Guest Askewniverse Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 There seems to be some confusion in this thread (particularly centered around the Predator - South Park debate). The votes should be for which movie you like better, not what you think is the better movie. For example, I think Citizen Kane is a better movie than Mallrats. The cinematography, film editing, writing, acting, etc. is way ahead of that in Mallrats. However, I like Mallrats better. Even though I think Citizen Kane is the better movie, it does nothing for me. I just can't "get into" it at all. I'm still waiting for someone to explain how fucking PREDATOR deserves to be here and South Park doesn't. Retards. If you really want a legit explanation, it's simple. During the tie-breaker round, there were more votes for South Park (and Spider-Man) to be eliminated than Predator.
chaosrage Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 If you really want a legit explanation, it's simple. During the tie-breaker round, there were more votes for South Park (and Spider-Man) to be eliminated than Predator. ...Thank you for this valuable information. And it doesn't deserve to be eliminated because of that. It's BS that votes from people who obviously didn't get the movie could cancel out the votes from the people that did.
nl5xsk1 Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 How exactly does one 'get' a movie like South Park, or Spider-Man? It's not advanced trigonometry we're talking about.
chaosrage Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 How exactly does one 'get' a movie like South Park, or Spider-Man? It's not advanced trigonometry we're talking about. By understanding that it's a satire, not just a bunch of fart jokes and curse words first of all. It's not complex, which makes it all the more sadder that people don't get it.
Guest JumpinJackFlash Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 Citizen Kane and The Seven Samurai are the only two movies that are good enough to win this tournament.
Guest thebigjig Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 I'm still waiting for someone to explain how fucking PREDATOR deserves to be here and South Park doesn't. Retards. Some of the GREATEST movies of all time were left off... where's Lawrence of Arabia? Treasure of the Sierra Madre? CasaFREAKINblanca? Amadeus? Manchurian Candidate? Jesus...
LaParkaYourCar Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 What I've gathered to this point is that this is a "favorite movie" tournament not a "greatest ever" tournament.
Guest thebigjig Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 What I've gathered to this point is that this is a "favorite movie" tournament not a "greatest ever" tournament. I dont know... my favorite movies are generally considered the greatest... I'd watch Lawrence of Arabia a thousand times before I would watch X2 a second time and Casablanca owns 99% of the films on this list
Nighthawk Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 People just don't like that stuff as much. I've tried to come up with a reason that involved their being stupider than me, but it's a fool's errand. Sure, a library is a better place to go than a strip club, but... you see what I'm saying.

Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 Because it had a stupid plot and Saddam playing with fake dicks and trying to fuck satan doesn't make it a great movie. It's funny, but it's not even close to great. If the movie we're talking about is a comedy and you thought it was funny, then I'm afraid that does make it great. How was it stupid? Let's see....the first 15 minutes alone make me want to gouge my eyes out. "Hey! Lets prosecute Canadians because they made an R rated movie!" then we have the Satin/Sadam gay relationship plot. Kenny dies....again. It's a funny movie, but it doesn't touch GREAT. If I have to fast foward scenes, it shouldn't even be mentioned, and I FF through most of the Sadam crap because gay jokes = stupid. As for the topic, most of the movies I consider great are in such as Jaws, Back to The Future, Psycho...etc. I'm just made Rocky made it but not Rocky II, while every LOTR shit got in.

Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 I'm not impressed with using ">" as the best logic. How was Rocky III better than Rocky II? Or Rocky for that matter.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 After reviewing through the tiebreaker choices, I am a bit shocked some choices beat out SP and Spiderman, but still, I wouldn't vote for them past round of 32.

DrVenkman PhD Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 In fairness, there was a nominations thread, and these movies weren't just randomly thrown onto a list to be voted on. So, Lawrence of Arabia received zero votes, it's your fault for it not at least getting one. And yeah, I think re-branding this thing "Favourite Movie" instead of Greatest Movie would be for the best, since the criteria that Askew is having us follow involves voting for the films you mark out for, not which one you think is technically superior.

I'm surprised you didn't say it had Hogan, since I like Hogan. Anyway, to clear up what I meant, I thought SP was beat out by 1 movie, not 15 others that included some I never even heard of. (I didn't participate in the voting, but my 2 top picks are in anyway)
The Mandarin Posted May 22, 2004 Report Posted May 22, 2004 The biggest travesty in this list is putting Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind against Citizen Kane. If either Donnie Darko or Clerks is getting to the second round, than ESotSM should too.

Downhome Posted May 22, 2004 Report Posted May 22, 2004 For ESotSM to be eliminated in the first round is wrong. I'm sure not everyone is like this, but I'd be willing to bet that more than a couple of people voted for CK just becaus its...CK, "the best film ever".
