Astros loaded the bases in the top of the 8th, but (GASP!) Mr. Reliable Armando Benitez came in with 2 outs and K'd Lance Berkman looking.

His ERA is now 0.38 barring the 9th of this game.

Benitez was always good. Its just the blown saves always got splashed at the top of the highlight shows. No one remembers a flawless inning, but they always remember the screwups.

IIRC, when the Yankees got him last year (Yeah, that was worth it) he was tied for the league lead in blown saves. I don't think you can really blow that out of proportion.

Sure you can. The save is an utterly meaningless statistic.

FOR A CLOSER?

Has Colon always been this fat? I don't remember him being that big.

Especially for a closer. Not all saves are created equal, and the save adversely effects in game strategy. I think the Dodgers are pissed scared to bring Eric Gagne in before the ninth for fear that he'll lose that streak. All pitchers give up runs at some point. A team like the Mets are more likely to only spot their closer one run. Hence more blown saves.

Yes.

Yes.

Has it been that long since I've seen him? He was always fat, but I think he's bigger than Wells now. Hes Ponson-y.

A quick check says that he is indeed bigger than Wells, but that Wells weighs the same as Ponson. Bullshit.

And he's absolutely fatter. It caught me off guard.

This disturbs me greatly.

Bartolo Colon

Bartolo Colon

Bats Right, Throws Right

Height 6' 0", Weight 185 lb.

At least the Angels have a more reasonable number.

Honestly, I think 240 is low, but 185 is absurd. I weigh 190, and if THAT'S 185, my mirrors need cleaning.

Colon's always been a big boy, but he's definitely put on some lbs. in recent years. Even Sportscenter noted it by showing three pictures of Colon in chronological order from the beginning of his career to now. There was quite the difference.

Rodrigo cruises through 4 innings and then hits the WALL in the 5th walking in a run and 1 out with the bases loaded.

Oh and I nominate Sidney Ponson for the fat pitchers thing. When he stinks people call him Fat-son. His listed weight is 266.

Well, the Pig Roast was halted.

Colon had to go tend to his ladies....

Christ. Angels were checking Anderson for ALS and cancer. Who'd ever think you'd say "He has arthritis, thank God"

What an absolute waste of a game tonight. Zambrano throws 130 pitches in FIVE innings, walking nine and K-ing 8, but the Sox had plenty of scoring chances and blew a lot of them (11 LOB). Lowe had another bad start, and his stock is tumbling fast.

Just not good.

Don't worry. In two days, the Yanks will play a shitty game and give the lead back to the Sox, so they can suck ass two days later and give it back to the Yankees, rinse repeat.

In further yankee news, there's talks of trading Graman and Rifkin for Sean Casey. Don't know why the Reds would do such a thing, but who cares.

Also, Robinson Cano may come up from Trenton to play second by the end of the year if we can't find anyone. He's got nice numbers, but that is AA.

I have heard nothing about that here in Cincy, I call bullshit. If the reds were going to trade Casey, the Yankees would not be where he would go. The Yankees have the worst farm system in baseball. I would not trade Casey for the Yankees 20 best prospects.

I'm getting his info (secondhand) from a rumor passed on by Cincy talk radio. Whole thing sounds strange.

What in god's name is wrong with Oswalt?

These injuries suck for the Twins. Stewart, Dougie Alphabet, and Rivas all have day to day injuries so they aren't on the DL, but they aren't available stretching the bench rail thin.

He's a little off, but I don't think it's much to worry about. If not for one ball taking a bad bounce off his glove to give Luis Castillo an infield hit/RBI or making one bad pitch to Lenny Harris, he would have been fine yesterday.

Four games against Houston, winning 2 or 3 games would be very nice.

Yes, 3 of 4 from the Astros would be great. Better yet, just sweep it. GO REDS!

Egads, Mitre is embarrassingly bad sometimes. A lot of that is just inexperience, but it still hurts. No way the Cards should've had four runs in that inning. One or two maybe, but they were helped greatly by Mitre not holding the runner at second, letting them steal third and two wild pitches.
