has played very good to great roles in "Ali", "Legend of Bagger Vance", "Enemy of the State", and "Six Degrees of Separation". Ali wasn't a great movie, but his performance was great, and certainly he was very good in the other performances he gave listed. He is a good actor, and when given serious, good roles, and talented people wot work with (unlike Bad Boys), he can be screen star.
