Guest Anglesault Report post Posted May 29, 2004 The Cubbies are hellbent on ruining my World Series. correct me if im wrong... it's chicago over Houston right? Or are you wanting Houston to go so that your precious store brought yankees can beat Roger and Andy at the grandest stage...to show them what they are missing when they decided that family was more important right? I want my Yankees to crush Cubbie dreams, but I'll glady take putting the traitors in their place.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2004 Hawkins performed poorly as the Twins' closer, but he has really taken his game to a new level in the last two years. He's not the same pitcher he was in 2001.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted May 29, 2004 Cubs could always trade for Urbina. He's really the only closer I think will be available...possibly Hasegawa/Guardado
sfaJack 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2004 Oh I say it's time for a change. With the money they're paying Hawkins, he can just shut his mouth and close out some games. The problem with that, of course, is that it opens up a hole in the 8th inning of games (then again..what's the point of bridging the gap till the ninth if you're just going to lose it then?). I suppose they have to hope that Mercker comes back strong and hope Remlinger doesn't get hurt again. But please Hendry, do SOMETHING. Borowski's run out of chances. EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2004 Cubs could always trade for Urbina. He's really the only closer I think will be available...possibly Hasegawa/Guardado Hasegawa's just as bad as Borowski. No need for a trade. Just install Hawkins as the closer, and move the bullpen guys up a notch.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2004 If they had to make a move, I'd say go for Urbina. It's not like the Tigers truly need him yet. I'd like to see Hawkins in the closer role, but Farnsworth has proven to be too inconsistent to be trusted that late in the game on a regular basis.
Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted May 29, 2004 Sigh. Why not Jimmy Anderson?!
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted May 29, 2004 The Rain Delay with no rain has hurt Pedro. He can't pitch in the cold and all it did was allow the temperature to drop. I would still really love to see a Pedro for Schilling trade
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted May 29, 2004 David Ortiz hits career homer #100 and its a Grand Slam to put the Red Sox on top by
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted May 29, 2004 In April of 01, created an efed character based off the boybands named Lance Carter. I first noticed the real Lance carter when he came back the next year and it scared me.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2004 Putting Hawkins at closer is a huge mistake since it takes the Cubs best bullpen guy in tight situations and has him only as a ninth inning guy. I say once Prior and Wood return they put Mitre or Rusch at closer to see what they can do. Borowski just seems to be dead arm right now. I have no clue what happened to him but it's sad. Oh and Anglesault, the Cubs fans really just want to get to the World Series, least the couple I've had a chance to talk with. Winning it would be nice and all, but just getting back is the goal right at this time. One step at a time.

Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted May 29, 2004 Anybody notice who's in first place in the NL West right now? With recent injuries to Eaton, and Peavy along with the one to Wells it most likely won't last. Still, good for them.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2004 Anybody notice who's in first place in the NL West right now? With recent injuries to Eaton, and Peavy along with the one to Wells it most likely won't last. Still, good for them. The Padres have some pitching depth, and the division absolutely sucks at this point. I think they can win it.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted May 29, 2004 Padres were my pre-season pick to win the NL West...still, 3/5 of their rotation is injured right now
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2004 I think we can officially announce the newest X Games sport: Surviving the Phillies walk off celebration. Perez got the ever loving shit kicked out of him. The odds have to be 50-50 that someone gets hurt during the year with one of these celebrations.
Mik 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2004 Still 1 game out though. D-Train was on tonight, although there's a high probability that in one of his next 3 games he gets shelled. He's the most inconsistent pitcher ever.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 29, 2004 Still 1 game out though. D-Train was on tonight, although there's a high probability that in one of his next 3 games he gets shelled. He's the most inconsistent pitcher ever. there's a guy named Danny Graves making that arguement.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2004 Maybe we should reconsider the Hawkins as the closer suggestion. Not cashing in big with the bases loaded and no one out in the 9th comes back to haunt the Cubs. I think I need to stop watching until we've got some of the regulars back. Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 29, 2004 I say bring back Mark Grace to be a closer...His 2 out stint in Arizona showed LOADS of potential...
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2004 Given Ramon Martinez's hitting, there's obviously been a mistake. He's really Ramon Martinez the pitcher, and its time for the Cubs to install him as their new closer.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2004 And Craig Wilson hits the walk-off homer to sweep the double header. The Cubs are just embarrassing to watch right now. No one expects them to break a whole lot of ground with all of the injuries, but they're rapidly falling apart, as they've now lost four in a row, all of which have come against teams in their division. Given their upcoming June schedule, they could be out of the race by July.
Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted May 29, 2004 It was noted in the recent Sporting News issue I got in my hands that Pirates officals tell interested clubs in Mackowiak is worth more to them than the players they likely would be offered in return... and it shows why. He's really something. Craig Wilson isn't too bad either.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2004 You know, if the Pirates weren't so quick to trade away any prospects not named Jason Kendall, they could have a good little ball club going there.

Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted May 29, 2004 For the Reds fans here (well everyone actually) When do you all think Giffrey will hit #500 I'ma guess around June 12th, vs. Cleveland.

Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 29, 2004 I noticed something... This board seems to have fans of only five teams New York Yankees Chicago Cubs Cincinnati Reds Boston Red Sox Florida Marlins(well...just ONE pretty vocal guy)... Any supporters here of other teams...I do find it appros that 4 of the five teams on the above lists are the most prestigous and well revered teams in Baseball lore.
