Guest momoracci Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 From what I've seen of her in the past couple of years, Takako isn't anywhere near as good as she was from 1993-1995. But, even in her prime, she was never "great" per se - her best matches were almost all tags, often getting her ass kicked and playing "little sister" amongst the bigger stars. She was definitely solid in her roles (later becoming more of a bitchy heel as she got older) - she just wasn't one of Japan's elite women wrestlers. She's got a nice look and will probably be marketable, but don't expect anything THAT extraordinary from a work standpoint (especially if they're not going to bring in any quality opponents for her). She may immediately be the best woman on the WWE roster, although that would hold true for almost any Joshi regular at this point.

I only like womens wrestling for T&A, as I like moves that look like they would really hurt, something none of the divas do. On the few times I have seen some of the more hardcore matches featuring women it makes me squeamish, therefore I am stuck in a pickle. I only like hard hitting wrestling, yet do not like seeing women hit each other hard. The only answer is all thongs all the time.

I remember when Gail Kim was some sort of a smark dream (OH MY GOD HOT AND SHE CAN WRRRESSTLE YESSSS) and everyone bitched and moaned about how she should be put on TV and then. Bwahaha. Also, this woman is approaching 35. Something tells me if she does decide to be a "pretty" Diva, it won't be long.

But then again I give Gail Kim the benefit of the doubt since WWE was billing her as the female version of Rey Mysterio...then again WWE also thinks Lita's hot.

Takako has tons more experience, and although she's not a great worker she's tons better than any of the women on the roster. (She's better than the other half of the Smackdown main event this PPV too.) Enough people have pointed out she's better that we can stop the comparisons, dont you think? niko
Guest Goodear Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 Its interesting to me at least that the WWE is sort of getting away from the stereotypical white blonde girl look that they have been in for a while now with Torrie, Stacy, and Trish and seemingly delving more into minorities and different looking women. I think the move will be positive as far as business is concerned as the Hispanic demo has proven so great for WWE and I see no reason for the company not to reach out in these sorts of directions.

Yeah, compare what people saw in that three or so minute clip of Kim doing highspots to people talking based on having watched the last 13 years of Takako's career. Nice thinking Sherlock But yeah she can be pretty great when she's motivated, traditionally she's been a better tag worker than a singles worker, her singles work has improved as her moveset became more sensible for it though. Based on her recent work she'd be better than anyone on the roster besides Benoit, Eddie, Rey, London, Jericho, Rock, Edge (if he keeps his return to form up) and motivated HHH. 1993 Takako would only have had Benoit and Eddie as peers
notJames Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 A couple of years ago (I think), there was some random PPV with a bunch of Japanese matches on it, mostly hardcore stuff (there was a fire match, a six man tag including Dick Togo, and a bunch of other matches). And I remember one match was a six-woman cage match. The heels were very diva-ish and dressed in bright-coloured get-ups, and the faces were one large woman and two tiny girls. Surprisingly lots of blood, all on the face side. I mostly remember the finish: the big one did a double stomp onto the lead heel from the top of the cage and then escaped. Long story short... does anyone know if Takako was one of the participants?
