But for me personally he doesn't have what it takes to be the companies top guy. He has no charisma, can't cut a promo without being *serious*. To be given the ball, you need to be the complete package to build a company around. Unless he's in a great match, he puts people to sleep. Is he meant to be a face? because for his entrances garner a poor reaction from the crowd for a world champion. And the from watching raw, the crowd isn't into benoit and from what i've seen i can't really blame them.

Name one other WWE superstar that has received standing ovations... Being World Champion is about more than cutting promos. Benoit is a pure wrestling machine. He is the very definition of a true fighting champion. His mic skills are certainly not horrible because he has proven that he can say what he has to say in a few words. Whether you want to believe it or not, Chris Benoit as World Heavyweight Champion is one of the most over wrestlers on the Raw roster.

Every time I have seen Benoit come to the ring, be it promo or match, he gets a good response. Is it the best response ever? I'll concede it isn't. But it is far better than I think you are giving it credit for.

Guest TheAustralian Posted May 18, 2004 Report Posted May 18, 2004 Shouldnt credit for the WWE recent upswing in the ratings also go to HBK and HHH, both have been involved in the top storyline with Benoit. and I would also point out that HBK and HHH fued leading to the Hell in a Cell match will be the focus of the company not Kane v Benoit, There is no doubt Benoit is partially responsible, but people like HBK and HHH are equally responsible. and from a personal point of view Jericho and Christian have also made me tune in every week, In other words WWE's rating jump is due to a team effort, as opposed to Benoit

But i don't think it's enough to warrant being the top face of the company. Maybe i'm unrealisticly comparing him to say a Rock, Austin, foley but that is a fact. Maybe if he added another demension to his persona? Hopefully things improve, because he seems like a guy that deserves it.

You might as well say something stupid like "well, two weeks ago Benoit was on RAW so last week people didn't tune in because they thought he'd be there...then last night they knew he wasn't on the show the week before, so they tuned in once again thinking he wouldn't be on, since he wasn't on the show the week before." It's all just pointless.
Guest TheAustralian Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 Choken you come accross as a rather smart person, you cant tell me Benoit is responsible for the upswing, there is simply no logic behind it, he isnt even being pushed as the focal point of the company, instead HBK and HHH are, HBK continues to get pops that are atleast equal to Benoit's, And it could easily be argued that last weeks low rating was due to many different things, Benoit not being there is not one of them, atleast I never heard JR tell the audience that Benoit would not be present, Ratings are effected by many diferent things, competion, weather conditions etc. I would also argue that the last couple of weeks hot shows were atleast partially responsible

We will see when we get back to the Northeastern markets then, I have only seen 3 shows where Benoit got a bigger pop then HBK , the ppv and Raw in Canada and Wrestlemaina. Most of the time their pretty even.
NYU Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 Curiously, those that are going on about the favorable reactions that Benoit receives over Shawn Michaels are forgetting the Raw in Topeka.....when Shawn accidentally hit Benoit in the face with the chair and Chris got revenge by putting HBK in the Sharpshooter......and got loudly booed for it as a result. Let's not act as if Benoit's reactions are 100% gold. For as many good reactions as he's gotten on Raw since he jumped, he's also had some negative reactions when pitted against Shawn Michaels - or, in fact, no reaction at all.

Most of the time their pretty even. As we all know pops aren't everything. Benoit as a midcarder getting buried drew more viewers to watch him than Michaels did as a maineventer at the same time. People are more interested in Benoit. If you're concerned about pops check out Benoit's reaction from the fans last night. The fans were responding very heavily to him. I think the "Benoit is for real" gimmick is working. Let's just hope HHH doesn't ruin it all at Summerslam.
