KingPK 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 Nothing depresses me more than seeing Daubach come up in a key situation No shit. You'd think he has a shovel instead of a bat going after pitches in the dirt like that. They had plenty of chances to win that game, though. Varitek just got under TWO balls that would have been homers otherwise, and if Daubach had a little fucking patience and vision. But that ground rule double by Ortiz was a killer. Stopped what would eventually been the tying run from scoring. Wake started off shaky, but settled down nicely, which was good to see. Oh, and judging by my subway experience getting to the park, I do NOT want to be anywhere near Boston for the DNC. It's bad enough waiting in line for 20 minutes for tokens, imagine how long it will take for security to check everyone out. And the Yankees are in town then.... Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 Al told me yesterday that I'm one or two Cubs losses away from being the next AS. Well, we're about to find out as this abortion of a team has managed to squander yet another lead and are now getting bitchslapped around by the Bucs. I know you can't assess the team until they've got the likes of Wood, Prior and Sosa back, but it may be too late by time that actually happens. After dropping two to the Stros, I figured that a four-game set with the Pirates would help things. As it is, it looks like they'll need to win tomorrow in order to avoid being fucking swept by them. I've been a fan for 10 years and have seen much worse, but I'm rapidly losing faith in a team that is unable to even tread water at this point.
Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted May 30, 2004 In other news. Another faaaantastic game by Jose Acevedo (7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 2 K) and he finally gets a win, as the bullpen doesn't blow it for him. Graves with another 1-2-3, amazing, and Dunn hits his 12th HR. Reds 29-20, 2.5 games up on the Astros and Cards. Ace last 3 games: 20 IP, 3 ER, 17 K, ZERO WALKS. Awesome.
Bored 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 Looks like Bobby Crosby has just cost the A's a game for the 3rd time this year with a late inning error. A's down 7-6 in the 8th.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 Congrats, Cubs. The Brewers now have a better record than you do.
Bored 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 A's lose 8-6. Crosby's defense, Ken Macha, and the bullpen continue to cost this team games on a regular basis. Getting swept by the Indians wouldn't be pretty.
treble 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 Meanwhile, Frank Menehoweveryouspellit is helping the Blue Jays win games. Thanks A's.
Bored 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 The little shit was doing it against the Angels so it helped the A's out. Trust me it won't last.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 30, 2004 whats with Graves and the sudden 1-2-3's? maybe giving Todd Jones the save the other day made him go ..."mmm..."

Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted May 30, 2004 Well, they are playing the Expos. And the Cubs are playing the Pirates. They're still major league hitters. Nick Johnson and Carl Everett are back too.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted May 30, 2004 Al told me yesterday that I'm one or two Cubs losses away from being the next AS. BruiserSault? The Cubs should go after Guardado. The Mariners are dead and he looked pretty good today against the Red Sox.

Last time I checked, no one found Joe Borowski to be some intimidating closer, whereas Graves has an insane contract to do what he does. I'm not making excuses for the Cubs, who are playing the worst ball they have all year, but I don't see what they have do with a game between the Reds and the Expos. Fuzzy Dunlop 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 Chong, I have to agree that this is ridiculous. I've been a fan since 98, when Sosa was hitting all those home runs and the development of Kerry Wood, and I'll never give up on this team. But this weekend it just really hurts to watch them play, when two years ago, the same games, against the same teams, I could just shrug it off and say "maybe tomorrow," after every single game, until it became you guessed it, "maybe next year," but this was supposed to BE next year! That said, we'll get 'em tomorrow for sure, and take two of three from The Stros, and sweep the Buccos at Wrigley next week, with Prior's first win of the year! I can feel it! Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 Tomorrow's going to be an important game. The Cubbies once again seemingly have most factors going in their favor, but this losing streak may be getting in their heads, so we shall see. A team doesn't need to go on some double-digit win streak to get things going. It just takes winning series and that's what I expect from the Cubs. Maybe not so much right now, all of their issues considered, but I don't ask for sweeps, because a difference can be made just from winning series.

Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 Here's some useless trivia: the Cubs and Astros have already surpassed their longest losing streak of 2003, which was four games for both clubs. Interestingly enough, their longest losing streaks this year were five games each. Of course, the Stros finally broke theirs this week...against the Cubs. And the Cubs still need to break theirs, but if they don't, the next team they'll get the chance to do so against...the Astros. Guest Crazy Dan Report post Posted May 30, 2004 Now that they are playing respectable ball again, how bout dem Giants. Man, I was really worried about this season. It did not look good for the Giants. But with the return of Schmidt, all of the sudden the Giants have won 8 in a row. And even more great is that the West is very weak this year, so they are back in the hunt again. Unfortunately for the Dodgers, their pitching staff is not as good as last years, and man talk about free falls, yikes. So I see this coming down to the Giants and the Padres in September. But, this is the West, so anything is possible. But for now I will take the 8 wins in a row, and be happy the Giants are back in the race. But before, they played really bad, so I really could not state the obvious, or praise them for sucking. Now, they are the hottest team in the League, so I am a happy boy, that is for sure, but it is only the end of May so there is still a lot of baseball left. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 The Giants have been impressive since their series in Chicago a couple of weeks back. Unlike the beginning of the season, not everything on the offensive end is being put soley on Bonds' shoulders. They're actually driving in the key runs at the right moments and while Bonds is in the thick of it, those around him are starting to pull their own weight. With Scmidt on the mound today and Colorado on the other end, I can see them making it nine straight.
Bored 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 If they were in any other division the Giants wouldn't have much of a shot. The N.L. West is just terrible and 85 wins might win that division.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 30, 2004 Which is a shame because the N.L Central will be a fucking DOG FIGHT with Chicago, Houston, Cincy, St. Louis and even the Pirates whom are looking good fighting it out...likely taking out the wild card spot to the second place team in the east(atlanta, florida or Philly)...because of how tough that divison is. The last time the reds were this good (99)...we got screwed despite having 96 wins...it'll happen again. (meaning a team with 10 less wins still makes the playoffs)
Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted May 30, 2004 9 Walks in 3 Innings today given up by Joe Valentine and Phil Norton comebined. Wow. Overall, 86 pitches thrown, only 37 strikes.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted May 30, 2004 The Yankees can't beat Victor Zambrano. He just appears to have their number.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 The Pirates should probably be blowing out the Cubbies at this point, since they've had back-to-back innings where they had multiple runners on with less than two outs and have only come up with one. And what's Craig Wilson's problem? I know the Cubs have been beaming the Bucs like crazy in this series, but you should probably try and move if a ball's coming at you. This idiot's shocked that he gets hit if he just stands there.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted May 30, 2004 Yankees respond with their customary "just won first place" game. A disgusting, embarassing shitfest of a game where no one even bothers to show up.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted May 30, 2004 Speaking of the Yankees just gaining first place, its quite humorous to stop by the ESPN boards when it happens. The Yankees fans all go over to the Red Sox board and tell them its over, there's no coming back, etc. Then the next day the Yankees proceed to lose first place back to the Red Sox. Its like the 3rd time its happened this season. What's really funny is the fact they refuse to acknowledge that a battered and beaten up Red Sox team is hanging with their All Star loaded roster. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2004 What the hell is up with these idiot umps? Ward gets hit on the leg by a Zambrano pitch (yeah, big surprise), but he clearly swings at it, but the ump awards him the base anyway. Barrett immediately asks for an appeal down to the third, but the jackass won't even allow that. What's that crap? If he hits the guy, fine, but if he swings at it, you have to at least let them make the appeal. Ridiculous. You know it's bad when the Pirates' announcers are completely on the Cubs' side.
